2018 09 12 - Ueli & Gio present : Eiger over Mittellegi ridge

Күн бұрын

Day 2 : Ascent over the Mittellegi Ridge to the Eiger 3970 mt. with the use of our headlamps we set off before dawn breaks and reach the first climbing section just as it starts to get light.
The ridge is unbelievably impressive and the views we get of the North Face from the ridge make our heart beat faster.
A fixed rope helps us over the Gendarm Buttress and on to the summit.
The last few pitches ascend over a sharp Firn ridge.
The views are overwhelming.
The Eiger is and remains a myth !
Blissfully happy we reach the summit and yet must not forget that we have
only reached half-time.
The descent demands full concentration.
First we rappel to the northern Eigerjoch and continue along the connecting ridge to the southern Eigerjoch.
Along this ridge we will encounter some outstanding climbing sections.
We round-up the Monch to the southside of the Jungfraujoch.

Truly an incredible video. So inspiring. -And thanks for limiting the music and letting natural sounds tell the story. One question, why the tandem roping at all? He was rarely in a position to react or protect you using the rope because of the nature of ridge traversing. Is it required by regulation? Did you prefer it? and why? Seems like more of a liability except for those 2 clip in bolt areas. But I've never done any climbing on this level so maybe I'm missing something key. Thanks

At these levels they won't take you up if they don't know you VERY well, I have performed 2 more exams before this VERY HARD classified climb: the Wetterhorn ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/anSnlZqeqJmSpbs kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXm4eJl7equpgMU ) and the traverse of the Mönch ( in bad weather kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJnSg6KAe7agg7M ) anyway if my guide was very accidentally slipped on one side ( very difficult ) I would have jumped to the other without thinking about half a second !

Adidas Lover Haha! Thank you for checking out my video on the Eiger 😄 I think there is a lot around Chamonix you could do - Dent du Géant (did a video on that too), Tour Ronde, Midi Plan Traverse or maybe the Aiguille Marbrées Traverse. If you want to do an easy peak I can highly recommend climbing the Mönch in Switzerland close to the Eiger. I am actually going to Austria in a couple of weeks to climb Großglockner...that might be worthwhile too.

Awesome...very scary at times and just when I think you are there you keep going. Quick question, would the ropes going up to Everest be better off switched to these 1" ropes that used to climb Eiger? The Everest Climbers are always saying that they aren't sure which rope to hook onto, so maybe it is time to cut them all and install a 1"?
@GiorgioCanepaMBG
@GiorgioCanepaMBG 2 жыл бұрын
I think that on Everest there is a brothel of fixed ropes and I agree that you do not know which one to hold on to, but since they can't even bring down the dead figured if they think about the ropes...
