9.2 mpg is impressive for that configuration. Take in consideration the size of the tires , gear ratio and curb weight of that 2500 and towing 9000 lbs , that's pretty dam good for a 6.4 gas.

larry Spiller :Ive seen comparable QUALITY 20' car/equipment hauler trailers (which that one is a high quality 8" channel trailer from PJ trailers) that weigh 3300-3500lbs. ( www.pjtrailers.com/trailers/c8-8-inch-channel-equipment ) ( www.bigtextrailerworld.com/pdfs/10DF.pdf ) for instance. Plus that trailer has a tool box 50lbs plus the gear she has in the tool box another 50-100lbs. So we're up to 3450-3650 lbs. Then lets look at the Rubicon. A Rubicon weighs in at a staggering 4340lbs dry weight. Then lets look at all the goodies/recovery gear that Barlow has added to and carries in her Jeep. Five bigger=heavier tires, heavier bumpers, a winch and who knows what else is on or in that Jeep. So thats a good extra 40-50 lbs worth of tires 250 extra lbs of winch and bumpers. Lets assume Miss Barlow is a smart off-roader :) shes not hauling her Jeep into the trails without a full tank-o-gas, right? So almost 19 gallons of fuel would weigh in at around 190 lbs....another 30-40 lbs of fluids in various places in the drivetrain. Well. Would ya look at that. We're already up to 8200-8500 lbs. Obviously Im missing some stuff that we cant see but 9000 lbs is not out of the realm of possibility.

Sorry Larry, I stand corrected, thats a 5" channel with an 8" top plate on the frame....not an 8" channel frame. Looking at around 2500-ish lbs for the trailer. We have to be missing something about this setup because there's more to it than what we are assuming. I started over and I did a new post breaking it down some.

I'm skeptical of that weight claim. A diesel F-250/350 4x4 is around 7,000 pounds and most car trailers are around 2,000 pounds. I'm having a hard time believing that Jeep weighs as much as a diesel F-350 4x4. As one who pulls car trailers relatively often, I'm guessing total weight is closer to 7,000 pounds.

There must be a big difference in towing with the 3.73 and 4.10's using the 6.4L. I had the 6.4L with 3.73's and it was a joke towing anything over 8k. Would it do it... Sure, if you like the engine screaming in 3rd when you hit a hill. But then I don't care for the 3.42's in my Cummins now either. I would rather have the 3.73 with the Cummins and 4.10 or even 4.56 in the Hemi.

Old comment but I have to. The payload numbers are silly. I am looking at one of these for a daily buy to tow a camper too. It's a gamble getting caught by DOT but if you bagged the back of one of these trucks it would tow like any other 3/4 ton but ride without a trailer like just about any other half ton. Common sense needs to be deployed here, but I'm leaning this way over buying a gasser half ton.

André, are you lying to me? the Wrangler unlimited in the back weights about 4075 pounds and the towing trailer has wood boards. I think the trailer does not weight more than 2k. Unless Nathan drove to Mexico to eat tacos, I don't see how that truck is pulling 9k pounds.

Al Fu I don't know what trailer it is but wood has nothing to do with it. It could be a 9990lb GVWR trailer and likely comes in around 2600lbs with 5000lb axles if it's steel and about 8x20. Having said that, it's still probably only a 7-8k load overall since Jeeps aren't usually heavy.

At least for the Cummins... They say the engine is "broken-in" at the factory. My dealer recommended putting on 500 miles, but that was more for the rear end to get broken in a little. I would think gas engines you would want to wait until the first oil change.

i'm no expert, but i personally would never tow anything before 3-5000 miles minimum. not just for the engine, but the trans and rear end as well. this may not be necessary, but it never hurts playing it safe

How did the wrangler weigh? How much did the trailer weigh? Google tells me that a jeep can weigh up to 4900 lbs. Google also tells me a trailer that size weighs up to 2080 lbs. If you do the math you come up with 6980 lbs... Not 9000 lbs... ???

Anybody who needs a 6.4L in a 1500 should just buy a 2500 with it already in there. The 1500 frame can barely handle its weight limit of 10,000 pounds towing and the 1500ib payload fills up fast so a bigger engine would not help. For about $5000 you can put an aftermarket supercharger on the 5.7 if speed is more important than towing.

Curb weight of the Tundra 5100lb vs Dodge with it's heavier 7,000lbs curb weight, equal towing and smaller fuel capacity. With the Tundra having a 40 Gallon fuel capacity and every bell and whistle you can want on a working trucking including reliability and quality receiving awards for it's reliability, ride comfort and performance. The Tundra also outperformed the Dodge in acceleration and crawl features, dispite being a few horse power short when compared to dodge. How do you do it with payload in this? I presume you have a 900lbs tongue weight on the trailer and the combined weight of you three and luggage must be more than 400lbs. that added up must be more than 1300lbs.

Because the payload numbers are really conservative by the manufacture for legal reasons. It's still a 3/4 ton frame truck and ain't gonna disintegrate if it goes over payload sticker numbers. Just won't stop as good

@@sh0cktim3 but that's just not good enough. If I have an accident with overload, the insurance won't cover anything. If I'm pulled over by the road autoricies, I'll get a driving ban. It is simply not legal for me to load the vehicle more than what it is rated for, and the consequences for doing so is severe. (I'm not American) These pitiful payload ratings makes the vehicle unusable as a pickup. I'd be better of driving a Peugeot Partner or whatever. I do not see the point of having such a big pickup where you cannot even fill the bed up before hitting your payload limit. My friends boss had 20 55lbs bags of concrete mix in the bed of his RAM 1500 and was way over the cars payload rating. He was driving illegally. I don't care wether or not the car actually can handle it, all I care about is the legality of it. I drive a pickup that is smaller than a Tacoma, and have a payload rating of more than 2200lbs. I can therefore with confidence fill my bed up with pretty much what ever I want, and still be within legal limits. That is what I care about.

@@Torvikholm sounds like you don't need this truck then. I have a Power Wagon and main reason I bought is for recreational use and it's off-road capabilities. It's a monster off road. If you don't get off the concrete payment often this is the wrong truck to buy for sure. I dont tow anything. And the payload is more than enough for my family and trips to to the lumber yard. They're so many different configurations of trucks out there to to fit the individual use and needs. RAM has 6.4 hemi 2500 with payload over 3,000 and towing over 14,000. It will ride like a mustang going over trains tracks off road though. But I think we should just be happy to have options. I'm glad they make this one.

Both to buy and to run, considering its fuel consumption. The payload rating for many of the American pickups are a pet peeve for me. I do see payload rating isn't as important for everybody. I'm sure you are very satisfied with you car, and it suits you just fine. I just struggle to understand the manufacturers logic, considering the problems pointed out in my previous pots. I am very happy with my Hilux. That is a car that is far better set up for my use than the Power Wagon.

The very fact that FCA wants me to believe that trailer with the jeep weighs more than 7300 lbs is reason enough for me to not buy a FCA product. The 6 bolt axles on the trailer are likely rated for around 4000-4200 lbs each so 9000 lbs total would be over the GVRW of the trailer. Come'on MAN!

Anyone else wish Dodge would spend the money they do on press day on the fit and finish?

It's a 3/4 ton why is it 1,300 lbs of payload? That's pathetic. You explained why but that's rediculous. That's 1/4 ton numbers!

My F150 with FX4 off road package is rated to tow 9,100 lbs. 9,000 lbs for that trailer and jeep, really??

speterbilt, true that. They each have their pros and cons. All I'd need to do though is get a suspension lift. It already has rear lockers and skid plates.
