My dad just bought one of these and man I was surprised at the turbo lag of this thing. Maybe it''s just because I've never driven a turbo before and I'm used to the instant torque of an NA. I mean I give throttle and literally for like 2 second barely anything happens. Do I just need to rev it harder before I start releasing the clutch? That seems kinda counter intuitive. Edit: I don't mean flooring it of course, just giving it a bit more revs so the turbo can get working. Update: yeah it took a bit of getting used to the turbo but now I get the appeal, it gives so much torque to such a small petrol engine (ours is a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder one) and the noises are actually awesome when you rev it. I still definitely prefer NAs tho, lol

sudoaptpurge interesting point you made. I had the Audi A1 with the same TSI engine, from new, and although the engine was tight I also found there was definitely a lack of momentum when changing gear, and think this is down to losing revs when you put the clutch down, so it has to build up the pressure again. Three cylinder turbos are notorious for this, and in my Swift turbo the only way to eradicate this is to not rev it too hard, change up quickly within the power band, or if you need to overtake, change down a gear but make sure if your revs are high, change gear quickly and don't floor it. These engines don't seem to like a heavy right foot or you get that awful gap again, waiting to pick up acceleration. Some brands better than others but it must be a three cylinder quirk.

I own a 2012 Fabia 1.4 manual petrol, really similar. I think they should make them a bit wider with larger wheels and robust suspension, the car jumps on every little hole in the ground. I had to change the stabilizer shaft and there are still cranking around. It would also make the handling much easier and a more stable ride, car's a bit high for it's class. also, it gets really loud driving more than 80 Km/hr.

I agree that holding only one hand loosly on the steering wheel is dangerous. You have virtually no control in the event of an emergency. As for nobody holding their hands on the wheel at the classic “ten-to-two”, lots of people do this, it is good driving practice.

Nice! My 14 year old Skoda Fabia 1.2 is now showing its age, and this is the car I would replace it with. Trouble is, endless austerity is damaging our economy, work is badly paid and unreliable and any attempt to borrow money or lease a car would be met by a lot of laughing from the far side of the desk. I have a Polo with 1.2 TSI from 2015 and I love it. 73.000 km passed and it still works like new. :)

1.2 tsi engines were NOT reliable. Read the Honest John website. These new 3 cylinder engines are bulletproof and far more efficient. They also dont sound strained when accelerating, unlike some small 4 cylinder engines.

@@robinkonig5828 1,2 TSI engines are reliable. I know many people with a VW Polo or a Skoda Fabia and a 1,2 TSI engine. Had a Skoda Fabia 3 with a R4 TSI myself and it was a good engine. Changed it to a Octavia with 2,0 TDI, but I still like it. Many people drive more than 200000 km with R4 TSI. Don't believe everything what angry people write in internet forums

beacuse of the power of it has. I have 2017 Fabia 1.0 tsi 7-speed dsg and the engine of mine produce 110hp and 200Nm torque. I see 850rpm when idle.
