Excellent review - Ive had mine for about a month now, I made a few tweaks such as 16tooth counter sprocket, and now it is as smooth as the day is long! No complaints about the suspension but I dont push it super-hard either. GET this bike! Some reviews complain about throttle snatch but it seems to vary greatly from bike to bike and I can tell you that this has not been an issue for me and anyway it can be addressed through an ECU flash. So spend $350 on an ECU flash and a 16 tooth counter sprocket and you will have one of the smoothest and fun to ride motorcycles ever. No need to change the seat, bars, etc. After 1000 miles and an oil change it becomes "electric" smooth yet a total beast!

Great Review, Adam! My Brother's First Bike was a '76 KZ900...in this same 'root beer' brown metallic! SO...he ordered one as soon as the Dealer would take his order! Picked it up the evening of the day it came in! Their top mechanic has just done some Great Work on my Yamaha, and we got 'friendly' with the Service Department, so they jumped on assembling the bike as soon as it arrived. So my Brother picked it up on about January 4..!! And he has NOT been disappointed! He is Keeping his GSX-R750, but already LOVES the new Kawasaki!

This looks a great bike with many of the design cues taken from the 70s machine but what is not that obvious is just how much smaller this bike is than its older brother. This can be seen quite easily when you compare how much seat is left behind the rider on the new bike to that short footage of the original Z1, this is because the chassis is a tweaked version of Z900 chassis which is also a small machine. Now this might not be a problem to many but put a pillion on the back and it looks tiny. Having said all that it still looks a great bike what a pity it doesn't have the rear passenger grab rail as standard (I know you can buy it as an extra) or a centre stand like the original bike had.

I have the new z900 rs it may not have as long seat as the origanal bike but this bike is bigger in body. It is a gpod bike easy to ride, plenty of power but the engine appears to be working hard at 80mph but still got plenty to go before you get to the red line. Its low geared . Back break doesnt do much. front is ok untill you go down a steep hill then you are having work it a bit to work effectively. It does look good and it does go well but i wouldnt want to go for a long trip. low geared, seat a bit firm and you would need a screen on for wind protection. it is good for the short 1hr blast and does have that grunt and decent acceleration and handles quite good.. I dont like the dunlop tyres.

The new Z sure feels big when you have that tank between your legs. I’m 5’8, so I feel like the bike fits me well.

One thing on the suspension. It should be fully adjustable so you can make it firm and bump damping

You're wrong greg; you're referring to the two stroke triples
@SuperGinkgo5 жыл бұрын
Yep totally agree Greg, the engine was superb and didn't leak oil unlike its rivals back then, but the frame always let it down when pushed. Bendy, wibbly, wobbly so UK guys would put the motor in a Rickman frame like they would with Nortons, Triumphs, BSA's etc. In fact most frames on any bike from 40 years ago were lacking, especially at the limit.

And the advise about some Dirt Bike experience is good for ALL beginning riders! In Fact...ROSSI and MOST of the MotoGP and other Top Riders ride DIRT during the off season! It is good Skill Training for ALL Riders...even big heavy cruisers. Being able to 'react' to a little tire slide -- rain, loose dirt on the street, tar snakes, etc -- rather than PANIC can Save your Life! And yes, an SV650 or Ninja650 or something similar will give you LOTS of enjoyment as you gain miles of experience, before you go to a 450lbs 115HP bike. And if you ride with friends that don't try to push you to ride 'over your skill level' you can really enjoy an upper-mid-range bike! You can even get a Lot out of a Track Day or 2...just use it for Skills Training, and don't be bothered by the bikes that pass you and try to push too hard... Use the track to learn Braking Control and how to trust your tires and smooth transition from braking to acceleration...
@gianniforonda58427 жыл бұрын
Thank you guys for the input I really appreciate it and yes! I think I'll get a SV650 instead, tested my friends SV650 and it wasnt scary to ride it at all plus the power doesn't scare you from nowhere. Thanks again guys.

As you said if you want a bike to put in your shed to stare at and admire its retro design then you are spot on with your review, but a bike with average suspension, short gearing and dare I say an uncomfortable seat, then it's probably better left in the garage than ridden on the road.
@BucketWheat7 жыл бұрын
It isn't meant to be a 'track bike with lights' if is a Street Bike for long hours of comfortable 'sporty' riding. Adam didn't say the seat was "uncomfortable" he said it was too SOFT for his taste for aggressive riding! The gearing matches what the bike is intended for...not running 175 on a Race Track. The first gear is sort of 'extra low' for easy take-off, and the top gear is a little 'extra high' for lower RPMs on the highway and better mileage, and the 4 in the middle are set to hit the 'sweet spot' of engine power and torque...that isn't 'short gearing' it is gearing for the intended riding. My FZ1 is much the same...power and torque at lower RPM range, but geared to take advantage of that on the streets. Yes, top gear takes me to 170+ on the Track...but when I chase my WERA Racing friends around the mountains I exit the curves with quicker acceleration because my middle gears are right in the power band. Sure they can leave me behind on Road Atlanta ... but I hold my own in the mountains...and in the little impromptu 'Drag Races' we do occasionally on an empty country highway...up to about 140mph when they hit Their Powerband... So...all I am saying is to buy/ride the bike that fits your type of riding. But every bike is a 'compromise' based on what you want to do with it. If you want a Race Bike with lights, don't bother with a "Retro Bike"... NONE of them are going to give you that kind of ride, and still be Comfortable on the street for hours and hours of 'sporty' riding. Maybe you just need to re-paint ( or 'wrap') an R1M in root beer brown metallic paint... smile.
