People with OCD are very much aware that their obsessions and compulsions are nonsensical. But can’t stop it from controlling them. I have ocd. My compulsion isn’t cleaning though. I check things over and over because I can’t stop thinking that I left the stove or straightener on and I’ll burn down the house if I don’t check over and over. Or that the door isn’t locked and I have to make sure or I’ll be terrified that someone might break in. And if I’m in the car I can’t stop thinking that my toddler isn’t buckled. If my older kids are with us and in the back seat with him I ask them repeatedly to check that he’s strapped in all the way. I take medication and have a councilor and I’m making progress towards being able to not obsess over things as much. Most people don’t really know what ocd really is. It’s kind of annoying when people say they’re “so ocd” because they like things clean or straight. I just have to ignore it because i see it all the time. It’s one thing to like cleanliness and a whole other thing to be constantly bombarded with irrational thoughts and fears to the point that we develop compulsions just so we can try to stop the thoughts for even just a little while.

h_a ann I feel your pain. I’m like that in the way of cleaning. I’m pretty damn close to Hayley’s level of OCD, but I just don’t have enough time in my day to clean as much as she does, so I clean at least weekly, mostly more than that. It sucks but I can’t do it any other way...

Doesn’t matter when your house is that nasty. And the haggis he made for them? Look up what that is. It’s nasty! And I bet you it wasn’t fresh. And then when she pulled a long hair out of it, he laughed and said “There’s more where that came from”. He thought it was amusing how disgusted they were!
@T97Frida3 жыл бұрын
@@loveshell6945 He didn’t think it was amusing, he tried to hide how ashamed he felt. This old man lived in that lonely neglected state for so long he didn’t see the filth anymore. To him it has become normality, cause nobody looked after him, what us actually very sad. It was evident how hard he tried to make them feel comfortable. He was attentive and showed good manners. It broke my heart when he offered her a bathrobe to “keep warm” and then it was so dirty, cause he gave her the best he had. This man has lost the ability to take care of such things, you act like he lived like this by purpose. He didn’t. The two probably were his first guests in decades. A very kind guy, he simply needed support and guidance in how to gain control over the mess he lived in. It’s this kind of judgment who drives old people into isolation.
@mhkim14193 жыл бұрын
@@T97Frida yeah... I do think this is the case. Some sort of a wretched coping mechanism. Tbh, if I, for whatever reason, allowed my environment to reach that sort of state; living in that dump with nobody to blame but myself, I'm positive that I would have to develop some weird coping mechanism for sanity's sake. Poor thing... Indeed some responsibility on his side for making his own habitat deteriorate to that extent, but I believe every person can change with the right sort of assistance. Guess he never had it. Personally, I was famously unorganized and didn't really try to fix it. Got lucky though. Had a semi OCD friend from uni and when I moved she suggested to help me out evaluating what to keep and what to bin (before I even asked). Honestly, I was at a stage where I didn't even know where to start because I lived there for over a decade so eventually loads of stuff. She wasn't nice and soft like Hayley but gave help when needed. After the move, she taught me how to organise my kitchen(basically did it for me whilst giving a full lecture), shared her routine, did check-ups on how I was keeping up. learnt a lot. A lot of harsh words but could feel that she cared for me, so trying to keep up with the lifestyle. Now I'm considered quite tidy. Some change by themselves(admirable) and some needs help but not everyone is lucky enough to meet help when needed. Hayley's attitude I think was exacted what Josh needed. I personally would have never been able to do that defo would've snapped at some point. Admirable compaction and sincerity.

So glad this turned out with a happy ending! The old man is so happy now, it made me smile to see him smile! That Hayley is just wonderful, any way you look at it. Despite her OCD, she is never rude or insulting to any of the people she goes to help, she's never dramatic about her issues like so many are, and she so practical about them and does what she can go overcome them. I think, out of all the cleaners on this program, she is the best and so well suited to help the people at the opposite end of the cleaning spectrum from her! Another success for Hayley!

It's sad how he kept arguing with them about how he needed to keep things. I think when someone is that resistant to getting rid of anything, it shows there's an underlying mental issue going on. Just making the person get rid of things is only a temporary solution. They most likely will just start hoarding things again once the cleaners leave. This guy needs someone to work with him regularly.

I think the room that was offered to them is the most decent room so far among the other episodes I've watched.

36:32 when Dan went to bed with the hazmat suit on and the hood tied on had me cracking up. I wish he could have stayed the night though.

Anybody else gets anxiety when you see them handle all those gross, dusty, & dirty stuff with their bare hands & women with long hair just leaving their hair down while trudging around the pigsty of a home?? like, always wear gloves & keep your hair out of the way - maybe in a nice bun so you don't cobwebs & dust in 'em. 😩
@missmarysunshine26865 жыл бұрын
I’ve grown up cleaning without gloves, but this would be an instance where I would use gloves that is absolutely disgusting.

no. i don't have OCD
@angel-uu6sj5 жыл бұрын
I personally suffer from mild form of OCD and I shower anywhere from 2-5 times per day so I dont think it is such a big deal. I think its part of the cleaning process sometimes and if you are used to cleaning 10 hours a day you dont want to have it in a neat bun all day, everyday

@TheMoonflwr6716 жыл бұрын
Well, bleach may solve a compulsive cleaner's woes, but it doesn't really do anything. That's why its called OCD/compulsive. Its an illness.

What I love about Hayley is the respect she shows for people no matter their situation. She is the least judgmental compared to some other cleaners on here.

Laura Oliver, I know right?! Like they are so scared of germs and all that. Makes no sense that they put their suitcases on their beds. I'm not OCD but even I keep my suitcases on the floor when I pack!

Lee Seemone I thought that was gross too! Shoes are dirty on the soles, wither they are worn inside or outside! He packed his too, with his clothes! I was screaming “pack them in a separate bag”!

Lee Seemone But why? I do have OCD too but when everything in my house is nice and clean I do not have a problem with putting something on my bed thats also nice and clean. Also not all people mit OCD are also germophobes :)

That's funny that the mice were not being discreet where they pooped. 14:12 I wonder if there is a larger cleaning crew that they do not show on camera because I never understand how just one or two people can really clean a large home that quickly.
