Hamilton had bad luck last year, Vettel.....well he hasn't really this year until now. He has performed incredibly well, though has been fortunate to have a car that by F1 standards is fairly easy to setup. That Mercedes must be really difficult to setup, never seen such a wide variety of performance over a race weekend.

If Vettel gets up to 5th tomorrow, which is a perfectly reasonable suggestion, and Hamilton wins, the gap will grow to 43 points. However, Hamilton had a lead of 18 points over Raikkonen with two rounds to go in 2007, when Kimi won by 1 point. 18 points under the old points system is 43 under the new system; Vettel has 5 races (after tomorrow), Kimi had 2. Its still possible, but unlikely

Believe it or not, each city that hosts a race has to pay to host. Malaysia, unlike most of the other races, is actually managed by the government - as opposed to being private operations (e.g. Silverstone). The Malaysia GP is the cheapest race on the calendar because the government wants to keep the cost low to encourage people to attend. By contrast, you look at Silverstone or Abu Dhabi which are ridiculousy expensive because the operators need to recoup their fee of however many millions it is and make a profit. The F1 contract has a clause written in that automatically puts the annual fee up by a percentage each year. Malaysia said it's just too expensive to justify spending public money on it now. The cost of hosting is outweighing any returns from attendance and "tourism benefits". This is the same thing that the Silverstone operators were/are fighting with the FiA about and why they were threatening to no longer host the British GP. That's why people have been pushing for a London street race - it could then be subsidized by the government.
