2018 Harley-Davidson Street Bob test ride - bold style and performance

If you want to skip the intro, the Street Bob test ride begins at the 2:49 mark.
Try and put aside that it is no longer a Dyna, because this new Street Bob is a winner! With blacked-out trim, and mini-ape handle-bars, this bike was impressive in style, and didn't disappoint in performance and handling. I am shorter rider (at 5'6" and a 30" inseam), so if you are about that height, you can comfortably fit this ride.

Yes, the dual LED taillights in the last Dyna FatBob are nice. But the swoop in the tail of your FatBob look quite nice. Subtle differences I know. Keep making videos. You know what you are doing.

Nice video. I went and test rode the 18 street bob yesterday. I haven’t ridden in years and what I have was dirt bike and a Sportster a friend had. I’m a short 5’6 and this bike was perfect for me! I loved it and I’m really hoping to make a deal. They want to much in dealer prep fees!

If you wait a little longer, sometimes they have demo truck bikes, or slightly used bikes that they'll sell slightly less. Check the dealer's websites closest to you for '18 models with

Do you think if the seat was maybe a little taller and more forward it would suit another 5 ft 6 guy as far as the mids and bars?

The bike fit me really well, as is, and if you had an aftermarket seat that put you up higher and forward, I think you'd still be good. My inseam is about 30", so if you're about there, yeah, I think you'll be fine. Throw a leg over one at your dealer and see how it fits stock, and you can go from there. Thanks for watching! :D

The closest demo day where I am is from 8:00 to 9:30. I am curious as to how long it was for you and does it just depend on a certain dealership

It was all day Friday and Saturday. I took the day off on the Friday, as I'm sure it was much busier on the Saturday. Some demo days only let you ride two bikes, but if you go early enough, and there aren't a lot of riders they may let you ride more.

Would yo have one over your Fat Bob? Thats the question. How did you feel the Street Bob fitted you? I am i think same height as you 5.6. Only had my 48 since October but already i am thinking of a Dyna/Softail. Finances aside for a moment, i strongly suspect the M8 engine is better than old and likewise the frame but i just don't dig thestyling of these new bikes and especially the digital display on the Street Bob, horrible. Must learn to appreciate what i have!!

I like the blacked out look, and the mini-apes kinda grew on me after the short ride. I would not choose it over my Fat Bob, and definitely not over the '18 Fat Bob. It was a great fit, though, for our size. The mid controls felt a lot better with my hands up higher, in contrast to the Lowrider, where I felt a little cramped. IMHO, the M8, combined with the reduced weight, definitely gives the new models a sportier feel.

I got black and the controls really grow on u just got to give it a lil bit to let ur legs adjust I don't plan on gettin rid of minei lobe it especially not that I got exhaust on it

@@muddigger1985 Bunking crash bar gives you another place to put your feet, improves the seat, when you get good you can break and down shift with your heals.

I sat on a Street Bob the other day and was surprised to find it better than the Low Rider even with the same mids. Must have a bit taller/firmer seat. My knees felt about even with my hips on that one where they felt higher on the LR. On a separate note, the rear brake lever was obviously designed for the Street Bob/LR. It's perfectly positioned for those mid pegs. They put it on the Fat Bob with the forward pegs and it's all wrong for that. I broke my ankle in a bike wreck and can't even extend my toes down far enough reach it on the Fat Bob. This high bar nonsense is trendy in Harley circles these days. It sits you up and spreads you out like a sail at highway speeds. I notice that most of the kids are rocking little fairings with their T bars now to diminish the wind blast. The other issue with high bars (and forward pegs for that matter) is that it kinda locks you in place so it's harder to use body English when riding. When your bars are low and you've got your nose in the mirror and your ass off the seat, the bars are nearly inline with your shoulders which makes it very easy to make inputs. It's also a whole lot easier to do when your pegs are under you. For puttering around town, just about anything will do. For docile riding, I actually like the forward pegs of the new Softies. I put highway pegs on my Versys, so I can have whichever position I'd like for a given situation.

Great stuff, thanks! Even on the short ride, I could feel where fatigue would come into play with the mini-apes. I didn't' feel to spread out, though, but much higher than they are, and I be you would. I've had all three positions for bikes I've owned, and at this stage in my riding, I prefer the forward controls. I can handle the bike well in corners, and it's also comfortable on longer rides.

I had the mini-apes on my Superlow, they kinda look cool but for me it made the steering feel vague. My 48 with the more conventional bars feel much more responsive. Also, i am really converted on forward controls, so much more relaxing as well as giving you that cool/bad ass look!

Riding around suburbia, it's all ya need. Take that bike out to some twisty roads thru the Mendocino National Forest you'll quickly learn the virtues of lighter bikes with sportier ergonomics ;)

I’ll be new to riding, will be taking the MSF course, looking at the, scout bobber twenty, Iron1200 and this one, which is the bike that I really like. Would this be a good first bike?, if you are conscious about the power it makes and ride safe, would it be something a beginner could handle?, Great video 👍

The Street Bob is a bit more bike than the Iron and Bobber Twenty, in weight and in power. I'd say if you've test ridden both of the others, and handled them fine, try the Street Bob. It's a well balanced bike, and the weight shouldn't be that big of an issue, but if you're coming straight from one of the MSF bikes, it may feel a bit much. If your concern is getting bored with the Scout or the Sporty quickly, you could consider the Street Bob. If you're confident in your skills after the course, I think it could work. If you're feeling iffy, I'd go with the smaller option. Good luck and have fun and ride safe! 🤓👍🏽
