When I took my Dachshund rabbit hunting,the others laughed because she couldn't keep up with the beagles so she just stayed close to me. As the first rabbit jumped out of the bushes,Bella ran & caught it to shake to death with the other dogs watching in amazement. I got 2 more rabbits that hunt and didn't have to pull my trigger once.

Excellent shooting. Half the time I couldn't even see the game - and you made the shot! Very nice rifles as well and fine application for the .416. Well done!
@mchughcb7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Its not easy to film with the Sony FDR X3000 action camera and hunt at the same time. The foxes can come out of anywhere, anytime. The limit for seeing any clarity is about 50 yards which is the range of the half choke. I missed the stag with the 416 while trying to turn the camera on and close the bolt. I should have just shot the stag, however the stag will be eternally grateful it was just filmed :)

Notice any difference in the hunting drive between the wire haired and smooth haired? I live in the United states and have been thinking about getting a dachshund for rabbits and blood trailing big game but can only find long haired and smooth haired breeders here near me.
@mchughcb6 жыл бұрын
The wirehair is much bigger so is able to tackle foxes but the smooth hair has a better nose for sniffing out rabbits, foxes and deer. Also better at blood tracking.

As a scandinavian, when I see American videos with Dachshunds in them, it is striking how small they seem. They also seem to come in all kinds of crazy colors and patterns that I've never seen before. I guess Dachshund's are almost exclusively bred to be companion dogs in America. If that is the case, it is not suprising that the dogs are so different. Over here, they are very popular hunting dogs. The wire hair variety are the most common over all and espesially in hunting. Not only is the coat more suitable to the climate, but they are generally more robust. Some claim they are more stubborn, but I can't answer to that. I understand this could be out of option for different reasons, but consider importing european Dachshunds if you want dogs with a documented good hunting pedigree.

How is your camera mounted? Smooth. Stabilizer? Hat bill moves in and out of frame. 🤔 What lights up on your wrist ? Noticed it when firing the big bore. Fun dogs. 👍
@mchughcb7 жыл бұрын
The camera is mounted on the earmuffs. The stabilisation is from gimbal of the Sony FDRX3000. The flashing on the wrist is the remote from my old Drift Ghost S action camera now retired for the Sony.

Love your work I’m only 14 but I love this way of life I’m thinking of training my basset for this how did you train your dachshund to track foxes
@mchughcb7 жыл бұрын
I started them on blood tracking deer. After a while they picked up tracking rabbits and foxes. If you basset hound has some prey drive then there is a chance he can be trained. If you can find a hunt club, then with a bit of luck it will start voicing with the other hounds. My dachs don't voice but will bark when they get a bail up.
@jaimebarrera7767 жыл бұрын
Alright thanks for the advice I know she has prey drive because we’ve have gotten her to trail wounded deer and she has successfully found them took a couple of hours but she found them

F3 is far too nice to drag through fences and brambles every week. However I do like the F16 and no doubt if I acquire a field model you will see some videos on that. Watch my other video's for jagd terriers in Victoria.
