IIHS's ruling on Crash Test results for the 2021 Toyota Venza:
The Toyota Venza was re-introduced to the market as a small SUV in the 2021 model year and shares the same platform as the RAV4. Two passenger-side small overlap frontal tests of the RAV4 were conducted, one by the Institute and the other by Toyota as part of frontal crash test verification. Ratings are based on both tests, but the vehicle specifications shown below are based on the Institute’s test.

Thank you for the video. One thing I relay like to see is a good side airbag on the rear doors. CR-V has a smaller one, more like a curtain. I have my two kids on a backseat, so it's important for me.

This is actually excellent. Watch other small overlap crash tests. Every one has intrusion into the passenger compartment. In this test, there is a hard stop at the engine firewall and passenger compartment, as there should be. This is the new TNGA platform m by Toyota, which all their vehicles will be over the next few years. I hope this same safety design is reflected as it is here, very safe.

There’s an airbag in the seat bottom that pushes the legs up so there even with the dashboard so the front part of the legs hit the dashboard evenly

Sin embargo es importante decir que los nuevos Toyotas vienen fabricados en la nueva plataforma de fabricación Toyota TNGA la cual aumenta la robustez de sus carrocerias. Además bueno todas las pruebas de choques son a 60km aproximadamente, lo cual aunque los autos de ahora tienen muy buena seguridad pues en carretera siempre son distintas las cosas, pues las velocidades son mayores, las masas con las cuales se chocan son de un peso mucho mayor. Eso afecta mucho los choques de los vehículos en carretera

I do like the more aggressive styling on the new RAV4 but the main thing that takes away from it, just like on a lot cars these days, is all the plastic cladding. It makes it look so cheap! A fully loaded one will cost almost $40,000 and you still get all that cheap plastic! I prefer body matched fenders and bumpers. It makes the car look much better and more structurally rigid.

The thing about these crash tests is that they are somewhat too 'ideal'. Unless the driver falls asleep they are going to slam on the brakes, turn the steering or do something to try and prevent the crash (screaming doesnt help, by the way). So in reality you might be faced with a situation quite difficult to replicate and test for and possibly more dangerous. Think of the Euro NCAP Moose Test. Plenty USDM 5 star rated cars fail that test repeatedly.

The test isn't about the driver's reaction. It's simply about how well the structure holds up on this type of impact. Obviously there will be outside variables that cannot easily be replicated.

This test was devised because of that very reason. Previous tests like the old 'full frontal' or '40%' offset test don't represent most real-world crashes. After studying many real-world accidents they devised this small overlap test which represents a high proportion of crashes in the US (ie driver steers to avoid the accident but still crashes with 25% of the front of the vehicle taking the full force of the impact).

Rav 4 2018 looks better. Designers need to get input on the style from the people who would buy this vehicle. Before releasing the style.
