Great stuff. I wondered why the guy at the front was not in full dress .

What the hell are you talking about. Did you want him in a low cut little black dress ? Maybe a little shoulder showing. And maybe a nice string of pearls. Oh high heels just like you wear when you go on a date..

What is the humming sounds in the back sound of the bagpipes?
@blindelflunk5 жыл бұрын
There are three pipes (lying against the piper's shoulder) which are called drones. These play an open note whenever the pipes are blown. They are tuneable to give the characteristic background sound. The pipers have to get together beforehand to check they're all in tune.

Sonny Abraham To follow on from what Neil Waller mentioned, there are three drones. One bass, the tall one closest to the pipers left ear. and two tenor drones on the outside. All are tuned to the note of low "A" but It may be a different note than "A" on the piano! The uniqueness and Gloriousness of the brilliant Highland Bagpipe

And to make it even more difficult. The drones have to be tuned against the chanter first. So all pipers need to have their chanters in tune with each other. The bass drone is tuned against Low A on the chanter at 2 octaves lower than this Low A, the tenor drones are tuned at Low A one octave lower than the Low A of the chanter. The bagpipes do not follow the concert pitch of the Low A which is at 440 Hz. Low A on a bagpipes chanter can be as high as 485 Hz. If the chanter low A would be at 440 Hz, the tenor drones are at 220 Hz and the bass drone would be at 110 Hz in order to have the pipes completely in tune. When the drones are not in tune with the chanter or with each other you will hear a wobbly sound from the drones. The humming noise will be like whawhawhawhawha (or how you might describe a sound).

Look at that excellent drill - they really roar at you in Basel if you screw up. Very nice video. It's a great tattoo - they'd love to knock Edinburgh off its perch!!

Beat Edinburgh? That's just no gonna happen :-)

I've been in bands at both tattoos and Basel treats you a hell of a lot better than Edinburgh... Lol. Maybe the bands will vote with their feet! Edinburgh makes a poopton of money but doesn't exactly lavish any of it on the cast.

Is it just me or is Tattoo announcer really odd sounding? A more traditional display than Edinburgh has now for sure. No modern interruptions and dancers.

Yes, he sounds like Herr Lipp from The League of Gentlemen.
