That girl Alba has developed into the side(wo)man each and every band needs. She amazes me. I have played the Bari quite a bit myself and I know it is not an easy instrument to make music on. You need a lot of lung capacity and obviously a lot of talent, practice and musicality. I remember Alba playing the curved soprano and the alto. She has taken quite a step up since then. I love to listen to her and I feel comforted when I see her sit there on stage with that big horn; the foundation for the saxes is in good hands with her.

Alba Esteban is already a very “sophisticated lady”. She deserves to be featured as a true soloist. Her baritone playing is remarkable. she plays beautifully all saxophones and on soprano sax is the only living player I know of who can reproduce the exact tone of Bechet. We need a CD of Alba E playing the repertoire of Bechet. The SAJB could back her as Quintette du Hot Club de France and Èlia Bastida play Django. SORRY ! Carla could play Django ! Èlia could play any or all of the instruments she plays so well !

Alas, though they will have their role models (transscripting is an important part of their education), I love to think that they are individuals, living with juvenile energy, and that they develop their own personality and style during their time in the band. They won't copy the lives of Django or Stephane or Ella or Bessy, so they won't become copies of them. I rather see Alba and Elia, Carla and Andrea (not to forget the boys) learn from them and stay their own - with their voices and their instruments, they are good enough to be adored themselves!

I loved the lovely warm tone Alba achieved in her solo. As she's grown the size of the saxophones she's played have kept pace. I still enjoy her playing soprano in the video of "Si tu vois ma mere" which showed her potential at that young age.

In the first place, what a beautiful but difficult arrangement. It takes such control to pull it off and yet that's exactly whatt you delivered. In the second place, what a tour de force by Alba. The baritone can be a beast, I know from my own experience, yet she controls it beautifully and elegantly. Pity almost that she was not the soloist on the improvised chorusses; I would have loved to hear what she would have done. (btw, nice piano solo too)

I have watched recent videos and gone back and played older ones and it never ceases to amaze me how much excellent young talent has been developed in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band under the skilled direction of Joan Chamorro. I wish there were a documentary about the school in English or with subtitles but I have not found it yet. I cannot say enough good things about the talented students, Mr. Chamorro and the experienced musicians (faculty?) who take part in the band. You are all to be commended.

Awesome! Alba does great, and to see her progression through the various recordings is awesome, but she is perfectly happy to share the spotlight with others too, which is a very humble hallmark of all these recordings. Also great to see previous artists who have had a "presenta" album still supporting their friends. Of course I have to say, as I do every time I hear an Ellington composition, well, he wasn't afraid to be different was he?

This is simply amazing! Right off the bat, it astonishes me how Joan Chamorro has the sax section mimicking the Ellington sax section in the lead-in, esp. the young lead alto star Koldo Munne, who was born in 2006, so he's about 13 yo in this 2019 video. And then, Alba Esteban (either 18yo or 19yo here) - what a great great job recreating Harry Carney's 1956 very difficult solo/interpretation of this great standard. And then, the brilliant, ever tasteful Fredrik Lindborg inspiring Alba even further. Just terrific!
