Mr. Ryan Neil i appreciate your tenacity and your wherewithal of letting such negative experience flow through in you in a + way! Even the fact in your pride of morality to acknowledge a mr of that whom asserted disregard (if no intention of him trying to invoke your passion - it’s all you in your effort for passion in the craft). Enough of that which is wasted energy but that my conformation to your passion that i duly respect and find admirable! I appreciate your share in not losing your own selfRespect by negative experience, an example i appreciate! I stand at this point to no longer call it bonsai, and would like find that name to which belongs a craft i love, personally in my home and my family, to craft a tree in a pot as a Mirai, that’s where the sound of my eye lies!

I just got permission from the forestry service to get my own yamadori rocky mountain juniper tree here in bc. I'm super excited and looking forward to having a tree that's hundreds of years old that I've collected myself. I'm new to bonsai and watching and listening to Ryan has been very insightful and has inspired me to learn and create. Just want to thank you for sharing and letting us learn the finer points of bonsai that very few people will share freely.

I really appreciate the acknowledgement of the interplay between the photosynthetic dynamic of growth patterns and the influence of environmental forces of the wind. The intelligent application of a strategy that incorporates these in the design makes so much sense.

He is actually thinking like a tree vs what a human would like the tree to be. This is very helpful. I have been making Bonsai off and on for years but I'm always super self conscious about people watching me or judge what I did. I always feel like the competitiveness and all these rules make this an intimidating hobby to get into.

Taiga said in an interview, in Japan as the Oyakata you almost need your apprentice to hate you to get the best out of them. It's total respect towards you Oyakata and under Kimura, you are always an apprentice with him and never on an equal level. He is everything!

As a beginner Mirai enthusiast, Ponderosa pine shall have to be my first Mirai tree (similar endeavor to pottedTree as what is more commonly known in Japan as bonsai) of the pine variety due its horticultural defenseMechanism to the deadly bore predator. Thank you Ryan for your tutelage and my confidence is inspired to engage my Mirai collection with empowerment!

Ryan, what should the new name for this art/craft be? Maybe moving away from a literal description to also include the other accent plants? 'Culturally significant plants' is what they are to me but might not roll off the tongue. It doesnt mention the container though it would include yamadori and urbandori??? For me this new name idea is a way to conect this wonderful art/craft deeper into a new cultural caretaker... If you will.

Amazing story of Master and Apprentice hidden in this video. I wouldn't be surprised if Master Kimura purposely rejected Ryan to force him to be the Master he is today. In many fields, I have often seen the top Apprentice handled the mantle from the Master, but they merely repeat what they learned, instead of going on to push boundaries. Sometimes, creativity and genius comes from pain and suffering. I could imagine Kimura in his final days, writing a letter to his favorite Apprentice.

I still dont know how people complain to do any of these subjective art forms "right". I mean i like hearing this stuff, but lets be honest, he's teaching and showing us what properties HE finds appealing and what HE likes, its certainly not "correct". He continually talks about making it natural, but that tree looks nothing like a large natural juniper, for example. Again, I love the ideas hes talking about and certainly knows more than me, but this seems more like one of those hobbies you take a little here and a little there until you find out what YOU like, as theres no way it can be done "correct".

I think that he explained and freed our imagination to proyect the final result, because he finished the first branch, the posterior branch already naturally placed, the second branch and the apex might be just a theme about the flow of the foliage. I reasently learn an art therm aplyed in bonsai that's called focal point. And in these case the focal point is the complete live vane and dead wood, he left exposed.

Best learning lesson here for me is never put anyone or anything above God. Man kind is easy to forsake you and God says he’ll never forsake us. It’s sad that you allowed that to happen. I understand striving to do a good job and wanting to please the people you look up too. But there’s only one God who reins over everything and through his Son Jesus Christ we can have salvation. I’m not trying to be judgmental of you or if you believe in another God that’s your decision. We have free will. I enjoy your lessons and learn so much from your videos please keep up the hard work and sharing your knowledge and hopefully you’ve given some thought to the knowledge I’ve shared as well. May God bless you and open your hearts to receive his message. And keep up the great work in American Bonsai!!!
