I have used the SLX for 2 years and it's become one of my favorite reels in my lineup, it's extremely versatile, well built, and smooth on the retrieve. I actually won my first private tournament and caught majority of them with the SLX set up. I was looking to purchase a second and came across the Curado which costs roughly $100 CAD more. From fishing with it you can feel the biggest difference in the smoothness of retrieval, not sure why but the Curado definitely feels smoother to reel. Along with that it's made with better materials, although the SLX is very well built too. For casting, I'd say they're pretty much identical, as much as I wanted to see a big improvement to justify the price. I just wanted to own a Curado lol, most likely the next one will be an SLX because there's no need to spend 400 canadian on a reel

Thank you for the thorough video. I went with two DC's last season and will honestly admit, had a wonderful experience with them particularly on days when I was throwing light lures in some pretty poor, gusty conditions, which was most of the season on the lake I fish normally. My Calcutta's were bird's nest city many times on the water, but the DC just kept performing cast after cast. They were happy with whatever line I spooled up (from light floro to 50 lb. braid) and whatever lure I was tossing. Worth the dollars, in my opinion absolutely since I'd rather fish then repair line any day. I bought one retail, loved it, found a second online and saved a few dollars.

I own the curado dc now and had the slx previously, the curado imo is obviously the better of the two. After thousands of casts on both now, I can clearly say that the curado is wayyy more smoother and casts further then the slx. Save your money and get the curado, you won’t regret it. Plus the finish on the curado looks very nice!

I own both, not much of a difference. Now time will tell with durability, curado has 0 issues after 2 years. Slx I just got this year and abused just like the curado and so far so good

So question I just bought this reel! And I love it but let’s say I’m running either braid or fluoro whatever. Can I switch to the number 1 or number 4 since those call for specific techniques as long as I got my tension spool knob adjusted correctly? I only ask because I lm running fluoro and I have it like 2.5 and I was skipping east I tied something else on left it there adjusted my tension a little bit and got really nice distance. I wanna learn as much as possible for sure that’s why I ask

as someone who has never even owned a baitcaster, ignoring the rod, is there a max weight i can use on the bait? Im on the lookout for a new combo for pike fishing and im thinking about the SLX DC. Anyone with experience and opinions?

There really isn't max weight. Just the weight of the lure will affect distance. I mean a 2lb swimbait might be too much lol

If your going for pike and throwing heavier lures definitely go with the curado it’s definitely built better and has less of a chance breaking on you but you can’t go wrong with either they are both well made but I’ve seen videos of people catching red drum on the curado dc and drum fight even harder then pike

Been using the SLX DC here in the UK for a while great reel for casting 7.5g+ lures anything less I find hard and it can get a bit messy on the spool. Was hoping someone would bring out a bfs shallow spool for the DC but so far its not looking promising. Keep up the good work. We need a English review on the Diawa 2019 millionaire.

Having a hard time deciding what reel I want to buy. either the Shimano curado DC Shimano SLX DC 13 Fishing concept Z slide Technical wize, I know all the differences. I don't have any place to look at them in person to feel if they're all the same size in your palm I don't want a super large reel. Any help would be appreciated and trying to figure this out . why do you flip to offhand when reeling in? if you cast wit strong hand isnt it better to fight fish with it as well ?

I have both the SLX (non-DC) and the Curado DC. The SLX is problematic if you're not careful as the cover plate occasionally falls off when I inadvertently hit switch which slides too easily. The Curado DC does not have the switch but paint job seems to be more easily scratched. I bought reel covers for both to prevent scratching the paint job. Use SLX for bait casting and the SLX on a medium heavy rod for top water and crank baits.

Man. My SLX cover that I bought a month ago hates its cover coming off. It takes way more force that theres no chance whatsoever that im going to accidentally switch it to open. I can chalk that up to differences in manufacturing.

My slx cast farther than my curado. No idea why. But I’ve gone back and forth so many times because it just doesn’t seem natural. Costs so much more. I don’t get it. And to be honest they’re both great reels so who cares.

The verses are actually talking about making idols. Verse 5 says they can't speak and have to be carried. A lot of times these verses are mistaken for Christmas, which also is man made and of pagan origin.

I have both but rarely use them now since I have multiple metanium mgl B which are way lighter. They are both great but to me both feel the same no difference. Get the slx dc.

First Ive heard of that but it wouldnt surprise me. Maybe they will use the Bantam tooling but made of magnesium? Possibly because the thinner MGL 3 spool may be able to house the DC brake magnets, but your guess is as good as mine

My buddy was raving about his new Antares DC HG on a Colombia peacock trip in January. A few months later I found a lefty for about 550 shipped from Japan, they had one more right handed so he grabbed that one, they're sick reels. I still love the buttery smooth '16 Antares HG but it's a bit heavier, probably why it's the smoothest thing you'll ever fish. Haven't tried the new Steez yet but stripped out gears on a Zillion with a smaller fish so kinda hesitant to change up as none of my fished hard Shimanos have had any issues. The Curado DC is great and friends with the SLX DC love them, both hard to beat bang for the buck.

@@quinnlarkin3518 I have a few Curado Ks and fish em hard fresh and saltwater, 50 or 65 Maxcuatro line. Ripping 7" prop baits all day in the Amazon is tough on reels and we always take a few Curados, never an issue. The Antares are rigged with a Crystal Minnow or something more forgiving, hate to beat on em when a $150 reel works just fine. So many great choices nowadays at just about any price point you can't go wrong.

@@THEREELTEST Agreed, the new one is smaller than the '16 but still no midget as a low profile reel. Picking up the MGXtreme afterwards it feels like a toy. I do a fair amount of saltwater down here in South Florida so use larger reels too which makes any of those seem like a little feather (the new gray Ocea Jigger is just magic and takes half the work out of cranking up big pelagic).

noobs purchase cheapest reels to learn. dcs are not inviting for trial and error noobs. skilled casters dont need the assistant microchip. the soundsignature is the sole value adder for advansed casters. this will be the loaner for skilled casters who dont want to waist time solving birdsnest on the water.

Clearly you haven't spent quality time on the water with dc reels. There are unquestionable advantages to dc reels. I do love the sound but thats not a factor at all in why I use alot of dc reels. Its the casting performance and over all worry free experience of using dc reels. A dc reel is not necessary to fish but it has significant advantages to standard braking systems. I just find it absolutely hilarious that you listed the dc sound as the reason people buy dc reels. Lol.
