2019 AP Statistics #5 - FRQ Solution - Released Free Response Question - Probability Expected Value

This problem required you to understand how to calculate probabilities with the normal distribution and use areas to find cut off values. You are also required to calculate an expected value.

Hi, I am purchasing "Ultimate AP Statistics Practice Book" for my 10th grade daughter (your problem solving skills are amazing). Wouldn’t you not have to multiply the +50 by a probability? Because there is 100% chance that they will make 50 dollars because of the purchase, there’s a chance that they will lose money, which is what we calculate and then use to get our expected value by subtracting it from 50

I don’t know if this would affect the result, but wouldn’t you only go to 0 as the lower bound on the normal cdf since you can’t have negative months?
