You can see the amount of weight & power behind SOW's spinner on that first hit where it tears a large chunk off Huge, from the POV of the camera you can see the battlebox literally shakes when SOW smacks into the arena wall at about 1:00 because of his weapon recoil.

Pretty much an unwinnable matchup for Huge because SOW's spinner is wider than Huge's track width. The only hope was that one of those hits would throw SOW hard enough into a wall to disable the spinner before SOW took out a wheel.

It's "heavily inspired" by a British robot called Gabriel that managed to hold its own against the British version of Tombstone, massively subverting expectations. See Carbide vs Gabriel.
@digitaldeathsquid3448 Жыл бұрын
Exposed wheels aren't an inherent design flaw. Yes they can become targets for spinners, but when the majority of the field is spinners I feel that becomes a moot point. Bots with wheels that are fully exposed also tend to be more maneuverable and easier to right when inverted, if not fully invertible (e.g. Hypershock, Skorpios, Rotator, Sawblaze, Lock-Jaw). As far as the armour goes, the design philosophy behind using HDPE is that, because it's more flexible than most metals, it can better absorb the impacts of large spinning weapons. This can also cause more wear on the opponent's internals, such as when British robots Carbide (an invertible bar-spinner bot designed by the same people as Cobalt) and Gabriel (a HDPE thwackbot) fought in Season 10 of Robot Wars. Carbide won the judge's decision, but Gabriel was still mobile throughout the entire bout, and team Carbide revealed that their robot had suffered fairly significant internal damage as a result.
