This 2017 Subaru WRX lays down on hard acceleration when the engine is hot. The ATS eSCAN ELITE, eSCOPE ELITE, and the iGA5 ELITE Gas Analyzer are used for the diagnosis.

Great diagnosis Bernie! My question is why couldn't you just use the downstream O2 to check the accuracy of the upstream AFR via scan data in 5 minutes? if it was lean enough to fall on its face, certainly the downstream would show a low voltage and prove that the AFR is lying?
@NewLevelAuto3 жыл бұрын
What if the Cat were no longer as efficient? 🤔
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics3 жыл бұрын
@@NewLevelAuto haha Keith with the critical thinking question! I would think that it doesn't matter if the cat is there at all... Downstream would still fairly quickly show a real rich or lean condition that is present for more than a few seconds 😁
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics3 жыл бұрын
@@OtisPlunk I wish Bernie would answer some of these questions 😅
@pinpointautomotiverepair15923 жыл бұрын
Hmmm....if the cat was no longer efficient and had low oxygen storage capacity theoretically it would make this one easier no? If the catalyst had good oxygen storage potential you would think that it could potentially keep the upstream high during the lean event making it hard to use the downstream to cross reference the AFR... a bad cat would potentially allow you to catch it....pardon me while my brain explodes.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics3 жыл бұрын
@@pinpointautomotiverepair1592 lol! If a gas analyzer in the tailpipe can pick it up, the downstream 02 would certainly do so as well. In fact it would be faster to react than any gas analyzer 😉

I’m watching this video again for reference and understanding of the ATS tooling. Almost have enough money to buy one🎉 During the test drive the camera man shows the boost gauge. This car is tuned😂 The waste gate tables are turned up, most likely some cheap Cobb off the shelf map. OEM tables will taper the boost off after peak, even at WOT, to prevent pre detonation. Over all this tune burned the AFR sensor I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner deleted the EGR too. Still a great video to reference❤

Bernie's explanation is the best so far. The scope & the Escan are amazing. Planning to buy the Escan soon.Thank Bernie for everything.

I'm retired but If I was starting out learning from ATS and using the tools would have made me a fantastic technician. Of course when I had a shop we were still changing points and condensers. Working on wiring was mostly to fix window switches or replacing harnesses on some vans that tended to melt wires due to excessive heat.

I did not think the wraf sensor can make that no power on this car. Now the heater circuit amp and the signal from that wraf sensor could make that much different. Wow, scope again, the gas analyzer also show CO for rich condition, and lamda number is very needed to compare the number from the reading from the engine ECU data. thanks Mr. Bernie It was so much to learn.

Good job Bernie. It is the laf or Raf and I could certainly see it. A heater matters that much. I found in college chemistry that temperature really is critically important in chemical reaction quickness. Keep doing other shops failures because those might also be me and your more correct process is what I need to do.

How timely , around 3 weeks ago I posted using this procedure on D.N. . It is nice to get validation from Bernie , I add one more p.i.d. to the data ,the rear O.2 sensor. Also ,I talked about this with a couple of techs it was a little challenging for them to understand how the fuel trims can be good with a bad sensor, the easiest explanation is that the e.c.m. has no way of knowing the sensor is out of range until it gets very bad and than it may flag some codes based on rationality tests. Thanks for the great video.

It's good you posted this info. 5 gas tool is great to have but the rear 02 pid would have snitched on the front a/f sensor under a heavy load

I have a 2017 wrx. I decided to put brighter led light bulbs in the ceiling and the lights blew out! so the stock bulbs were put back in and they constantly stay on! now what?
@hnd28933 жыл бұрын
Is your ceiling/room light switch in the On position? There are 3 positions, On, Off and Door. Are you referring to the middle ceiling light or the map light near the rear view mirror? The interior lights get their power from the BIU (body integrated unit) you can screw the BIU up real quick if you use bulbs not rated for the circuit. The interior lights are grounded through the switch to the body. Double check your bulb install.

We just bought a snap on 5 gas analyzer for the snap-on Zeus that we're using. But we're looking to upgrade snap-on doesn't have a 8 channel lab scope and the ATS does; is going to be the one we're looking at. We see the price of how much the e-scope Elite 8 is but how much is the five gas analyzer that you just had in this video?
