The Toyota Tacoma has always lead the midsize sales charts for years, when the latest generation came to market in 2016, Toyota played it safe. Now, with the introduction of the even more off-road capable TRD Pro, buyers who have always wanted a Raptor in a more manageable and less expensive package should put this newest addition to the Tacoma family at the top of your shopping list.

Good video as always. Love the Taco TRD Pro. My personal favorite of the midsize pickup trucks though some of your reviewing colleagues prefer the Ridgeline (which isn't a truck) or the Colorado which looks soft (and doesn't offer a manual). Also, I don't particularly consider hard touch plastic or the rubbery stuff in a truck a bad thing. After all, it is a truck. I'm sure this truck wasn't even pretending to be a luxury truck.

It’s actually not a “drop in bed liner” it’s a box made of composite material bolted right to the frame. It is designed to be more durable than metal while not rusting like mental and it actually increases payload, love the videos though Redline Reviews!!

I have the pro cement in a Manual and I love the truck. I'm changing the few things I'm not crazy about. Ordered Hid's and also some 285/75/16 ko2's. I'm also waiting on The roll n lock cover to arrive. The rear drum breaks work just fine, I haven't noticed any difference while braking to be honest. I can live with not having power seats because like my previous cars I never moved my seat after setting it, I'm 6 ft tall and feels just right. I've had a sunroof in every car I've owned and to me it's just for Looks, never used it, the reason it didn't come with one is because most people will add a roof rack at some point. Also I'm not concerned about not having a front locker, I didn't spend 40k plus to climb anything that needs the front locker, and if I did down the road then I'd add one. It's a little under powered but it sure sounds nice to me going down the road. it's never going to be 100% perfect but I'm a fan of the truck. Just my review in case anyone was looking at this truck in the future. Some people get a little mad because of the price and just start talking down on it haha. It's a mean looking truck but not everyone has good taste.

I had the cement TRD Pro for about 6 months. Traded it in for my Chevy Colorado ZR2. Best decision EVER. More hp, more torque, rear disk brakes, rear locking differential, better seating position, android auto, Bose sound system, higher lift, better off road tires, factory spray in bed liner, power driver and passenger seats, better shocks, remote engine start, not a ton of plastic in the interior, AND less expensive! I liked my trd pro but I'm much happier with my ZR2 👍

Yes yes. I love this and the tundras, BUT I'm a firm believer in built, not bought. Therefore I have a tundra and Tacoma, both lifted (With functional lifts). However, if I wanted a truck that's ready for some light off road fun and didn't want to invest extra time and money, I'd go for this! And that cement color is to die for.

As pointed out already the hood scoop isn't functional. Also the bed isn't 5 and a half feet. It's 5 feet only. Lastly the S doesn't stand for sport in tundra and Tacoma on the shifter pattern. It's for sequential as it doesn't change anything in the shift logic. The ECT button should be pressed each time you get in the truck as that's essentially normal mode. It fires up in Econ mode each time otherwise.

As a Master tech for Toyota of 11 years I can tell you the 2016 Tacoma overhaul was the worst launch of a vehicle I have ever seen. Quality just tanked over night. The 4.0L was rock solid. The new direct inject 3.5 has had nothing but problems, the transmissions were shipped low on fluid and then that still didn't fix shifting issues and a updated computer reflash had to be released to fix it. Wind noises, and blind spot monitor issues and all these problems are right off of the delivery truck. You might think it's just cause I work for the dealer but to be honest 2015 and down Tacomas were bullet proof i would recommend a older one way before a newer one. My field tech engineer said he has never seen a new model launch with such failure before. Most of these issues are being worked out now for 2017 model but if you drive a 4.0l compared to the 3.5 it's extremely disappointing.
@pccchurch
@pccchurch 6 жыл бұрын
Definitely, the missed 4.0 1gr had more pull and sounded better. While the new Taco rides comfortably, it feels like it has a lot of rolling resistance at slow speeds. While their often used (in 18 Camry, Sienna, Taco, ES, IS, GS) 3.5 is capable as a sedan V6, it is not quite appropriate for a torque demanding truck. This new Taco reeks of accounting cost cutting by sharing as many parts as possible. I mean they started using plastic valve covers for crying out loud. Plastic engine parts are not my cup of tea as they not designed to last decades like the older Toyotas. 1 time use (impact) plastic bumpers also doesn't make sense in a truck ... I mean you cant even sit let alone stand on these bumpers anymore or else they break. Last, what is up with rear drums in this day and age? Cost cutting that's what. Tacos have alot of their parts (frames, leafs) made south of the border with iffy QC. I was set to get one last year but a test drive and a quick inspection turned me off immediately. It's not that it's a horrible vehicle. It's just that number crunchers definitely neutered this new model Taco from what it used to be.

Every major auto publication such as Consumer Reports, Car and Driver, JD Power, Edmunds actually have the Ridgeline ranked first, with the Tacoma being near the bottom of the pack. It's a good offroader, but it lags behind the competition in just about everything else.

My dad has a 2017 Ridgeline & it's an awesome truck!
@jasonouellette6179
@jasonouellette6179 6 жыл бұрын
The Ridgeline has a lower towing capacity and it doesn't come equipped for heavy duty off roading, but it does everything else better than any other truck in the mid size segment. It's more comfortable, faster, handles better, has more tech, more cabin room, more bed utility, better fuel economy and it's torque vectoring AWD system, while not designed for heavy duty off roading, will do better on low traction surfaces such as snow/ice. It all boils down to what you want. If you off road a lot and looks matter to you, then sure, a Tacoma will fit the bill just fine, but for an everyday all around family vehicle, nothing touches the Ridgeline in the mid size segment.

@jasonouellette6179
@jasonouellette6179 6 жыл бұрын
Akhil Bolla the Ridgeline's system is built more for cornering in low traction situations (snow, ice, slick terrain etc...). It can be capable enough for heavy duty stuff if equipped with the proper tires, shocks, lift, but it will never be a true off road machine, like a Tacoma or the ZR2. A true 4×4 system with a lo range would mean that they would have to completely re-engineer the driveline on the Ridgeline, which i'm sure Honda has no interest in doing. Where the Ridgeline shines is with on road traction and cornering in winter conditions. It's AWD system is the same as the Acura SHAWD. It has the ability to send 70 percent of the engine's torque side to side at the rear to whichever wheel has the most traction, while the traction control takes care of the front wheels. Different systems for different purposes. As an everyday vehicle, i'll take the AWD system.

when a guy reviews a 4 wheel drive truck that was built for off road and complains about not enough leather surfaces you quickly realize you have a mall crawler reviewing this truck. Plastic is easy to clean....the tires are the 1 thing most of replace that have gone off road with them. They are great on pavement but suck in real off road conditions.

Love this truck. But I think it’s underpowered, and the interior is rather lackluster for the money.

Tacoma Pro For $42,000 I'll just get the Tundra off road... you money will be better well spent. V8 and room. That's what i would have done.

If u go in the bush take extra gas in gas cans it only has a 300 mile range on pavement. So less off-road

It looks very "normal" and I love that! I hate the way the Honda Ridgeline looks, way too suburban

My 2016 TRD Sport was stolen off my driveway. Good riddance on my 2016. Insurance replaced it with a 2017 TRD Sport. Happy that I got a better manufacturing year.

So 44,000 for a truck with no sunroof or CarPlay, hard touch plastics, halogen headlights and rear drum brakes? What a joke. Toyota couldn’t even swing a hydraulic prop for the hood. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Theyre simply riding off the Tacoma name and brand now. With lack of competition in the small truck segment they don't care. lol @Colorado. Im hoping the new Ranger will change that.

JPCJ if the GM twins never got updated I'm sure the Tacoma would still be on the previous gen. There just lazy. Obviously thanks to the twins Ford has realized the market is there.
