Following the hype about the 200k I'd be super interested in a video comparing different brake settings. Like 0 spool tension & SVS as much as needed VS slow fall spool tension & SVS as much as needed (should be less SVS on the dial as with the first mentioned setting) Might be an interesting addition?

Are you using your thumb to feather during the cast? Are you stopping the spool with your thumb when the lure hits the water or are the brakes stopping it.

You should've read the manual. No tension knob adjustment and improper brake adjustment.

Well, I was on the fence regarding your casting performance in this video UNTIL I bought my own and paired it up with a EX6 from GLoomis. I have (2) 200DHSV and (1) 300E as my main reels, and its pure muscle memory, I might get a minor backlash twice in the 5 weeks I fish solid each year. When I tried the 200KXG the first time, minor backlashes on my first 2 casts. I had the brake internal set to 1 on, and 3.5 on the dial. Turns out, to feel comfortable casting (not ever thinking about a backlash because they don't happen), I had to have 2 internal brakes on, and even then that was with me still paying way too much attention to my cast mechanics. My plan was to fish it and only it for the first 3 days of my last trip, and by day 4 I was confident enough with it to bring in the 200D's for a side by side with the new reel. My first cast with the 200D (3 months since I last cast it) bounced of the dead-head log top I was casting at. I tried the 200K, 45 feet short (estimated) on a 135FT cast, same lure, same line, trying to put the same effort in each time. Try to back off the brakes, gain 10 feet, but now you are paying intense attention to the cast lest you run the risk of at least a minor overrun. Now my older Curados all have Boca ceramic ball bearings, that would account for some range, but they all have tens of thousands of casts on those bearings, I doubt they are like new. Thanks for the tip on the brake setting screw, too tight from the factory for sure. If I could walk into a store and trade my new 200KXG for a NOS 200DHSV, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I just got mine in 2019. It felt hard on the internal brakes to adjust. Like if I pushed hard on the plastic shoes they would break. When I get home ill have to try again. Was def at 0 and caused alot of backlash

LOL, the same thing happened to me a couple of times, with the same reason, too much free spool playing. How to you compare it to the Chronarch MGL? I mean, retrieve feel wise since they both use micro teeth. Same level of smoothness? BTW, what is the cause about the "don't go too hard on the new spool of line" that you mentioned earlier? I'm just curious. Looking forward to the I vs K shootout!

K retrieve feels a little more solid, probably because of the aluminum frame. Many times when I put fresh line on a reel and go fishing, I tried to throw a long bomb cast at first and birds nest so bad that I couldnt pick it out. So now I just throw a few side arm casts at first so the line can settle on the spool.

I already have shimano scorpion dc 2017 and I was thinking getting another one but when they released this curado200k I couldn't decide which one to buy. I will be using it mainly for frog,plopper,pompadour and jig fishing. which one is better? Can you do a comparison shimano scorpion dc VS shimano curado 200k? Which one cast further and easy to use ? Im going to be putting the K and the Scorpion through the same tests soon, but not head to head. but I can tell you that if given the choice Id take the scorpion because of its cool factor. both are smooth and refined. Since you already have one Id get a K because I like to have different reels. The Ks will surely show up on Ebay for less than retail in a couple of months just like the 200I did.

I think so, like I said in the unboxing vid, Shimano ships their reels usually with the amount of brake blocks activated for a relatively experienced baitcaster user to just go out and fish. Keep in mind the lures were pretty light too.

That is kind of the point. For someone that fishes from the shore 95% of the time distance is very important. If I can save that much and not lose any casting distance then I would be willing to give up some refinement.

I totally understand Jimmy, Im a bank beater just like you :) Ill tell you this much Jimmy, I weigh the spools for a reason. A good all around caster will generally have a lighter spool than average. As it stands the Met will probably easily beat the Curado with lures up to 1/2 oz. after that the difference may not be as much. Shimano purposely engineers their higher end reels to outperform their lower end reels.

I'm wondering why you are casting right handed, and then switching hands and also reeling in right handed. Why not buy left hand and stop switching all the time. Cast right and reel left.

I'm right hand dominant and use left handed reels Its superior. You get to cast and control the rod and lure with your dominant hand and arm while you use your left to crank. Zero switching hands. Glad I learned it that way.

I have never understood this either. It was how fly reels were set up in UK when fly fishing was reserved for country gentry and the right kind of gentleman. US and Australian anglers reel with right hand. I have never read or heard a rational explanation. Even the great Lefty Kreh only gave incoherent answers on this point. My sociological explanation is that it is a hangover from earlier taboos about using the left hand for anything. Using the left hand was literally 'sinister'. As soon as UK coarse fishermen discovered reservoir fly fishing in the 60s fly reels went to left hand wind. Baitcasting reels are mainly made for the more conservative US market, which is why we struggle to find LHW models. Far easier to find surf casting reels with LHW.

Why do people care about this kind of bullshit? It makes no sense. You’re yelling at over half of all guys who throw baitcasters....and for no reason. How many more fish would throwing a left handed reel catch you? I get bit maybe 20 times a year, tops, on the switch and catch/miss those fish with the exact same frequency as any other. Stop it, already. It’s more comfortable for most right handed people to reel a baitcaster with their right hand...end of story.
