I was skeptical of this guy giving a decent review but it was good! He knows his facts and really gave a good impression of what this car can do performance wise. We all know how tight the interior feels , build quality etc..

I'm currently debating on a Mini Countryman over a Golf. I rented a Zipcar Volkswagon Golf and was literally floored by the quality. Even the lowest model was awesome.

I have a 2016 Golf S TSI. Mine doesn't have the leather, but the build quality is very good, even in a base model like mine, it's tight and has a high quality feel, plus the sound system rocks. To me, nothing compares to any Golf model for the price.

I prefer the brushed trim. Doesn't show as many fingerprints or dust.

i have the same car but the 2016 MK7 SE TSI DSG and love it even after a year and a half. i have way to many miles but that's just a testament that i love driving it so much. looking forward to checking into an APR Tune stage 1 and see how the torque is then.

You are right totally feels high quality. I have a 2017 Golf TSI 330 wheel hp 5 speed transmission is solid my top speed so far 145 mph.

My second golf, first was a manual - spoiled me with the quality and handling, just can’t get that w any other cars I tested (at that price range). I have the 2017 SE, drove from Austin to Greensboro, NC and averaged 39 mpg. I check mpg w every tank on my own. I love being first off the light, seeing all the other cars in my rear view. It’s fun to drive and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Also, the fender sound system sounds pretty good.

My '15 SE Golf Sportwagon auto 1.8 is definitely, Audi lite. German road car. Still love it after 7 years. My 6sp auto is great and was a 1200 option in 2015. My best mpg was 39mpg on highway round trip. You can hold the right paddle shifter with the minus symbol and it will go back to auto mode.

Which Golf trim in the U.S. comes with a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine? The S model is 1.8 isn't it?

None. They're all 1.8. I bet you the SEL he's driving is a 2016 model. 2017 only had the S and Wolfsburg models.

Y Brent yes i think i did. The trim change for 2017.5 caught me out. This SEL was not technically on sale for last half of model year. I though Autobahn replaced it- but was mistaken. SEL was equipped differently. Thanks for watching!

There are four trims for 2017 in the Golf hatchback but only two are listed on the website for weird marketing and sales reasons only known to VWoA. The S is the lowest, then the Wolfsburg Edition is above that, both available with 5-speed MT or 6-speed auto. That's where the VW website stops. But there are unadvertised SE and SEL models too just like in 2016. The S is fairly basic-ish, cloth interior, that's about it. The Wolfsburg adds heated seats, auto headlamps and wipers, some driver's assistance goodies, leatherette, 16" rims , and a sunroof. The SE is like the Wolfsburg and mostly adds the Fender Audio and foglamps and different 16" rims but has no 5-speed MT choice like the lower models and is auto only. The SEL shown in this video goes beyond that with nav, 17" rims, piano black trim, higher-end seats and different seat pattern, and more power adjustability to the driver's seat and the driver assistance package on the SEL is more comprehensive than on the SE and Wolfsburg Edition. If you go to edmunds.com you can see all trims and build/price them. The Wolfsburg really is the best value overall for the price (under $23K as a MT, under $24K as an auto). The SE isn't that great value compared to the Wolfsburg (more like $26K) and doesn't have all that much more stuff really. The SEL is nice but it's mostly the "pimptastic" model, especially when fitted with the full driver's assistance package and lighting package.

SEL seems to be a limited edition model. Don't know where it'll show up. Difficult to get a fair market price in the event of a total loss. Lost mine in the Houston Hurricane Harvey flood. Got 22,800 on a 3 month old car bought at 29,000. Loved the car. Much better quality based on similar price other models. If the size is where you want to be...this is the car for you.

Wisdom of Gordon looks like this is the Sportwagen, the wagon variant of the Golf, which indeed comes in the SE and SEL trims for 2017 as well as 2018.
