Anyone has the ability to know alot about alot or little bout nothing. All depends on how much time you want to spend working with the stuff, reading service information, absorbing it. The ability to decipher alot of the service information is there for the taking when if you work in a shop and every shop has service information available for makes, models across the markets. People ask me at times how do you know so much about so many brands of vehicles. I tell them all shops subscribe, pay, if dealer get it from mfr so we have to go look the proper information up. Some people just think we're geniuses. OH wait we are as long as you know how to do what the hell ur doing..... Industry knowledge, years of being in the industry you see various stuff if you hit the Indy shops...

Tips for modern diesels: ALWAYS DELETE, and if you don't plan on doing that or building the truck, then lease (or trade in before warranty is up). I'm sure this engine and the turbo assembly would last 3-4x as long as it did stock if it wasn't breathing in a bunch of debris its whole life. Also the Titan XD isnt a 3/4 ton truck, its more like a half ton (I've heard people call it a 5/8ths ton) but many people push the little titan too hard and blow it up

I remember looking into these trucks, and size wise it's like a 1 ton, drivetrain is that of a 3/4 ton. But I seen the frame on it, and it's kind of pathetic. I've seen thicker frames on 1/2 tons. So yes 5/8 ton seems like the best classification.

As a shop owner and we specialize in diesel I’ve seen it all. The new lp5 Duramax trucks are trash, the 6.7 Powerstrokes are trash and the Cummins has it’s issues but is by far the best mechanically in the Ram platform. @@andreanastacio9548 That makes no sense at all - Nissan sold the vehicle and therefore have the responsibility for supporting the customer - I'm not sure if Cummins supplied the turbo system or just the long block, but regardless, it's Nissan's fault if they didn't order enough parts from whoever the turbo manufacturer was to support a truck that's been out of production for less than 2 years. By your logic since almost every car on the market has multiple parts supplied by 3rd party manufacturers, no car company can be held to blame if you can't get parts for their cars unless they make the part in house. That's just not how the customer relationship works. Renault group have an appalling after market support reputation, and they are now ruining their child brands Nissan and Mitsubishi in the same way.

@@Daemonarch2k6 You know that the intakes on diesel engines with EGR are supposed to be cleaned thoroughly every 150.000Km to avoid problems like this one right? It's basically considered maintenance. One that most people don't do until the car has problems. It's because of the EGR and FAP and all that crap, but the EGRs have been around for more than 20 years now. On gasoline engines is not as bad as with the diesel ones, but it still gets dirty and cause problems. I wonder how that truck was driven, because normally it's because people drive like old grandmas all the time and causes that build up. Nonetheless, since the FAP was introduced diesel engines have suffered a lot of problems. Ok i think some follow up is due because the comments being made in this video is missing some key points here. All diesel trucks including fords, ram, and duramax will have turbos get plugged up with soot just like this when the dpf plugs. The dpf plugs because of regen issues or def fluid delivery that doesnt help burn the soot out of the dpf. To keep this from happening you do need to make trips at freeway speed for some distance and hope regen is happening properly. Additionally the 5.0l is very common in commercial applications so when looking for parts it is better to go direct to cummins dealer rather than nissan.
@ssllhh100

its just bad engineering, from the crankcase vent that dumps oil into the intake when the engine is under load (its supposed to only take oil vapour but dirty oil foams up under load) to the EGR that fills the intake with carbon deposits, to the DPF/cat that gets dirty and over heats the oil in the turbo, the dirty intercooler can't keep up, intake temps go up, EGTs go up ... and its downhill from there
@gingerd2098

I know that most modern diesels gum up like this. I have read that it has something to do with the type of oil used with the DPF filters. The older oils weren’t as much of an issue with the engine but would plug up a DPF filter. The modern oils, even though they are synthetic really need to be changed at 3000K mile intervals because of the sludge they produce.
@ssllhh100
@ssllhh100 3 жыл бұрын
@@slowdaze more about the soot content in the diesel and how often and how hot you can get the CAT and DPF to clear them, its just the wrong solution for the problem, from EGR to DPF and CAT, you're trying to solve the emissions of incomplete combustion, lean produces NOx, rich produces fuel particulates, so its all about having the right tune and keeping EGTs in check, also they need to control the flow of air instead of react to it, its just bad engineering from the start

I really feel for Jared on this one. I took a 5 week, 15000 mile road trip through the 48 contiguous states and I started the trip with a 2005 Ford Escape. I broke down in the middle of rural Texas and lost compression in cylinder #2. I could have waited for the shop to figure out why it lost compression and get it fixed, but it would have taken a week and I would have had to bail on a trip that I spent a year planning. Made the hard decision to leave the car at the shop and buy a new car, a super clean 2001 Chevy Suburban with lower miles and it has been the best vehicle I've owned.

I had the 2016 version of this truck, and had the linear actuator that operates the turbos fail as well. Went to my local dealership in Portsmouth VA, and there were none in stock. Called down in Florida and had one overnighted to me. Swapped it (took it to the dealership to program the limits) and it was good, for about 700 miles. Started hearing some weird noises from the turbos and didn't want to chance it. Found out back then (June or July of 2018) that they were on national backorder, and CFT hadn't released their single turbo setup at the time. Next day I traded it in on a Tundra. I miss the comfort of the truck, but glad I got rid of it.

Redesign to future proof any diesel. Block off the factory EGR port on the exhaust manifold and EGR water cooling if it has it then run a bit of exhaust pipe and tap into the exhaust behind the DPF But before the Cat / add blue thingy and connect the pipe into where the EGR valve is so that it now provides filtered air cooled exhaust gasses and not hot dirty gas. This system is used on some Caterpillar Diesel engines. It works well providing the turbo doesn’t provide more boost pressure at the times the EGR is open than is present in the exhaust. The EGR should not be open at those times however.

This is detrimental with soot buildup as engine doesn't build up enough heat. So far I have 15,000 hours of operation and haven't had to do any maintenance on DEF systems other than changing DEF pump tank filter. Lucas isn't cheap to be sure. But it's Hella lot cheaper than shop visits and downtime. Just my 2 cents.

Hi guys, I have diesel engine cars for a long time and one thing that I use to do for a years is to cancel or block the EGR valve which is the cause of the dirt, the EGR valve opens the exaust into the intake so, cancelling it will improve the engine performance a bit and keeps it clean for much longer... once I have to go to the anual inspection I take the blockage away and than re-block it once the inspection is over... easy

I feel your pain guys. I think COVID-land has exacerbated the issue of parts availability with this truck tremendously. By law a vehicle has to be supported for 10 years after discontinuance. I think a lot of the issues are with Nissan itself as they claim to be backordered but you can go on the internet and order yourself the part in a couple days. Cummins has been building V8 Diesels for years but I think this one is overly complicated and it shows. Everyone says it's an amazing truck when it's working. No one denies what Nissan tried to do (but for a lot of people who have experienced these issues) but failed. I do find it interesting though that there are thousands of Titan XD Cummins on the road with over 100K or 150K miles that don't seem to have issues with gumming up. If the issue of parts failing is due to soot, carbon and coking then all trucks should experience it. So what is the different between the ones that do and the ones that don't? I think these trucks are candidates for every fuel and oil additive in existence.
