Today we are replacing the front wheel hub on my brothers 2018 Ford F-150 4x4. It was a pretty simple replacement when you order the whole hub kit from ford. We where only able to buy it from ford sense it is such a new truck.

Yeah my 2018 F150 has been making those howling sounds sounds like tire tread resonance but it goes away when I turn to the right. Then I checked the left wheel bearing and sure enough that hub bearing assembly has side play and soft grind sound when turned. Your video really helped me prepare for changing it out my driveway next week.

It worked out well and only took a couple hours and a few beers. I didn’t have a vacuum pump to pull in the iwe so I hooked up 12 feet of vacuum line from my iwe’s vacuum port to my other truck and it worked great and only costs a few dollars vs $60. For those looking to do this job, I added hi temp grease to the axle and gears, torqued hub & calipers at 148 lbft. Dust shield to 8 lbft. And axle nut at 30 lbft.

What a timely and great video! I was certain that the rumbling I was hearing was not coming from my new Michelin Defender tires, which are noted for their quiet ride! I did the wheel shake test after thinking about how when I steer to the right, the ride is quieter, rumble gone! So I'm setting up a wheel bearing/hub replacement. It was the driver's side bearing that was bad. Going to get both sides replaced. Thanks again for the great video!

Just changed my left front today. Had a mechanic friend do it while I watched and learned. As with anything the tools are 75% of the job, took under an hour. My truck is a 2018 with 70,000 miles. After changing it out and hearing the quiet after the repair I’m pretty sure it has been going since 50 or 60,000. I work my truck pretty hard though so I’m assuming I just wore it out.

It's highly recommended to torque the center hub assembly nut to the correct specification. Overtorquing can decrease the life of the bearing. An air rachet is not recommended.

Nice video! My '18 XLT (56,000 mi) was having the left front partial 4wd engagement issue that seems to be prevalent on the F150s. I replaced the vacuum check valve with a new one, and that issue was taken care of. However, now, the bearing is starting to whine, so I'm guessing it was contaminated by some grindings (no warning lights yet). I've only found one or two sources for the hub online other than direct from Motorcraft. But at least now I know this is doable :)

Andrew Jenkins Luckily, I had a happy outcome to this. Took it in to the local Ford dealership, and they replaced it under the drivetrain warranty. Still, it seems common enough that Ford should probably have issued a TSB if not a recall for it. I’d hate to be driving and have the bearing fail completely.

@@adairlee5834 Certainly could be a cause if there is a significant vacuum leak. However, I would think this would show up in other engine error codes, but that's just speculation. Good luck if you can figure out your truck's issues.

Wait!!!! This is dangerous!!!!! I have all data and the 4 bolts that you put back into that wheel hub are supposed to be replaced. They are torq to yield bolts. Also the axle nut should be replaced as well. It is also torq to yield as well. Also the vaccume actuated 4wd your supposed to put a vaccume on that to decompress the 4wd actuator that way when. You put the axle back in and you torq that axle nut. It goes to the proper torq spec. If your 4wd still works then your verry lucky. And your truck is dangerous cause it’s now held together with used torq to yield one time use bolts and nuts. Yea you got this job done but it’s half ass and dangerous
