I sold my F250 and bought a Ram TRX. I’m sure you don’t have any use for a TRX, but it’s a blast to drive. I do miss the big F250 sometimes though.

I read a comment on one of your previous videos about how the power stroke completely out did the Cummins on a TFL truck video pulling up Ike gauntlet. I had to laugh because I watched the same video and it was less than a minutes difference on an 8 mile long pass, wich really isn't much. But as anyone that does a lot of hauling knows it's the coming down of those mountain passes that really matters when heavy and the RAM did much better than the Ford in that department. Personally I like both trucks, if I just wanted a truck for mostly daily driving or using for work around my area I'd probably take the Ford for the fun factor of that extra acceleration. But if I was going to be constantly towing, especially longer distances with big hills I'd definitely take the ram. That extra control when descending a steep grade is by far the most important part of hauling heavy.

I have a 2017 Ram 3500 single rear wheel with the high output/Aisin combo and I know what you mean on the cruise control with exhaust brake. Usually I see it go 4 to 5 MPH over before it kicks in, but I find it works better with cruise using the Auto Exhaust Brake. Just a food for thought. Keep up the good work 🤘

I love the video. I have a 21 3500 with the HO Cummins/Aisin combo. I have said it’s like owning a cross between a Clydesdale & a thoroughbred. The thing will pull a house but once it’s up & running & that turbo spools up the thoroughbred comes out. I get a kick out of the guys complaining about the lag time with the transmission & complaining about it lack of acceleration off the line. It’s not a drag racer, it’s a truck and a damn good one. I have found if you let it do what it was built to do it performs great. If you try to make it something it is not you will be disappointed. If you want to drag race buy the HEMI! The big three brands all have great trucks, but IMO this is the best truck on the highway

Very interesting that the cruise doesn't allow a downshift...it speeds up...great truck when you need to get in and out of right places...you make hauling a heavy load..look easy... thanks for the info ..

The ram exhaust brake in Auto mode and transmission on tow/haul mode will try to keep the truck at the speed when the cruise control is engaged.

Out of all the trucks I have for some reason I like towing with a Cummins/asin more…. Honestly can’t even really describe why. I’m also a ford guy lol

It might be the programming parameters are not set right. Usually the jake comes on between 4 and 5 km over the set cruise speed. I would look into that....not sure if yours may be able to be reprogrammed so it works that way. Beach ! I used to hang around crytal crescent beach , before they made it into a provincial park..lol. There was no one there, not even a road, just a trail. Those were the days!!!

Try the exhaust brake in auto mode instead of full. I think it will help the downhill situation with cruise on.

Try tapping down mph/kph on the steering wheel controls for the crusie like 3-4 times without using footbrake, it should downshift and kick on exhaust brake

That’s weird. I have HO aisin and towing my fifth wheel I can set it with a speed ceiling with the automatic exhaust break, and a speed floor with the cruise. I can jump on the highway and the truck will keep it between 63 and 65 with combination of automatic exhaust break and cruise control. With the automatic exhaust brake, it works like cruise in reverse, and it sets your speed limit based on where you tap the brakes.

Maybe it's because both of my Dodges are older and not diesel, but they always downshifted when needed with the cruise control on. I wonder if that's something that they could change in the computer so it would downshift ? When it starts going faster than you want downhill, could you manually downshifted without hitting the brakes ?

Dont think you have ever liked the 450 from day one becuase its a dually. Get your f350 CCLB lariat, plati, KR, you'll be happy. This way you can still haul heavy occasionally. .

I do believe when in cruise put auto exhaust break it will slow you down more an hold ur speed. We have 3 5500 rams at work a 17,18, 20. With over 340***+ km on all except the 20. An we have a old 7.3L F550 an the guys compare it to the rams an say the ford have no power 🤣 well duuuh back in 2000 they didn't make a lot a power🤣.

All 6 cylinder diesels from the dawn of time loaf along you need gearing to get road speed out of them. The new 6.7 in current model year trucks is pushing the limits of a 408 Cubic inch engine pushing 1000ftlbs that's not conducive to longevity. The C11 in your Sterling is 677 Cubic inches its putting out 1000-1200ftlbs. I'm not saying the 6.7 Power Stroke is any better its in the same boat small displacement putting out power numbers that shouldn't be. For what you are doing travelling all over the province I'd be looking at a 5500 Ram with its stock hp numbers. Ford Ram and Chev are playing the numbers game people get all gaga by horsepower torque you don't need 1000ftlbs in a pickup truck.

If ford upgrades hp and torque , so does Ram. I would keep the 17 and delete it. Also I would definitely sell the 450 before the expensive repairs come. Lol

Hopefully Ram also upgrades to the true fifth gen cab and a new transmission. But the way things have been going the last couple years, the odds of that happening are about the same as Paul McCartney sporting some 'let's go Brandon' gear.
