Thanks for the mature and thoughtful review. So many reviews use the riders personal points of reference... for example so many say the seat is too low, but for me at 5’ 8”, a lower seat is not a con.

Having just taken one for a test ride last week I can pretty much say that your review is basically how I felt when I came back to the dealership. The only thing that is stopping me from getting one at the moment is that, I am waiting to test ride the new Street Triple 765. Other than that, the Z900 is a great all rounder.

I owned a 2010 street triple 675 for 3 years and it is in my opinion better than my 2015 Z1000 in every way but HP and reliability. Reliability being the big one here. The Triumph bikes are chinese junk my friend. It left me stranded 3 times. Once for stater, once for shift fork, and once for an engine mount bolt snapping in half and I wasn't balsy enough to ride it like that. It only had 6,700 miles on it when I sold it and the ECU would not retain flash settings and the oil pan gasket also had to be replaced at 3000 miles. Incredible ride, but I wouldn't trust one to take me much farther than the local ice cream shop and back. So I found the Z1000 to fill the gap and it does it just fine. I think for 20lbs the Z1 is a better bike than the Z9. Just my opinion though.

Yes ,a strange decision by Kawasaki USA. For this year there is an upgraded Z1000 R. It features improved suspension [Ohlins at the back], Brembo front brakes, revised ECU and a different seat.

This is also the deal with cars. I agree about the babysitting comment. Really sucks for enthusiasts sometimes. As far as the models we do get lacking power, they might lack a little power until flashed and tuned. Then all is good :)

It's not that the regulatory commissions in the USA actually give a rip about the consumer; they are after our money and a good way to do that is create a "global climate issue" which carries enough truth to silence dispute, but is enough phony baloney to push the agenda forward, ever more restrictive and expensive. One side effect of this is restricting ECU on bikes, cars, trucks, etc. to please their artificially set goal-post at the expense of the actual performance capability. Thanks to the aftermarket under the never-enforced "off-road only" labels, we can pay 1500 dollars to fit an exhaust, intake, and ECU flash to give what the machine is designed to give.

I'm about to get a new 2017 z900 and the little z in the tail lights is cool. My 2002 WS6 Trans Am actually has something similar. If you hit the brakes the lights it will project the Pontiac arrow head on the ground. Most people who have the 01-02 T/A dont realize that it does it. It's not crystal clear but you can see it really well on the right type of ground. My daily driven T/A is actually just as fast as the z900. My T/A runs a 10.8@127 and the z900 from what I've seen runs a 10.8@ 125mph. I'm getting solid black with no ABS. I haven't gotten to drive it yet but it feels perfect to sit on at 5'11 with a 32" inseam. I hope everything works out and I can get it atleast before the weekend

Didnt think i'd like this bike, but i test rode one and i test rode the fz09, i liked the z900 a little better. smoother clutch and throttle compared to the fz09, plus you sit in the bike and not on it, which feels nice. Though i had a lot of fun on the fz09, i just went with z900...If i was banking, i'd get both of them.

You have to wonder why Suzuki is driving themselves out of business. They made great changes to the GSX-S750 but they didn't reduce the weight, which was a problem with the GSR 750. Now they aren't even releasing the new GSX-S750 to the market and all the competitors already have new models out there for people to buy. You snooze you lose.
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 7 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the new GSX-S750 (and abs-Z model) are 2018 models, probably coming in later in 2017. Also they are 750cc which really doesn't sit in quite the same range as an 847 or 948. Is weight Suzuki's problem? Their GSX-S1000 although not included in some shootouts is punching way above it's weight. For 2017 Suzuki has sorted some of the throttle feel issues out in the ECU and this bike is putting down a good 140 at the wheel, factory. Doesn't weigh more than 460 while doing it. So if 750 is all a rider wants and needs, there would be absolutely nothing wrong with the GSX-S750. Want a triple designed for racetracks (and ridiculous price)? New 765 from Triumph. If 850-950 is the sort of power someone needs or wants, there's FZ-09 or Z900. If that simply isn't enough, then what supernaked with 460 pounds and 140 rwhp from factory do you know costing under 11 grand other than Suzuki? And getting around 42 mpg? Be fair. Point is, in isolation there is nothing at all wrong with any of these 750 to 1000cc naked bikes. There's a good selection and they would all carry more potential than 95% of the owners ever exploit. Just buy and ride. All the brand-dissing so-called competition is souring motorcycling. They are all good.
@Xerdoz
@Xerdoz 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying the GSX-S750 is a bad bike. I like Suzukis. My previous bike a few years ago was a GSF 650 SA (Bandit) and it was ok for what it is. I test rode the GSR 750, which was sold in the US as GSX-S750 and it felt much better than the Bandit. There is nothing wrong with a 750. There should be plenty of power. In some countries the insurance is based (atleast somewhat) on the engine size so if you go over 750 you might be paying 20-25% more on your insurance right away. I'm just saying Suzuki could've made the new GSX-S750 better and it wouldn't have cost that much more. Reduce the weight just by a few kilos (so they could've said it's lighter than the GSR 750 it replaces) Now it weighs pretty much exactly the same than the previous bike. Increase the rev limiter by 250 rpms. (With the shorter gearing you're going to run out of the gears a bit faster so it would've given you some extra rpms to play with if you wanna go that high) LED indicators Adjustable clutch lever. Rebound damping settings. Those on top of the changes they made and it would've been that little bit more refined and more sorted.

The new GSX-S750 in 2018 is a lot better, regardless of weight change or not. Read the specs on the changes. Watch the video reviews from overseas.
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 7 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you said about weight. Stability at speed is pretty nice, especially if traveling distances. Takes less concentration to keep a straight line. Yet there are big, heavy touring bikes that get blown around in side winds because their fairings are like a sail, where small lightweight bikes aren't affected as much. It's all a balance and has a lot of factors involved. People will poo-poo something like the 1250 Bandit, but do it justice with some tuning and it's laying down 80 ftlb torque at under 3000 rpm and goes above 90 ft lbs. It's accelerating before the clutch heats up on the small revvy sportbikes.
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 7 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. But Suzuki has been the only company that's kept with a modern 750cc i-4 when everyone else abandoned it. Their current GSX-S1000 may be the last to enter the scene, but it's a GOOD one and very affordable power, usually left out of the shootouts because of a small deficit of electronic complications? It's not lacking refinement or horsepower or weight savings. I don't get it. Suzuki is not a giant corporation like Yamaha, Honda, or Kawasaki. They don't have heavy equipment, trains, ships, turbines, pianos, drums, guitars, or mixer boards to spread out the profits. They were affected by one of the worse tsunamis in history, if people would remember this (videos all over KZbin on it). Give them a break. It's not like they aren't resourceful, they put a motorcycle company together out of basically nothing when the loom industry took a blow due to a cotton market plummet many years ago. I'd say they are weathering the storms of industry as good as, if not better than a lot of American start-ups and buyouts, while remaining #2 on reliability.

How many can actually explain why radials are supposed to be better than axials?
@TerribleTimes
@TerribleTimes 7 жыл бұрын
Radials don't deflect like traditionally mounted calipers, they also have a true set of pistons, no floating caliper with an anvil. Radials can also fit larger calipers and rotors.....
@mprziv
@mprziv 7 жыл бұрын
Radial mounted calipers provide less deflection and allows for larger rotors in comparison to traditional axially mounted calipers.

well, put it this way, I bought a pair of second hand M50 Brembo monoblocks to replace the original Brembo two piece radial calipers on my Monster.....also put new EBC aluminum carrier rotors on her and new EBC Double H Sintered pads... feels completely different now, in a good way. Did I need to ... probably not, do I prefer the way it is now, most defiantly.

@bigbaux4721
@bigbaux4721 5 жыл бұрын
skipp crider I had a 400 naked and moved up to a liter naked. In terms of wind, there’s not much difference. The real difference lies in the ability to lope along at low revs rather than having to rev the piss out of a little motor at highway speed. The noise and vibrations are surprisingly fatiguing and having the extra power just makes long distances overall more pleasant imo.

your making my point, it is unfair to compare a touring cruiser to a naked bike......cause the naked bike seats SUCK. im looking for something like a Katana or the zxr 1200, but no one seems to make anything like that any more

Nah, I bought a Z800 and I love it. I also bought it for 6k brand new. On the road it is still very quick indeed. I also think the Z800 is better looking than this. The performance and lightness of this is sweet but not enough for me to swap. Yet...

Did you happen to notice the MPG?
@percussion44
@percussion44 7 жыл бұрын
I am averaging 5.2l/100km on mine. That's 45 mpg (us gallon) and that's with enthusiastic disregard for posted hwy limits. I am in BC, little to no city driving. It's all winding mountain roads, it seems every direction is uphill. The bike has 900km on it and is just coming up for its first dealer inspection at 1000km. I dumped and replaced the factory oil at 200 km and replaced with Castrol 10w40 bike oil. The Castrol still looks nice and golden at 900 km. The factory looked grungy at 200. I will be using a Bosch 3323 premium filter and Honda synthetic 10w40 for the service.

P44...I bought one already. So your mileage works out to what mine is. It turns out I don't care, this is such a great bike. I changed my oil at 70 miles after a Motoman style break-in. Yes, the oil was grungy and poured out like water. I was glad to get the stuff out of there. I changed it again at 370 miles and it looked normal. Now I'm coming up on a thousand miles. I'll do it once more then resume normal change intervals of around 2500-3000 miles I freaking love this bike.. Ride well.

biggest issue i have the so called naked bikes, is zero room for a passenger, Granted i ride a big touring Cruiser, but i'm looking for a fun bike as a 2nd bike, but would like to once in a while take the wife with, and NONE of the Sport and naked bikes seem to have any space for a passenger

fz 09 is much worst than this bike: less cc, less cylinder, higher seat height, no slipper & assisted clutch, less aggressive looking,... and it cost 1000$ more for just the traction control. that amount of money could let me buy a new exhaust and quickshifter for the z900
