My dad died 5 days ago, and he was a HUGE Vanguard fan. Before he died, and was unconscious, I’d hold my phone and play this and I know I saw him smile..

My father played in the Santa Clara Vanguard he was in the B-core for 5 years and the A-core for 3 and he was lead trumpet for the A-core years and i remember going to a reunion and i looked at my dad when this was playing and he had tears in his eyes, now i can't blame him, i had some in my eyes too. I hope that one day i will join SCV and play this for my dad one day. SCV FOR LIFE

I’d just like to let anyone that cares know that I was walking with my seat partner on the corner of Lucas Oil that you can see while this was happening. I heard the beginning of it and knew what was going on so I looked around for the corps. It sounded clear as day so I thought they had to be close, but couldn’t find them...but come the first chord at 1:21 I just stopped where I was at to listen. My heart was beating so fast in those moments and I remember my eyes being closed trying to fight back tears, but right at the release at 1:47, they came pouring out and I’ve never held someone as hard as I did my seat partner from that moment until well after this song was over. SCV17, thank y’all so much. 😭 ❤️

I was impressed because this is a song they have played for 50 years at the end of their performance. The Anaheim Kingsmen had this same tradition One Hand One Heart It was something that members will always remember and be apart of them I remember a friend who marched in both corps once said that it was a life's experience to march in both corps with such rich history and pride Stanley (Randy) Knob.

Damn, this is gonna date me!!! But I remember playing this as the exit, then going right into the bottle dance! I played 1970-1974 soprano....loved watching the reaction of Gail Royer, Fred Sanford, & Pete Emmons on the side. Also, once we exited the field, getting a thumbs up from drum major Tim Moxley.

Love me some Clowns! This is my favorite recording of it. To me, it always feels more personal when it's played in the lot, behind the scenes and without spotlight. (Perhaps the crescendo just feels extra raw and bittersweet when it's swirling with diesel. 🤣 ) "...well maybe next year..." Sublime. They didn't know it at the time but Babylon was right around the corner. (SCV 90, 91) ❤💚

@sharibrown45617 жыл бұрын
They used part of it at the very end of the closer. If you know the words, I believe it is "Isn't It Rich", the first few cords after the pause, the key change, the big push.... I did not notice at the beginning of the season. A few weeks in I'd watch video and it would be like when you have a word on the tip of your tongue but can't quite get it out... Then i watched them play Clowns... and it FINALLY clicked in... That is my favorite part of the entire season. Who ever thought of that needs an award!!! So nostalgic and moving!!! Thank you SCV!!!
@KlldbyCuriosity7 жыл бұрын
Shari Brown Yeah, they added that snippet mid season right after South Western. I meant using this entire piece for the ballad btw

Lucky Stiff I'd rather have my show be remembered than win. BD 2017 is going to be forgotten fairly soon because it's purely a product of this era designed solely to win. I think SCV's show this year will go down in DCI history along the lines of other shows that didn't win the championship but were ultimately more remarkable over time than the winners that year like Star 1993, Vanguard 1998, Phantom 2003.
@luckystiff56957 жыл бұрын
Draco491Central Honestly, I totally agree with you, there... and I'll add a few more into that list: Cadets 2007, Crown 2012, Bluecoats 2014, Crown 2015. Gee, now that I think about it, most of those years, the Blue Devils won. Makes you really think...
