Great questions. Generous answers. BTW: Hot-housed kids (intense education from aged 2 or 3) get far ahead of their peers. But their peers catch them up, around 18. We do have a ceiling, whether we get there fast or slow.

I think Sam is underrating puzzle rush for building pattern recognition. They are "shallow", but when you start calculating and you need to see tactics 3-4 moves into the line, it eases the task tremendously. Yeah, I can solve mate in twos by just calculating, but throw me a few moves into the past and I'm unlikely to see it unless I've done the pattern recognition.
