Wow! I was stunned by Ma Long's serving tactics. He did more long serves in the first three games and it worked. Apparently he thought that Fan's backhand flick is stronger and more powerful than his backhand loop. Then in the next two games, he served as usual , wondering if he could beat Fan without this tactic. Wow! What a play! both mental and physical!

*Ma long used a lot of tactics in this game, which comes from his years after years experience as world top player. He has a greater variety of ways to serve and return than Fan. Ma long gave long serves to Fan's backhand corner; long serves to the backhand edge of the table (and get ready to attach when Fan returns by backhand loop); pretend to backhand flick but then push to return Fan's serve; Backhand flick toward right into the body of Fan...you name it. On the other hand, Fan has greater speed and power, but he just played a straight game without any tactics to deceive and disrupt Ma Long...well, like said earlier, that wouldn't come easily from practice, but only years of experience and the TT IQ...*

You're absolutely right. There was not much variation in Fan's games. His techniques are formidable and showed signs of catching up with Malong's. But he lacks experience and was a little too straightforward in his tactics.

In the 6th game, FZD totally got trapped in ML's setup play... almost every serve from ML was a setup and ML was able to score all of them...

It seems like Ma Long got even better, how is that even possible... Also seems like Ma Long didn't even have to fight for the first few sets and when he was Cho'ing in the last one, he was absolutely dominating. And this Cho'ing from both players is perfect imo. Pushing themselves, giving the viewers not a completely unenthusiastic game and not annoying like some of the recent occurings. +1 for both players

Fan could beat him if he could adjust his tactics earlier in the match. He's frequently at huge disadvantage, having to come back from 3-0 down in most of their encounters. Once Fan adjusted in the fifth and sixth games, Ma looked kind of helpless, but then the Dragon made a change to close the match. The 20-year old needs to learn that it isn't good enough to only make the opponent adjust to him.

I don't think giving is the correct word. I heard sometime table tennis players delibrately lose one game to loosen up the tension and win the game after that more easily. Clearly Fan did give Malong some hard time. But this time Ma Long was calmer and regained his upperhand in the last game.

I think Fan's biggest problem is the speed of the game. He always trys to play real fast, he is not calm. On the other hand, Ma long tplays hard but not fast. he prepare the point to finish it in one hit, Fan prefer to play long rallies, and i think now, with the new ball, the objective is to play hard, not fast.

It's just the person who edited the match in this instance. I'm not biased as played international table tennis myself. The ball toss travels to quickly and the momentum of the players is to small fir the speed in which they are changing direction. Just look at other ma long vids on this channel and you will see a normal pace game. You tubers like ttlondon 2012 quite often speed up the matches and I have no idea why.

Let me clarify something here: after the Olympics game, ZJK, ML, FZD, XX are all gaining some crazy fangirls. Most of them know little about table tennis but they adore their favorite players like some Korean pop stars. Consequently, they bring all sort of kpop drama into the table tennis game, such as fans fighting fans, stalking their idols all around the world, etc.. I have mixed feelings about this: It is great to see more people enjoying this game, but these fan girls need to educate themselves about the game and ethics..

ITTF, do you know that the video angle is really annoying? For those who dont know how to play table tennis, it is probably a good angle to watch the match, however as we medium level in table tennis, the angle sucks. Why sucks? because from the first serve, i can't see how short is the the ball and the length of the first bounce to the second bounce compared to the net. After that, i can't see how the minimal movement of the players right after he served, did he move further to the table after the fast forward serve? did he move closer to the table after the short back spin serve? You may wonder why i care about those details, because i want to learn from those players. Those minimal movements help a lot. Please consider a different angle, this is table tennis, i dont want to watch it like tennis or badminton
