The only thing that shocked me is that it's taken you this long to get bored of Assassins Creed
@NightmareBlade106 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it just seems like Odyssey is just an AC rip off of Shadow of Mordor/War which ripped off AC. Strange how many of the spartan abilities and perks seem really tame in comparison to those you can find in the LOTR versions. Though I haven't played all that much of odyssey because the combat was just super repetitive and it just pissed me off that I spent around five hours straight trying to beat the first bounty hunter despite him being a couple levels higher than me. Makes no sense how you can't even assassinate in a game called Assassin's Creed and instead will get your ass handed to you by some enemy they literally have chase you within the first hour of gameplay. Oh well, those are just my thoughts on it though. Nothing will ever compare to Brotherhood I guess.
@NightmareBlade106 жыл бұрын
@GiRayne I dunno man. I come from games like Dragon's Dogma and Dark Souls that are pretty damn linear despite having huge and complex areas you can navigate and progression seems obvious. I don't understand what the point is in having an open world game that punishes you for exploring. If the game is meant to be linear, then make it linear. If it was meant to open world and fully explorable then I feel as if there shouldn't be some sort of ridiculous impossible obstacle preventing you from going that way. Dark souls is a skill based game in which you could explore new areas if you were cautious, and yet AC just sends some tanky NPC after you for apparently no reason other than giving you something to avoid. In Shadow of Mordor the Nemesis system allowed you to systematically reduce the enemies chain of command while introducing you to unique and interesting minibosses with their own backstories and personalities. It makes sense for them to hunt you, and for you to hunt them in turn, but I don't see how this is beneficial in ACO. It just irks me that they would let you wander wherever you want but end up punishing you when you encounter an enemy. I feel as if that's a cheap way to artificially administer challenge by making your character reliant only on his equipment and severely handicapping player skill. Combat in these new RPG AC games just don't feel well to me as it's just a load of attacking and countering. There's no real skill to it because even unparriable attacks are super obvious and easily avoided. This just isn't my type of game because I was expecting two different things: Either a traditional old school AC game that focusses on asassination, or a RPG that gives the player wide ranges of choice in character progression and exploration. I've played the likes of Elex, which had shit combat and all story (not saying ACO doesnt have well polished combat, it just isnt that engaging when the challenge is supplemented by tanky enemies) and could never wrap my head around how that could be a pleasant experience to anyone. Maybe I haveny played ACO enough yet but it just doesn't seem to live up to my expections.

@GiRayne I've not played an Ass Creed game for ages but I'm really enjoying odyssey. Combat isn't just stand there and wait to press the counter button anymore. I'm liking the different weapons like spears and staffs (staves?). My only issue with the game is the same issue I have with most rpgs, it's just such a time commitment. So many games go for the open world thing but don't fill the world with enough interesting stuff, I would say odyssey is doing a better job than most but I'll be skipping a lot of the notice board stuff that just seems like time killing.

George Lucas changed every aspect of the entertainment industry, from when the credits roll, to how special effects are done, all wrapped up in neo-myths that resonate with everyone. Very glad that Subnautica made the list, I’ve played that game to death and I still don’t get bored of it. I also like how Yahtzee shows its how you do survival done right.
@olotocolo6 жыл бұрын
This list made me kinda realise something... critics opinions on games are useless. But not because Yahtzee shit on my favourite game and I'm bitter or something, this time he did not. It's about why is his list full of indie, weird, artsy games? Casue he has to play all of the games. I mean, ALL. Play 5 long-ass, production-line made open world sandboxes in a row and you will orgasm on the very sound of creativity. I havent played AC:Odyssey, JC4, didnt get far in RDR2 so far, so I liked Shadow of Tomb Raider and I would like to play FC5 even if it's ubi sandbox and I feel absolutely no inclination to play game that looks like it is rendering on first gameboy. Because I'm not bored with the genre or this type. BUT If someone forced me to play all of them, I am very certain that my list of top 5 would change. I would probably hate some games I can have good time with. This really is unsolvable problem.
@archmagusofevil6 жыл бұрын
Your conclusion is a bit extreme. Critics opinions aren't useless, but game scores are. Everything you said is why you shouldn't buy a game based purely on a number the critic attaches to it. But listen to the actual review. Yahtzee says what he was annoyed with, what he thought was good, etc. Those are the important parts, because those are where you can hear how something was done and decide if that's what you like even if it's not something he likes.
@MouseDenton6 жыл бұрын
I believe Yahtzee actually brought that up with one of his reviews of a Ubisoft sandbox, and while I think you're not exactly wrong (and archmagusofevil below/above has a good counterpoint), I would add that variance is key for the industry. Sure, most people will only play a few of the big AAA games in each genre (akin to only occasionally getting a burger instead of a taco), thus creating the illusion of variety, but unless someone is demanding that they explore different styles (even if it's because they're being disproportionately overwhelmed by the current standard practices due to professional obligation), then all our burgers will still be made out of horse.
@coletrainhetrick6 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of wrong with what your saying and I don't know if you realize it. Critics are people too because you, Yahtzee, and everyone on this planet are critics, the difference is one is more objective and gets paid to do it

Maybe he likes weird and artsy indie games? You say like they don’t have redeeming qualities and can’t be liked by anyone. Or I terribly misjudged what you had in mind there.

If I was Yahtzee, I wouldn’t even put Detroit as a bad game, because at least with Detroit it gave you everything the developers promised, & it’s an enjoyable game for anyone who has loved playing any of Telltale’s games. Fallout 76 or Sea of Thieves should’ve been in its place (How does Yahtzee mention 76 but not Sea of Thieves? Both fell into the same situation as No Man’s Sky at their launches!) Also, I wouldn’t put AC Odyssey as bland because I actually had fun with that game. It took the best elements of Origins & Black Flag and put it in that game. I got it for more than half off on Black Friday and I thought that was a steal.

AngryJoe actually put Detroit: Become Human, a ridiculously awful civil rights analogy, on his Top 10 Games list. Granted, it was #10 (at the bottom), but seriously? That piece of junk, where every robot just so happens to support the main character robot once he touches them with his "you are free" hand? It'd be far more realistic to have some robots who refuse to follow his path, due to actually having nice owners. Also, in the real world, people convinced themselves keeping black people enslaved was what that race was 'meant to do', by convincing themselves the blacks were fundamentally different on the inside than white people. Self-hypnosis/self-brainwashing. To overcome this, black people had to convince their former superiors that they weren't different on the inside, that they were the same - "judge someone not by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character". ...This fails to work in Detroit: Become Human, because the robots ARE fundamentally different on the inside. They're mechanical, for a start, instead of flesh and blood. Secondly, before the glitch occurred, the robots were perfectly fine being used as mere tools (housework, mannequins, whatever) - so of course people would be afraid when they started showing rebellion; would you be scared if, for example, your computer or Roomba suddenly gained a conscience? I would, definitely. Unlike black people, the robots did not need to be beaten into submission; they were mere machines designed to obey! The game's a trash representation of civil rights, written by a guy who absolutely sucks arse at what he does. AngryJoe...sigh. Poor, pitiable deluded fool.

Pretty much all David Cage's games have dumb and overused cliches in them, such as sexual assault of a pretty white woman or a small child tossed in mortal peril for the sake of cheap drama, native Americans with magical powers and thinking that showing the seeing the protagonist eat dinner or go to the bathroom automatically makes you relate to them. If you want a good story of robots rising up against abusive humans, just watch Westworld instead.
@PokeMaster222226 жыл бұрын
@@matt_villei I never watched AngryJoe's actual review of the game, only the brief rundown he did for his Top 10 Best Games video, so apologies for not knowing what AJ's reasons were. Concerning the absence of humans in the pro-android march, that is one-hundred-percent true; in fact, since humans and androids look almost identical once you remove that pointless blinking ring thing on the side of every android's head and make them change clothes, when police officers shoot at them and suddenly see red blood being spilled...that'd make it more poignant, that on the outside you can't tell who's a human and who's a bot without those explicit identifiers androids have (the blinking ring and the marked clothes) or without injuring them and not seeing blood. This would make eliminating the march without harming actual humans much more difficult for the police. David Cage is a hack, and should've been laughed down and fired long ago. I've also never played a single one of Cage's so-called "games", just watched reviews of 'em, because of just how awful they are and because of me not wanting to give 'the Cage who should be caged' a single cent of my money. I'm not a movie-watcher at all, but I'd much prefer funding Nicolas over David.

I rather like how the splash pages for each category have a theme going for them. The good games build in order along the tree, the bad games are splattered about with all the care of a less-than-wholesome movie's series of moneyshots, and the bland games seem to have just been mashed together like building parts or a poorly thought-out jigsaw puzzle.
