Enthusiast may not find much to like with the 2018 #Toyota #RAV4 but for car companies, all that matters is sales numbers. Thankfully, for Toyota, the RAV4 has always been one of their top-sellers and despite the current one dating back to 2013, it remains the best-selling compact SUV in America. However, as an all-new generation approaches next month, should you wait for the new one or take advantage of the steep discounts being offered on the current generation?

Redline Reviews What’s the point of reviewing a vehicle you don’t like when the new ones are about to come out? I remember going to a car show a few years back & asking a rep about this car & he knew nothing about it.I think Toyota needs to rethink who they make represent their vehicles to the public as well. Sofyan is not an adventurous type of individual but yet Toyota sends him an “Adventure” vehicle.Might as well send him a base model corolla from the 90’s.

I think the new one would be worth the wait. Better interiors more rugged looks and I am genuinely curious how the new Torque vectoring AWD system does. No word yet on the engines as well but if it has the Camry's same 2.5 205HP there would be no reason to buy a Forester over this, plus you can get a hybrid.

If you are considering the CRV, wait until Honda has figured out a fix for the turbo engine gas in oil issue. And don't trust the Honda salespeople who claim they have never heard of it. This issue is all over the CRV forums. When I was shopping for an SUV, I test drove the CRV, and asked the salesperson about the oil issue. He looked at me like I had two heads claimed not to know anything about it.

Tobbots Actually it is not the most reliable but tied with 2018 Equinox at about 12-13 repairs per 100 according to Truedelta data. That is half as many repairs as CR-V with 29/100. The Equinox is the newest and offers 1.5t and 2.0T with 252 horsepower.

I must admit, I do like the rugged looks of the new gen coming up. I even like the idea of 30 horses under the hood, as the current one does seem to struggle a bit when pushed from a dead stop. I feel like the trans gets a bit confused, as if it's not sure if you're really asking it to take off. I've had every model other than the base in this generation, both voluntarily and involuntarily and I currently own the limited. Owning this car in it's current gen for as long as I have, I've learned to tweak the driving behaviors to suit my needs and I do have a very high appreciation for the car. But if I'm honest, I wish I wasn't forced to replace my SE with the limited, as I really like the looks of that one. But when it's totaled you have no choice. However, I am glad to have my limited, especially with TSSP. I won't buy anything other than a Toyota. I'ts reliability is top-notch, in my opinion.

Sofyan basically hit the mark with this review. This is solid basic transportation that will get you to where you need to go (albeit sluggishly if we’re talking highway speed). If the incentives are significant enough this generation may present itself as a good deal. It’s a hard sell for some when you consider that the new model will be better improved in most aspects.

I drove the 2017 RAV4 for about 4 years, and it is an older platform, it still drove great. I had no problems with it, and it's reliable as heck. Toyota knows how to manufacture a reliable SUV, and I see why the RAV4 is very popular. I bought the 2021 RAV4 LE, and as expected, Toyota delivered. Fuel economy for the 2021 RAV4 though is miles better than the 2017 I had. I was averaging a high of at least 47 mpg (~5 L/100 km here in Canada) and a low of around 24 mpg (~10 L/100 km), which is amazing. I was amazed at the amount of range before empty with the 2021 RAV4.

Posting this comment just a few minutes into the video, I'm sorry if you address this.... But isn't the advantage of this model that it can tow 3500lbs? I know that is a huge advantage, since it uses a traditional automatic and not a cvt. We're a couple of fabulous queens who enjoy camping. But a CR-V can't even pull some little tear drop trailers.

I could push the gas to the floor and the wheels won't move for about 3 seconds. And will only activate for 3 seconds, spin then automatically stop. Very frustrating. Especially going into a turn... and I have no gas to scoot me through it. Am I missing something. ??? Wtf I can't even do donuts in the parking lot for fun. Please help.

The 2019 Rav4 has people insanely excited no doubt! But if your a person who likes the 2018 you will be able to get an INSANE deal on a 2018 model. When a redesign is announced the current model will slow due to people waiting for the new one. The more excited they are the more the numbers slow. The more they slow the more of them get discounted to move them out for the new year. We are seeing the 2018 slow WAY, WAY down! This means there will be a rather large number of 2018's to sell and will get MUCH bigger discounts! The 2019 hasn't even hit the lot yet and I am seeing Rav4's for $6,000.00 below the MSRP! We will see like I saw a used 2016 4wd that lists for $28,000 being offered for $18,000. I am looking at used ones consistently being offered for 5 thousand under the listed value already! I just looked at a new Rav4 Limited Edition in 4x4 with an MSRP of $34,000 and yet they are asking only $28,000! Cars have been my work for over 30 years now. I'm telling you, there are going to be some great deals if someone is willing to drive a new 2018 for a little of nothing!! I fully expect to see them at 9 and 10 thousand dollars under the MSRP soon. That Rav4 for the MSPR of $34,000 will be priced at $25,000 before long. At the end, once the 2019 is on the lot, I expect to see that Rav4 $22,000! It WILL go from $34,000 to $22,000. Big dealers have a lot of them. The one I am watching has 68 Rav4 on their lot right now. That's a lot of cars to get rid of and some damn good deals!!

This generation of RAV4 is the best selling and most reliable CUV so if you need a CUV today go ahead and buy one. The Hybrid makes the most sense of the current crop. Supposedly the black stripe along as cosmetics, is designed to reduce glare to the driver.

Tbh I’m not really digging the new 2019 rav4. It looks more like a highlander shape than a compact crossover.

Hell's yes, get the 2019 instead unless you want a deal on this old one.

The Honda CRV CVT and 1.5T are not reliable or durable. This is why RAV4 sales are booming. People just need something that works. I find the current gen RAV4 is too slow and does not have enough room for a 6 ft male driver even with the seat all the way back. The CX5 is probably the best choice in this category.

rav4 is too slow? No issue rav4 is great because Honda had problems some issue and also bad services. I feel unlike cvt.. I did switch Honda to Toyota done. I’m happy rav4 looks good

TOyota is trying so hard getting rid of the old models. There's a huge deal on this. If you don't care about stylish, i'd recommend get this.
