Jesus i didn't realize that the previous gen was 17 years old at this point. It actually looks like a much smaller bike, but to me it looks manageable. And almost a hundred pounds off is no small feat. Swap exhausts and that's probably another 30 ish pounds right there. I'm still far too young to be riding a couch like that, but hey, i know they're reliable and a lot faster than people think. There's a reason people use the Goldwing for coast-to-coast trips. Good job Honda, now lets see the VFR get a serious power update. Keep that V4 alive!

Mat Bettinson well the 6th gen 800 was updated couple of years ago in 2014. Considering how long it took them to update the 6th gen VTEC, it's probably going to be a while! More likely to see them update the 1200 and kill off the 8th gen 800 all together.
@goldfever45707 жыл бұрын
I looked at prices on autotrader earlier this week - was amazed to see
@MatBettinson7 жыл бұрын
The 800 is popular in Australia (1200 isn't, people care about weight and range) but... there's a guy on the netrider forum that has been trying to sell a 2003 VFR800 in excellent condition. He can't sell it for $4000 (2300 British pesos). Something about motorcycles, people are spoilt for choice with low km, recent model second hand offerings, hard to shift anything else.
@MatBettinson7 жыл бұрын
I doubt the 800 is going anywhere. I don't know how it performs worldwide, but the 800 dramatically outsells the 1200 in Australia. Actually the 800X alone does better.

@simonflr7 жыл бұрын
I like the narrower look. I like the 90 pound weight reduction. The improved mileage is good (although it only offsets the reduced tank capacity). The electric screen and all the other entertainment stuff is just something to break as far as I am concerned. The automatic transmission may pull in some new fans; but again as with the electronics I don't care for it. Running through the gears is part of riding as far as I am concerned. Came back from Punta Gorda to Land O Lakes on Saturday I shifted gears twice (pretty sure) in a 112 miles. If you're on the highway the automatic is no great benefit. Nice machine overall to be sure. But my favorite Honda was and is the ST 1300.
@taalibmuhammad75587 жыл бұрын
Major upgrade! Although the overall width and length has been reduced just two inches each...the bikes looks much leaner and sleek. As great as the GW is...it was time to advance into the 21st century...and once again, Honda leaves the others in the dust!
@taalibmuhammad75587 жыл бұрын
BMW is a great machine. In regards to your point...the suspension adjustment is electronic (not manual) and there are 4 (vs 3) settings. The DCT; Apple Car Pay; airbag; standard GPS; Home-link; XM Radio; removable trunk; etc. explains my assessment. And the only way anyone will ride 300+ miles on a 1600...is if they're going 40mph...downhill...maybe. :-)

My '06 is my second GL. I've been waiting along time for Honda to make the updates to keep up with the other manufacturers. The changes to the '18 are significant; I'll be purchasing one. I'm disappointed in the reduced luggage capacity., which is a HUGE loss. What I haven't read or seen anything about is an electric center stand. Granted the bike is lighter, but as I hit my mid 50s, and ride into my 60's, I really don't want to heave this thing. Now the accessories that need to follow: air wings, luggage racks, passenger foot pegs, trailer hitch...

Great intro from Motorcycle.com. I used to have a Voyager XII and have wanted to own a Goldwing but I could never get comfortable on the bike. Just strange ergonomics for me. I will demo this bike if I have the chance and see what I think. My touring days may be coming to an end though. Thinking about hauling bikes to the fun roads and have a basecamp instead of riding 2000 miles to get to the fun roads.
@mattmccarty726 жыл бұрын
It is funny how they don't talk about trunk and side bag space which has continually gotten smaller every time the bike has a redesign(no long hauls I guess). Also the front fairing has become very narrow, almost looks like a Yamaha FJR, and because they made the fairing so narrow, they couldn't drop the windshield down all the way, It just wouldn't fit in the fairing. So in their hour of wisdom they made two windowletts on either side of the windshield to make up for it. Great tech and engine for sure, but I will take the previous version any day, it had better wind and rain protection, a strong proven engine, larger bags and a seat that was good to go for the long haul. It's almost like whoever resigned the Honda ST into the nightmare CTX 1300 did the same to the almighty Goldwing. I wouldn't staple this as a golden Honda moment in time. Oh wait..... I've got the answer...... bolt on wind deflectors, those always look nice, oh and a trunk rack to put the things on that you could have put in the trunk of the old version bike. Don't worry, Honda has you covered....they will all be available at your nearest Honda dealer for purchase and install. Keep on riding !

Not sure about this yet. Still on the bubble. Some things I don’t like are losing 1.1 gallons of gas, fuel economy up from 34-42.5 mpg, not much of a jump after losing 90lbs of weight. Airbag version is only available with the 7speed transmission, like the rest of us don’t count?? Not happy about losing cargo space, 150ltr-110ltr. Makes the difference of going away on a weekend vs a week. Honda could have kept the larger tank and cargo capacity. 10 gallons is a lot of space to lose. Just gave to wait til February to see the actual bike then decide if I want to go 2018 it stick with 2017 model.
