Testing out my FLIR Breach during a USAR exercise (Kitsap CERT Operation Scarecrow 2018).
Unedited raw video. The thermal imager was on a flip-up helmet mount so when the video turns upside-down I was walking around with unaided vision.
00:00 : going up the stairs
00:09 : dazzling an observer with my flashlight
00:16 : beginning primary search of second floor. The whole area was full of fog-machine smoke to simulate airborne dust after a disaster and visibility with flashlights was only a couple of feet.
00:27 : Clear view down hallway through the smoke. You can even see the outlet the fog machine is plugged into glowing.
00:39 : making entry to first room on right. One responsive but non-ambulatory patient. Triaged as yellow and continued primary search due to lack of immediate danger and screams coming from further down the hall.
1:54 : making entry to second room on right. One deceased adult, one infant dummy (tagged as live patient). Checked laundry machines for additional children. Triaged infant as green due to lack of injuries and continued primary search.
3:15 : making entry to third room on right. One responsive but non-ambulatory patient. Triaged as yellow and continued primary search.
4:00 : making entry to room at end of hall. Two live patients and one deceased.
5:30 : live patients were ambulatory and followed our team down the hall towards the stairs.
6:00 : clearing last room off the hall as we rescue the walking wounded. Nobody there.
7:05 : observer at the end of the hall was completely invisible through the smoke but showed up clearly in thermal
7:15 : retrieving an infant since they were light enough for one person to carry
7:40 : retrieving the other infant
7:55 : team and walking wounded waited in the hall to back me up if needed
8:21 : descending the stairs
8:45 : handing the infant off to waiting medical personnel and walking the wounded to the medical area
