They must be charging you for the z71. That thermostat on that one is behind the engine, and you have to remove the intake manifold. This one on the books calls for 1.5hrs, the other 5hrs. Sucks!

What was the reason you were replacing it? I have a feeling I have to replace mine because my fans stay on when the vehicle is off and my ac stopped working.

Sorry for late reply. The reason for this one was thermostat under regulated. For yours, I would check for code(s) in PCM to make sure you are on the right path. Don’t waste your money just replacing part(s).

I have the same issue in my 2019 Chevy Colorado with the ac no blowing cold air and the engine fan staying on for a few minutes after. I am currently trying to decide if I should change the thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor. I also have a check engine light come on when this happens and it is as soon as the temperature outside drops or if I switch my ac to fan on no ac it will happen as well. If I unhook my battery and re hook it it solves the problem temporarily what do you think? Thank you

@@alex94293 The best way to approach this is if you have handheld scan tool with data or professional scan tool. I’m sure regular handheld is not be able to scan all codes in all modules. Here are two options you can approach this as follow: 1. If you have handheld scan tool with live data. If so, I look at the ECT (engine coolant temperature). Based on your problem, you turned the vehicle off the fans running. I believe your coolant temperature is reading wrong than engine block. You can see this data on your scan tool such as like this “ECT ---- 220 F degree or more. If your ECT reading at 220 degree or above this will cause the radiator fan keeps running for awhile. In this case I would replace ECT sensor. 2. If you have a professional technician scan tool that cost more than $2,000, you’ll be able to read the code in all module. This is more accurate than a handheld scan tool with live data. This more accurate path and know the path much clearer than based on ECT reading or thermostat because you will have the code to diagnose, much easier. I know this is very technical, if you don’t understand, please me know. Best of luck my friend.

I did this job in about an hour and 15 minutes. As I was filling up the rad again I noticed that there was a fluid leak down by the thermostat so I had to pull the air box back off again. As it turned out I forgot to put a small coolant line back together that I removed to get the thermostat out. lol

Thank your for your comment and questions. If your vehicle is v6? Then it should be in the same location at 2019-2022 in the video. And I have not encountered or replace thermostat sensor yet and I believe thermostat sensor is mounted with the thermostat housing on a 4 cylinders. I’m sorry, I Do Not have the video for Thermostat sensor or 2018 Chevy Colorado thermostat or thermostat sensor replacement. If I encounter one & I will certainly making a video for it.

I have a lift kit on my truck and a shop I went to refused to replace thermostat on my V6 2018 Colorado. They said they’d need to remove the exhaust manifold heat shield down near driver side wheel well to access the thermostat. I mentioned watching this video and said I think it can all be accessed from the top. He disagreed and said they didn’t want to do the work. Would a lift kit interfere with exchanging the thermostat the way you do in the video?

I have not done 2018 Chevy Colorado v6 yet. If you could compare my video thermostat location to your vehicle. You can look at the top or bottom radiator hose, then you can make an adjustment from there.

Let me rephrase my question. The truck in your video seems to be identical to mine. So my question would be does replacing the thermostat in your video require any access from below or were you able to complete the job from above like in the video?

I replaced it with dealer thermostat, because it is fairly new model. I suggest go to the dealer and get one.

Is it safe to use the truck like this? I have to wait till the dealer is available for a diagnostic so I can file a warranty claim. But I can’t afford to lose time at work and it’s my only vehicle

The answer is no. When you have thermostat problem you should fix it regardless, if not might lead to other problem. The dealer should have a loaner for you. If your vehicle warranty or extended warranty.
