I've owned my 17 XD cummins for 1 year. I tow a 36' 5th wheel and love it. Prior to the Nissan I had a Tundra and a Chevy 2500. The Titan out tows both of my previous trucks. The Titan is smooth, powerful for towing and my average mpg has been 15.8 over the year and 24,500. miles. Keep in mind the Titan weighs in at 8,800 lbs. As a comparison, the Ford f350 weighs in at about 8,000. While towing my 9,500 lb 5th wheel the Titan doesn't break a sweat. It really is effortless. The Titan frame has zero flex, unlike the tundra. Two thumbs up to the Titan! ;

This truck is technically a 3/4, according to its GVW. It is rated as a class 2B which means according to the DOT (and insurance companies!!) that it is a 3/4. That being said, I towed a 38' travel trailer 18,000 miles across the country including two trips across the continental divide in Montana. No problems towing or while towing. It was perfectly stable and didn't sway any more than any of the other 3/4 - 1 tons towing as we went through windy Wyoming.

I tow a 36’ travel trailer with my 2017 Titan XD Pro4x Gas and it doesn’t break a sweat. Trailer has a gvwr of 9900lb. This is my 3rd Titan and won’t be my last. Can’t beat the warranty ( never had to use one on any of my Titans) and Love the fact that not every other vehicle on the road is a Titan ( unlike F150 or Ram). Very under rated as far as I’m concerned.

Hello. I have had my 2019 xd for 2 years. I am retired and pull a 28 foot 9,000 pound 5th wheel. I've traveled 25,000 miles each year. Mine pulls perfectly. It is also much guieter. Pulling 9,000 Pound 5th wheel my fuel milage is always more than 11mpg lots of 12.5. Also after you have 6 lugs what does 2 more do? Compare the size of the brakes. These are huge. The transmission is strong and the rear differential is from Nissan's van. I've pulled from coast to coast and over mountains. This truck has never struggled. It has 550 foot pounds of torque. If you need more chip it. That increases torque to over 740 . 2 years over 48,000 miles. Pulling is one thing stopping is another. We put new tires on at 47,000 miles. Brake pads started at 8 mil. Now at 6mil. IMPRESSIVE. I traded a ram 3500 on this truck. I was looking for a new ram 2500. This was $14,000 cheaper. That's 5600 gallons of fuel. Nice on a fixed budget. Just thinking.

I am glad you say this is your opinion. I don’t know how old you are or can even recall the trucks from the 90’s but a 3/4 ton truck barely had a 12,000 tow rate. Or did you forget that for years the big 3 as you say has always tried to make heavy half’s! Such as the big 10, 1500HD, F-150 camper special. So you need to eat a few of your words when you say that this truck can’t handle the heavy loads of towing, and a 12,000 tow rate is very respectable number. If have a standard RV 5th wheel that is 27 to 30 feet this is plenty of truck for the job.i recall gross for trailers of the 90’s usually ran in 10 to 11 for 27 to 30 feet trailers. Also remember if you get those 350 and 450 there is a heavy road rate penalty to pay when tagging or titling a truck. So to close this out all buyers need to learn about tow ratios, gear ratios, horsepower and torque. Because a 3/4 with 3.42 gears is going to feel incompetent of tow vrs the same truck with 3.73 or 4.10 gears but I never hear you say anything of those subjects. This guy is all about buy big other than knowledge of what’s in the truck. These are just facts and not opinions just saying.

Nissan is always willing to deal just got my XD in that trim for 55,200$ out the door including tax etc. You will never get that kind of value from the big 3 in a truck with that trim and capability. I only have the I will never buy a Nissan truck people and biased reviewers to thank! Concerning capability, you get the most bang for your buck with the Titan XD!

You wanna see a nice interior......sit in a new ford, ram, or GM. The Nissan is a new competitor in the segment and they are honestly not bringing anything new to the segment. Yes they have the best warranty as of 2017, but other than that what else do the offer than the competition? Nothing... to me nissan already failed with this truck. They need to be innovators not followers. To sell trucks they need to understand truck buyers. We will see if they get it right next go around.

Thing about the titan XD is though its not alot more than a half ton as far as the numbers, it will tow alot more effortlessly as it is more stable than a typical half ton, so while its not a 3/4 ton, it will handle bigger loads better than a half ton will. Its definitely an in between for thise whondont want a full 3/4 ton nut want a little extra than a typical half ton. Sure, the F150 ecoboost is rated to tow the same, if not more, its the stability and ease that makes this the better towing vehicle regardless if the ecoboost gets up tonspeed faster or not. It'll definitely get better fuel economy with a load than a gas burner. I like that there is an in between option now because I wouldn't necessarily want to live with a full on 3/4 ton. The nissan rides better, handles better than a 3/4 ton but also handles loads better than a half ton, so if you want a little more capability than a half ton but dont want to live with a full 3/4 ton this truck makes perfect sense.

I recently purchased a used 2016 Titan XD with the gas 5.6L. It doesn't pull as well as my old F350, but it's much more comfortable as a daily driver. For towing capability, I just needed something that can tow 2 horses in a reasonably light trailer or a couple motorcycles on a utility trailer. It's heavier than the big 3 in the 1/2 ton segment which makes it feel more confident with some weight behind it.

a lot of inaccurate information in this video. this truck wasn't made for just "small travel trailers" or small goosenecks. you can easily tow 30' trailers without breaking a sweat. the Cummings diesel with the aisin 6 speed transmission makes this truck a beast.

These get very similar power output as the early common rail 5.9 engines which made 305 hp/555 tq in 2003-2004.0 on the Rams. With the XD I think Nissan was trying to beat the 3/4 tons on ride smoothness and mpg while beating the 1/2 ton competition on towing.

I can pull at 72 and get 11 to 11.4 mpg. I work on the road and pull my trailer everywhere. It'll pull hills without a issue. My only complaint is the 26 gallon tank and the amount it regens. Let's just say it has surprised me on what it will do.

As is the case with most things insurance related they eventually get all the money back from you on these events due to increased premiums even when it is a no fault. I’ve pulled very heavy trailers with no issue. The engine is very quiet and very decent on fuel. (I was hoping for better, but it’s stop and go all day) The warranty was the topper, 5/100k for something that really gets used. I don’t abuse it, but I use it, just like I did my Tundra. It’ll be interesting to see how it holds up. So far so good. Nice job Nissan

I’ll give my take on the Titan XD from an owners perspective. Maybe this will sway people too or away? From a driving standpoint in stock trim it drives very nice as it should. The caveat is I have experienced on going irritant type squeaks and rattles, some which have been addressed others not even the dealer can fix thus far. In regards to the 5Liter Cummins. It’s a very capable motor with decent full efficiency. I average mid 17mpg for 2 years now and I don’t drive it hard like some young buck might do. The motor is definitely quiet though there is still a notable diesel rumble after the engine does break in, so it does get a little louder in the cab overtime as the motor loosens up. The Negative of this engine/trans package is Nissan just can’t figure how to tune it right. The truck has really bad turbo lag so knowing how to extract good acceleration is key though even foreknowledge doesn’t always help. Hauling: I’ve hauled around the max of the truck which is 12k for my model and the truck/engine/trans really didn’t care that it was back there. I am very impressed at how well it pulled it’s near max weight. Without a doubt this would be preferred over any half ton gas or diesel to pull comparable weight. The truck has a lot of heft and the Cummins just loves to work so that’s a good recipe for confident hauling. Without a doubt I’m sure if you were so inclined the truck could easily handle higher trailer weights with the limitation being the payload capacity and axle/wheel aka 6-lug wheels. It’s a nice truck, has a bold look, it’s not dine a dozen on the road. Nissan has some work to do but I do have the first year model. Problems: My power steering is on the way out. They seem to have QC issues with their driver side mirrors. They rattle like crazy and even after a dealer replacement the second one was worst than the first. The truck likes to clunk from the drivetrain when driving slow in trans jumps from 1-2 so knowing how to avoid that helps as an owner. It regens more often than any other HD diesel truck from what I’ve gathered. Factory Grabber A/T tired are the worst tires ever. They wear so prematurely, it’ll sound like you have Old School Boggers. My tires have 30k on them and some will need to be changed soon and that’s with regular rotation.

I test drove several Titan XD Platinum crew cabs before buying my F250 King Ranch. The payload capacity on all of them, according to the sticker inside the door jam, were all around 1,400 lbs, nowhere near the 2300 that Nissan claims. And that’s on par or slightly lower, in some cases, than most 1/2 tons trucks including the regular Titan. Personally, I like the look of the Titan XD inside and out but the capability and price put Nissan out of the competition. Getting an F250, in my opinion, was a no brainer.

I pull my 35 foot travel trailer (8000 pounds) with no problem. Truck stays level with WDH. Going up hill not as fast as I like, but I can still do 65mph going up. I have the XD Cummins. I also put bikes in the bed and 5 adults in the cabin. I went with the Titan XD because I only pull a handful of times a year... all the other days it is comfortable ride versus the bigger trucks that have a rougher ride without pulling something.

I like the XD and own one. But to correct a fallacy you perpetuate here, this is a 3/4 Ton. That is dictated by the DOT by weight. These trucks are HEAVIER than the other 2500s and have comparable GVWRs. The GVWR is what makes a truck a 1/2 ton, 3/4, etc. This one falls squarely in the 3/4 Ton weight bracket.

I think you need some more knowledge on the "1/2 ton tow able" 5th wheels. I just purchased a Highland Ridge LF291RLS which has a pin weight of 1305, and a UVW of 7840. I pull this with a 2015 Ford F150 5.0L, which has 385 hp., and 387 ft.lbs. torque. Yes I am at the upper limits of the truck when loaded with a full tank of gas. When loaded the squat on the truck is 2.5 inches. 40" empty, 37.5" loaded, and although I probably didn't need them, today I install a pair of Sumo Springs. This will probably give me 1 to 1 1/2 inches of squat back. I pull this rig at 62 mph, the same as my previous travel trailer with similar weight. This 5er tows better than the TT. Would I be better suited with a 3/4 or 1 ton? Absolutely. But I feel with my setup, my driving habits, and my planned use, 1 trip to Florida from Illinois in the fall, and return in the spring (non-mountain route) this truck will suffice. If at any time I feel unsafe or the truck not capable, then I will consider the truck upgrade.

Love my Titan XD with Cummings been auto body repair tech for over 35 years taken many trucks apart to the bones. Ford Chevy Chrysler even Toyota fall short on build quality.. I co own a heavy 24 foot boat and my buddies F150 is whipped from towing the boat this truck it’s like it’s not even attached. Rides like A 150 tows like a 2500. Nissan did research found many ppl wanted truck that can tow heavier moved from 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton hated the stiff ride and went back to 1/2 ton. So they blurred the line. Great move.

I think this review misses some critical points- It has a lot of 3/4 ton parts, but it is not a true 3/4 ton... BUT- in terms of hauling, it is superior to ANY other 1/2 ton on the market, and many 3/4 tons. It is overbuilt, and the fit and finish is the best in the market. It weighs 7000 lbs empty, but has the best fuel milage of any truck in its class. The wind does not push you around, it handles like a sports car (as trucks go), and when you slap a 12,000 lb trailer on the back, it has nearly no effect on your fuel milage. I have had trucks for all my life, driven a lot of trucks at work, this is the most comfy, well thought out truck I have ever had my hands on.

Your friend is just the kind of truck person I can't stand. Trucks are like any other product on the market, not everyone wants or needs the same level of capability, so there's something out there for every kind of buyer. Some only need a DIY truck for household tasks, for which a Frontier or even a Ridgeline would be fine. Other buyers need to tow a hot rod to car shows, like you said, for which this Titan would be perfect. Other buyers might need to tow massive farm equipment, so they'd need an F-350 or equivalent. Simply put, ALL trucks are real trucks and which way to go just depends on what you'll do with it. I'm tired of size queens who say only the biggest trucks are real trucks, it's just nonsense.

I personally own a pro 4X XD with the Cummins engine and I can tell you from experience this truck tows 10,000 plus pounds way better and with more confidence than the 2015 Ram 2500Hd 6.4 hemi i had previously! And with my air lift 5000 plus rear air bags at empty zero air pressure the truck only has 1 inch of rear suspension sag with my 28 foot bumper pull travel trailer behind it, without weight distribution bars. The ram had over 2 inches of sag with the exact same trailer behind it. Bottom line is i disagree that this truck competes with the half ton market, but it definitely competes closer with the gas powered 3/4 tons. Also the Cummins engine pulls like a freight train I would put it up against a 6.7 Cummins any day towing 10,000 -12,000 pounds

Jmr roe, I’m not surprised your coil sprung ram sagged more than your leaf sprung truck with the same tongue weight. I have one 2016 # 3524 (PR) off the line and 41K in miles so far so good. Engine and transmission are on oil analysis; doing great. It has been to Dead Horse, Alaska and down to Austin, TX. It is a great highway cruiser, quiet and very comfortable. Preforms well in the snow, rain and ice. Very heavy vehicle 7500 pounds with full tank of diesel. I really did not need a 3/4 ton vehicle and the TITANXD fills the bill perfectly. The wife does not like to drive it too big, heavy and you need a light foot on the throttle. The bad; resale value.

Something not mentioned here, is that with rebates you can leave the parking lot around 45K for an SL XD diesel with double the warranty (10 year). Its not the Plat but it still has more features than a King Ranch because Nissan, finished the back seat with under seat storage, and sprays in bed liner and tosses in the cargo boxes. So for 45K you get XD SL Deisel with 10 Year Warranty that performs close to the 250 mark, but about 20K cheaper than a 150. That is why I own one. It was simple economics and a company that hands you a truck I don't need to run out and put another 3K into to finish my bed or back seat with. Plus Nissan stands behind their products that are made in America more so than the "Big 3"

Some fun news I learned about this truck is, the axle is out of the heavy duty vans (basically a 3/4ton axle) out of Nissans line up(also see the power wagon 2500 axless-they're the same) and the Aisin Transmission is the A466ND same as the Dodge rated to tow 30,000lbs. So in closing, it's over built. Probably why they have the long warranty. Cheers.

Perhaps I missed it, but I didn’t hear you talk about the trucks 7400 lb weight. Approx same weight as a brand new F-350 SRW which means it’ll handle better than a 1/2 ton in the winds on the interstates while towing. Not sure why your towing recommendations are for trailers less than 27ft....? Tongue weight and overall tow weight are more important limitations of the 5/8 ton Titan XD. Also, you kinda touched on the leaf springs but too bad you didn’t have anything to load into it. The Titan XD may not be rated high for payload but it barely squats with weight. Similar to a 3/4 ton, but missing some lugs. Physically, the truck is much closer to being a 3/4 ton with less power rather than a 1/2 ton. On paper, it’s rated capabilities are only 1/2 ton. Even when you compare ride comfort it rides about the same as a 2017 F-350. A true 1/2 ton like an F-150 rides buttery smooth, which the XD just can’t compete with that.

The other benefit to this truck with the diesel is it’s weight. The big 3 are making their half ton trucks lighter which is not good for towing a heavier trailer. If the trailer weighs more than your truck it will sway when on the highway.

well there are a lot of comments about 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. Just look at the specs of a 3/4 ton dodge, ford or chevy back in 1998. At least this motor was pushing out more power than a 3/4 ton in 1998. I'm not saying it is a 3/4 ton, I have a 2500 duramax and love it. One of my favorite parts of he truck is the LED signature marker and Headlight. It's unique and definitely not generic looking. The Interior of mine is (the luxury package) as nice if not nicer than some of the competition and I cross shopped before I bought, each had their own quirks. My brother in-law was super surprised at the size of the interior compared to his full-size domestic. I think people (many) don't realize this is a full size truck. The under seat storage is also lockable. Around view monitor, which is a great parking aid. Gonna drive one? If not, do it. You might like it. ;) In closing, this is a heavy half ton, more capable for towing on long trips than say a half ton by Ford with the eco boost, Chev's 5.3 and not sure about the Dodge, though the weak springs in the back make them all around, too soft.

Very good video I’m gonna purchase one of these in the next 8months. So true this truck was not designed to take over or compete with the Heavy Duty segment trucks. It was a guy on the forum complaining about how the regular 2017 Nissan Titan/ how it was towing his 23ft-27ft travel trailer . My question to him was why didn’t you get a XD or a Dodge, Chevy, or Ford heavy duty to tow a travel trailer that large. My honest opinion is know what you are going to do with the truck before you purchase it. Than look for a truck to do that job! I’m a Nissan Fan for life had my 2004 since I pulled it off the dealership lot and it’s been f¥€king AWSOME!

I completely disagree with the his towing weight assumption. I have a 11,000 lb (dry) Fifth wheel and it pulls and rides perfect, I have the stock 5th wheel adapter that Nissan offers for the XD. I feel this truck is very under rated on its pulling capability and I could easily add more weight and feel very comfortable on the hwy. I've maxed out the 1/2 tons before and they squat like crazy and feel very squishy after the 7000lb mark. With this thing at max I can barely tell i'm towing. Note: I'm at 30,000k miles, no issues so far after a year of use. I went into this buying this as an upgrade to an older 2500 and i'm very please with it (except I now have to use DEF). At the time of the purchase there was a 10,000 off discount, I added Nav & tech(comfort and convenience pkg) to the SV crew model, and they added the 100k warranty in 2017. I got it for around 44,000 no trade. I couldn't find any other diesel truck with full nav & tech at that price. I also want to say I know it does not compare with the current 2500's, but I'm not using this as a work truck so i didnt need the extra hauling/power capabilities they come with.

Cool, thanks for looking at these trucks. The "XD" is kind of an odd truck, since it floats between a half ton and 3/4 ton. Its kind of half ton, but not. But its not 3/4 ton either. I can see why Nissan built the XD. They are trying to fill a spot in the market that might appeal to buyers who want something capable, but may not need a full 3/4 ton truck. I'm not a fan of the looks of the truck, and that Platinum Reserve trim didn't look as nice as as the competition high end trims. Also, that XD is really heavy. It weighs quite a bit more than a traditional half ton.

IF you compare specifically these options among the big 3.... a truck that includes CREW CAB, 4x4, DIESEL, w/o dual wheel... the numbers really tighten up and the Titan only falls short of the F250 by about 1200 lbs or less. (but the titan does weigh more) So in this category the poster in my opinion is mistaken about it not being able to compete with the big 3.
