Not a single mention of standard safety features. Toyota has radar cruise control, forward collision prevention, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, auto on/off high beams. Many car enthusiasts like myself actually love analog gauges by the way.

I really don't know why all the car reviewers never mention anything about reliability?!!! Normal people should have to have some information about the cars reliability from people who owned similar cars in the past 5 years or so. No one really gives a damn now about 10 or 20 more hp or torque in these cars segment! Just look at a 2007 corolla and 2007 civic and ask both owners how much money both spent on spare parts and service and you will know the difference between a good car and a reliable car which can run for 200k miles without a single problem. Toyota is always a winner

Id buy the Civic too but they ignore all the standard advanced safety features on the Corolla which are very significant and unheard of in a compact car, and will appeal to a lot of people. Loyal Toyota owners have always been the most pragmatic car buyers. That drives their used prices past the point of reasonable. Toyota should be applauded for adding all of that standard. Others will need to follow.

Gregory Perkins Yes, the Touring costs a lot more... but here they're comparing models under $23K MSRP (with Destination & Handling)... so in this context, the Civic wins hands down. Moreover, even the top trim (XSE) of the Corolla is no match for the mid trim (EX) of the Civic.

Superior handling, hardly comparing handling is nonsense it changes its all up to the owner and what he wants to do and how much they are willing to spend. I have a Corolla and have spent significant money on performance upgrades and it would beat a new Honda Civic when it comes to sporty ride and handling. I know because I've spent significant time driving a new Civic.

my mother got a 2016 corolla but before had a 03 accord, and the honda was reliable, she bought it used and got rid of it at around 230,000 kilometers mostly because she hated the V6's gas economy, now this new 2016 Corolla does about 7.6-7.9/100km depending if i'm the one driving lol, but for the first 1-2 seconds of taking off from a stop it feels like you almost don't have an engine, but it corners well, and would make a good economy daily driver if you care nothing for enthusiast car stuff.

As an owner of both currently, I can tell you that the civic is more fun to drive stock. my rolla has the typical basic shit exh, cai, tein coilovers, some nice ass window visors/rain guard, a roof lip and vortex and just took of my GT Spoiler. Hands down my rolla got many positive looks and I enjoy driving it still. It's an S premium from 2014 I think it still holds up well looks wise to the 2017 even though I love the front of the 17s. now let's talk civic, I have a hatch ST, its fully loaded like my rolla the difference is obvi in the looks, power, and believe it when I tell you it does better on gas too, I prob get like 70 more miles in the civic. it has a full blown eco mode, along with regular and sport mode. now I personally think the hatch calls way more attention then the 4 door civic and it's seems to be pretty rare on the streets still. I'm being very honest when I say the corolla interior is ancient but it feels better made. the civic has a very plastic feel even though the dash in general is way nicer to look at the sport comes with the red background light which is a nice touch. also just to add a different flavor if you guys want to look at something nice, there are guys lowering the C-HR and if you ask me it looks like what the rolla hatch should have been, I'm not a fan of the im. both are great cars don't get it twisted, but if your budget allows you to go for the civic hatch sport or sport touring go for it. It's just more fun right out the box with out the need for the usual upgrades. If your looking for something that looks aggressive but isn't, the rolla is for you. hope who ever reads this finds it helpful. take care fam.

After the unintended acceleration issues with Toyotas, Toyota's selling point now has to be safety (i.e. why the safety features (autonomous emergency braking) are now standard), although the 2013-2016 Corolla had a marginal small offset crash rating, with likely lower leg injury in that crash test. When I purchase cars, safety is the #1 selling feature, even before reliability.

Too much digital stuff in cars these days. I don't mind the trip computer showing mpg, miles to empty etc but the rest of the gauges? I much prefer the simplicity of analog. Also the touchscreen infotainment systems are too much for someone who just wants to get from point a to point b without breaking down and breaking the bank.

I must say, that just for the sports tuned SE trim, the Corolla handles really well, especially around corners and on curved roads and ramps. The EX due to it's pliant suspension, simply cannot be driven at the same speed on the same curves, the differences become even more noticeable when you drive during a rain. Ah the windshield wipers are also better in Corolla. But unless you are driving both of these cars daily and on the same route, you wouldn't notice these small things. If it's my money, I will of course buy the Civic. btw, my wife bought a corolla! ;). I sure did make my feelings known about the designer of the car (but not her choice lol).

The civic I think was a wonderful vehicle, I don’t understand why reviewers gives a Corolla such a bad name. They didn’t mention the adaptive cruise control, what an amazing feature. I wish Honda and Toyota would make some simple base models. Driving the same, but with less power options and features. Bring back the DX. That way we have a long lasting enjoyable car at a much lower price. I can get a Corolla LE, a well equipped car, jut slightly less so that the SE, for $15000. Not that bad! Now, make these cars less feature full, maybe we can get a great car for -13 grand. The Fit should at least offer a simpler model for that much, or less.

I found it funny that they felt the civic handled better. SE has sports tuned suspensions, and if you know how to drive, is much more fun to drive.Of course, you have to wait for a year or so before the 'bucket' seats fit a normal person without hurting! I drive an EX and my wife bought an SE - I love driving the EX on highways for it's nice and soft pliant ride, but I often feel a lack of power and have to shift to S mode to overtake cars. In city streets, the way I drive, I prefer the SE, it feels planted on curves and corners, the EX has too soft a suspension and has light body roll issue. Both models are from 2015.

well, i have a feeling that the new Civic TYPE R will outhandle the Corolla SE mainly cause it has shocks that are valved for racing, it has brembo brakes up front, meaty sway bars, meaty tires, limited slip differential, and a stiff chassis. Plus it comes with 300hp and a short geared 6 speed manual transmission.

All these triggered Corolla owners be acting like the Corolla is soo much more reliable than the civic is kind of petty. Like stop trying to make the civic sound like a focus. Everyone knows that civics are reliable Japanese cars like the Corolla except the civic is a lot more refined with better handling, faster acceleration, and a much quieter engine.

The Civic and Corolla used to be THE compact economy cars at the top of their class. They just aren't anymore. Long-term quality isn't what it used to be. These days you're better off saving a couple thousand and getting a better warranted Hyundai Elantra or Kia Forte, who have come a LONG way in the last 20yrs. With that being said, between these two choices, my money is on Civic. Seems like a much more substantial and better quality car. Corolla looks and seems rather cheap in comparison.

@@connordurham8216 I didn't say 4yrs ago that they are bad cars, I just said they aren't as good as they used to be. Since my comment, I bought a new 2018 Elantra and love it and have since driven a 2020 Corolla for several days as a rental while on vacation. The Elantra hands down is the nicer car. Better build quality, interior materials, and much more engaging to drive. Long-term reliability probably won't be as good as the Corolla, but I dislike the Corolla styling and the way it drives enough to still prefer the Elantra.

I have the 2018 toyota corolla se and I love it, only thing that pisses me the fuck off is how the mph is all the way to the right and you can't get mph on the little screen in the middle.

Ok ok ok all you toyota hardcore fans. Toyota has only one good thing it's known for and that is it's reliability and dependability. But it has nothing else. I have owned 4 Hondas and just bought a 2018 Civic just like the one in this video. I don't know why y'all are bitching so much about Hondas. Toyota and Honda are the 2 best car brands on the market right now. Honda is just as reliable and dependable as Toyota. But I have to admit Toyota is lacking way behind when it comes to technology and their car designs. The Corolla look's like the typical average car design. It has nothing exciting about it and it rides like a piece of tin can on wheels. Their interior materials feel cheap and outdated. The Honda Civic on the other hand it feels modern and all their interior materials are perfectly crafted and stiched up like a luxury car. They handle so well and are fun to drive. After owning 2 Honda Civics, 1 Honda Accord and my current brand new 2018 Civic I will never buy anything else that is not a Honda. I have never had any kind of problems or anything has broke while owning a Honda product. Honda brand is the #1 best car brand in the Consumer Reports market. Fortunately Toyota is still #2. So my best advice to y'all Honda shunning people, Test drive a Honda Civic or any Honda vehicle and I will guarantee you, you will never go back to a Toyota. CHEERS!

Civic has an all new platform while the Corolla is old and not competitive. It's clear the Civic is automatically superior. Corolla will get the TNGA platform for MY 19 but that's awhile away.

Man spot on review!!! Why do I say that? My wife drives a 2016 Corolla S. I have a 2017 Civic Touring. So I think I know the dynamics of these two cars. Not much has carried over from the 16 to the 17 Corolla other then the front fascia redesign and Toyota Sensing. To add on to what these two guys are saying, you get a lot more car with the Civic. Stylish, sportier, faster, more tech, bigger, and reliability. They literally beat the Corolla in every category. The center touchscreen stack are always needing work. Even in my new civic, it’s slow. My iPad Pro will smoke the civics and corollas navigation screen anyday hot or cold. But with the civic, you do get android and Apple car play. No third party app. The Garmin Navi in the civic are software upgradeable via usb flash drive. How cool is that? Corolla? NO. Civics got daytime running LEDs too. And boy they look sharp to go with full led headlamps including high beams. Oh wait, it standard for the touring version haha. The sport mode for the civic simiulates gear shift and opens up the throttle so you get that instant boost. Oh, there’s a turbo charger from the EX trim on up. Corolla? Again, NO. So what car do you choose? It’s a no brainer.

I think the first year reliablity has been low for the Tacoma. They base this on the owners survey, they don't skew the data one way or another. Also this is the another 1st year redesign. Furthermore, it does seem like more and more cars are made to break down as this reaps huge profits for the car manufacturers..Sure, the cars/trucks/suvs that sell 30,000 a month or more like the RAV4, CRV, Camry, Corolla are prob going to be more reliable as these are the bread and butter of their respective companies. Yes, the Civic is supposed to be reliable, I think this go around is a little different as it's a huge redesign and the more expensive trimlines with more tech seem to have the most problems. Still, I've seen posts about welds, transmissions, seals, cracks, creaks, and on and on. There's a Civic sport hatch owner on KZbin that loves his new ride but he already has had problems with several lights on the dash, causing the Civic to drive rough..he took it into the dealer and they had trouble replicating the problem. He still loves his car but he admits there's something to worry about..will the lights come back on? Will it be easily fixed? etc. It sucks to take a car back into the dealer the 1st or 2nd month you've had it. The Civic forum I follow has 905 posts about issues, repairs, etc. www.civicx.com/forums/issues-repairs-warranty-tsb-recalls.42/ It's not just Consumer Reports saying the reliablity of the new Civic is below standard. There's a whole lot of info out there that tells you something just isn't right.

Drove the new Civic nice inside but have to agree with Eric Haynes there is nothing to worry about mechanical wise on a Civic. Honda knows engines as good or better then anyone and their CVT is fantastic I also have to say CVT's are awesome liking them more and more. Way to go Honda and Toyota for standing by them and not worrying about what these so called enthusiast's say they don't make up the majority of the car buying market anyway.

Until Honda makes the advanced safety features standard or at least available on the LX, it is not competitive. As a family car, you must put a lot more weight on this.
