The Volkswagen Arteon is VW's new luxury saloon which aims to take the fight to BMW's 4 series Gran Coupe and Audi's A5 Sportback.
The Arteon is the replacement for the Volkswagen Passat CC, which later in its life was referred to as simply the Volkswagen CC.
The Arteon has certainly made an impact on the automotive world thanks to its supremely handsome styling but is it any good? Well I got to opportunity to explore the car recently thanks to the team down at Listers Volkswagen Stratford-upon-Avon.

Great video, nice b-roll, good music choices. Two smalls suggestions would be to work on your audio - particularly on the footage outside the vehicle. Also the image seems a bit under-exposed on the interior shots. In a car review you want to see the interior details - unless your talent is Jeremy Clarkson - then it doesn't matter.

@@thelostspaceman1783 its an absolute dream of a car, it really is. The only issue o had (dont have it anymore) is that over 100kph you could hear a bit of wind noise on the driver window as if the window did not seal properly.

Ernie ...how did the Arteon do on the trip to Italy? Did you try the A5 and the 4 series before buying....how did it compare? The rear leg room in the Arteon has the other two we'll beat.

Chatta290 I was told 15 weeks by my local VW dealer. 20, if I wanted an Auto gearbox.

John Mason some are better than others, one dealer said October and others 26 weeks. October is for the 1.5TSI auto. Due to WLTP it’s messed everything up and engine production won’t restart until October for the 1.5

Since 1996 Volkswagen has become a premium brand with the Passat B5 model and in 1998 Volkswagen has become a luxury-sports brand. Also Volkswagen Arteon is in class with 6 Series, A7, CLS but Arteon is more expensive than 6 Series and A7 but cheaper than CLS.

Good review but missed one of the most eye catching features that I realy like. That's the quite subtle bulging body work effect over the rear wheels which gives this magnificent car a sence of absolute elegant power. I rent cars now and again. I always go for a premium model but never know exactly what I'm going to get. On one occassion last summer I made a weekend rental was lucky enough to have this R Line A R T E O N in the exact same colour. Hats off to VW. They have really cracked it with this superb car. And yes, if I had 31 grand to spend, then this would be top of the list for sure. Well done VW.

Tom, I’m replacing my 15 plate golf R, we have a baby on the way so we need more space but I want to retain a touch of style. I had looked at a new Tiguan R line but the missus thinks it’s too big. I’m interested in going for a 3 series or an Arteon, where would you consider putting your money if it were your choice? I have driven a 3 series and it’s very nice, not driven an arteon yet.

Matthew Lewis the arteon is better, for better. Audi A4 and A5 and VW arteon should be the contenders here however the car actually competes with the A5 and 4 series but at this price point the bmw options are awful, only the 5 and 7 with the new design language are saloons worth buying and the arteon as standard comes with far more equipment and it looks amazing compared to the average run of the mill Audi A4 or 3 series

@Matthew Lewis the skoda superb is not as stylish exterior wise but in interior and cabin, boot space its very much on par. Theres also a 280 ps 4x4 Sportline version to compete with the 280 ps 4motion Arteon R line. The Superb will be slightly cheaper but will have very similar standard features and optional extras. I've been looking at both cars myself so thought it worth mentioning the Skoda to you. I used to own a Skoda 5 years ago. Don't be put off by the badge, they are excellent cars

I do like this motor aesthetically but in my opinion its too close to the top 3 premium brands in price and therefore won't compete. Badge snobs will most likely go for the Sportback A5 and I would go for the 4 series GC all day long over it. That said nice review Tom. Looks like broadway tower carpark? nice location.

Paul Marsh Interesting opinion - there certainly is a lot of badge snobbery that goes on when people are buying a car. Personally think it’s a bit silly myself. Yes Broadway Tower Car park, well observed.

I think the A5 is one of the best car for under £40,000 we have VW’s and Audi’s alongside a BMW but I’m not a full badge snob and I know that VW is making fantastic cars, I also know that the arteon is better than the bmw in quality and overall appeal thanks to the looks. People won’t be badge snobs when the Car looks like this and look at the VW golf, it’s one of the best selling cars in the U.K. and Europe yet it’s priced similarly to the A3 and q series yet they aren’t as popular. All these German brands minus Mercedes lead the field and the badge snobbery comes from non German cars as those are cars I don’t like

there is only 2 things i dislike about this car, the price as it is too high for that interior, either up the interior or lower the cost a bit as it doesn't compete with the 4 series or a5, and those alloys/rims, whoever is designing those needs to go because these diamond cut style and the turbine style rims just honestly spoil the look of what is otherwise a gorgeous car. audi is starting to do it as well with their rims.

greg lynch disagree strongly, the 20” graphite turbine wheels are one of the features most people who see my car say that they love. I also think they look fantastic, a little similar to what’s fitted to some Tesla Model S
