I am 73 years old. I have owned and driven a wide variety of cars, trucks, motorcycles and Hot Rods. I love my '18 Bolt LT. First of all it's an exceptionally well built and solid car. Everything moves in unison, no rattles, no squeaks, no vibrations and no noises. Secondly it's response to the go pedal is instant and quick. The whole regenerative thing is a blast. It's a peppy, fun ride that makes my day.

This is as good as any. I have watched several of your videos and that helped me buy a 2023 Bolt EV last Saturday. I too came from a "3-pedal dive" to a 1-pedal drive (6-speed manual Honda Civic). I loved the Civic but the Bolt is a blast. I never drove an EV before Saturday but a friend took me in his Lucid (NICE) and the 0-70 was CRAZY! The Bolt isn't that quick but man, the torque is amazing and is SO quiet! Thank you for your real world scenarios, especially since you also have winter/cold weather driving. Now, I am just going through your videos I missed to see if I can pick up anything else. Thank you so much!

Your videos are very well done. I'm 76 years old and have been a Chevy guy all my life. I'm fascinated by the Bolt and have not been able to get a lot of real world information on the car. I live in Michigan where it's cold and snowy at least five months out of the year, so watching some guy drive a Bolt in Southern California doesn't do me any good. Your videos on the other hand show more real life realistic driving. Thank you.

Thanks for the video. I own a 2013 LEAF. Approaching 6 years and 70K miles. Only lost one battery life indicator bar so far. My daughter is interested in my car and I'm interested in more range. That is what draws me to the Bolt. My car is charged by solar panels on the house so the expenses for my electric car are extremely low. I will always be a 100% EV driver from now on. I did the half way house thing with a Prius before getting the LEAF.

I am an older male, I am very excited about the new EV world. I have looked around my town of 150,000. people. I can not find a public charging station. There are several but they are private car sales companies. I have ask about them at chevy and they keep pushing me toward the standard gas powered cars. So I would have to go out of town to buy one and to recharge if i was out getting low on power, unless i was at home. Both of those things are a downer for right now. But i do want to drive one at some point. So that is an out of town trip i gress. Thanks, i really enjoyed your ride around.

Hi Theresa, Congrats on your new Bolt! Great color! The brake lights do come on while using the paddle and while off the throttle while driving in L.... Once fully stopped they do turn off so I would hold the brake at that point

To help you out, the 120 volt charger 4 miles per hour, also works as 240 volt charger 25 miles per hour with adapter. GM was nice enough to tell you what you should watch and treat you like a child, by taking away video capability in the “up date for infotainment system” I have not updated for that reason. One of the reasons for me getting a Bolt. I consider GM doing that a breach of Warranty of Merchantability. I hope Cadillac puts it back, and uses the whole screen for that.

Hey quick question since you both own a Volt ... I am in the market but I can’t decide between the Volt or Bolt. I just landed a new career job at Walt Disney Co by Orlando. My drive each day is 90mi/ea way.(for about a year until we relocate). Disney has chargers on property btw. Which vehicle would be best for me? It would be 90% interstate driving to and from. Would the Bolt be ok for this daily drive? Or would the Volt be a better pick ? I found a couple new Bolts for like 26k down here in Fla which is a great buy but don’t want to buy something I would have an issue with possibly. Need advice if you can. Thanks !!
@DaveBsellsChevy
@DaveBsellsChevy 5 жыл бұрын
@@toddnewman2680 Congrats on the new job!! Since driving 180 miles per day I would go with the Volt. I would want the gas backup. The 230 range of the Bolt can do it on paper but what if you cannot charge at work (chargers down, chargers in use). Also, you would have to charge at minimum on a level2 charger both at home and at work for the Bolt to charge back up in time to leave the next morning.

Dave B sells Chevy THANKS Dave! Wish I lived up in NJ I’d come buy a Volt from you. There is TONS of them down here and some really good used buys. For instance a 2017 LT with only 7k miles for 14.5k ! Or another for 17k. I think that’s a pretty good deal for a certified GM lot car. Do you agree? I’d love to hear an experienced person in the car business weigh in on these cars. Thanks again!! Todd

Todd Newman get the Bolt That price is great. You will own the freeways! Go over 90,000 miles with no problems at all. Will buy and install rear seat heaters for my ride share passengers in my 2017 LT.

2018 Bolt LT (8 months); Everything you said I agree 100%. I started driving it like a traditional car then started using the paddle after 2 weeks, then the L mode and Sport mode after a month. When I press the on button I set it to Sport and L and also use the paddle when I need to stop a little quicker. The ride is very smooth and quiet. However the quick/instant acceleration is my favorite part. Great video!

Do you feel a big difference in the Sport mode? how about your range?
@cjdlv8909
@cjdlv8909 6 жыл бұрын
I don't feel much difference using Sport mode but someone said you get better range because you don't have to press the accelerator as far? As for range, I live in Southern CA and I get 4.4 per kWh for 50% local 50% highway (65-70mph). Starting in Jan I had to use the heater at times (set temp to 74) and kWh reduced to 4.0 kWh. When not needing heat I set the temp to 69. My AC/Heat button is always on.

I have retired a 1996!third generation Acura LEGEND with 400,000 miles, which I thought was the best car in the world. I now have a 2017 Bolt LT and with 127,000 miles on it, I am stoked. The car no longer lets you watch video because GM took it away on over the air updates. With the LT and good sources your sound system is almost audiophile quality. Very wide range in frequency response, very balanced, and holographic. You have air, height, width, depth, layering and great dynamic range( listen to the sounds of a fast attack submarine going deep in Hunt for red October or the cannonade before Pickets Charge in Gettysburg or the charging Hueys in Apocalypse Now or full Wanamaker pipe organ absolutely fabulous.) The Regen paddle can be applied, released applied again released each time giving more braking on top of the L mode. The only other Bolt driver with over 100,000 miles I know is Eric with News Coulomb YT channel. I call mine Boltoutofblue and personal name is Alexa.
@daviddrake7003
@daviddrake7003 5 жыл бұрын
Oh I forgot when you approach an intersection the frequency of your high beams can activate the light from red to green( saves a lot of stopping). I guess when you flash flash flash your high beams it thinks you are an ambulance? It is fun to experiment. Drivers look gob smacked when you change the light to green and sail on through.

Have a Volt. Love it. I assume the Bolt also has "sport" mode...which works very well in the Volt. I am not driving the Volt through the winter because, in addition to having a current job location the same distance away as a full charge, I just don't want to salt it up. So I drive a Buick through the winter. My upcoming job assignment, however, is at a company location that has a level 3 charger.....so...I will have to get a Bolt so as to avoid ever having to buy gas or charge it at home. The money I don't spend on gas (or charge) will keep the car payment around the current level (after I sell the Volt). Now I have seen some other EV's that look good, most notably the Kia and Hyundai ones.....but no real great price point or history I have solid info on. The Teslas are expensive as heck, if you get normal option packages. And you, the buyer, has no ability (and are not allowed) to get repair parts nor fix them. If you attempt service and Tesla finds out, they'll turn features off in your car and can void your warranty with the press of a button. I don't like the idea of that...I know if I buy a Bolt, and need something, I can go to the dealer, get the part, and replace it. The other problem with the Teslas, that I have seen, is that you will need to replace a drive unit or two under warranty, and I haven't seen that type of service requirement on other EV's as of yet. Invoices I have seen were over 20000$ for a Tesla drive unit replacement if done after the warranty is up. Aside from replacing tires and adding washer fluid, the Bolts appear go and go. "News Coulomb" has a bunch of Bolt demo videos...

Just found a used 2019 Bolt EV Prem. for 29k. Pretty pumped since they're getting HARD to find after the GM strike. Third owned EV ('14 Leaf, '15 BMW i3). To be honest I think the Bolt is a good middle ground vehicle (great range, fair price). The EV's with 80 Miles of range slip to only 40-60 miles too quickly when it's cold out + battery degradation after 4-5 years. Thinking the 230+ miles of range will be a good longer term vehicle. (If after 5 years, you lose 20-30 miles of range... meh the car is still really useful since you've barely put a dint in the total range.

Hi, congrats again on the BOLT EV. Does your BOLT EV brake light stay on when you come to a completely stop? Reason I’m asking was two members of my local EV group in NY had their BOLT EV rear ended, and their 2017 BOLT EVs do not keep brake light on when come to a complete stop.

Great question (and video idea)... As far as I know the brake lights come on with the brake pedal, regen paddle, and when off the throttle during one pedal driving. Once the vehicle comes to a complete stop and if the brake pedal is no depressed I think the brake lights go off.

Why do Dealerships always get Level 2 chargers? Which means, the Bolt will take 9 hours to charge. With a Level 3 charger, the Bolt will only take 45 minutes to charge. If you are going to sell EVs, you should be up to date with charging.

@DaveBsellsChevy 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure. We've had the level 2 since the original Volt came out. Last year we installed the DC Fast charger. We also leave them available at all times. I have a BMW store near me with a Charge Point that is almost always blocked by service vehicles

Unless there is a huge number of miles driven on test drives at a dealership in a given day, overnight charging at level 2 should be fine. But as a buyer, DC fast charge capability is an option worth getting, as it cannot be added later.

Found out it CAN roll while in "drive" on a level surface....if you do not have your seatbelt buckled the vehicle will roll, I think by design. I'd guess that somewhere, some unbuckled ding-dong jumped out of a Bolt while leaving it in drive.....which would be impossible (or very difficult) to do if the vehicle is rolling....

Dave I was just about to leave you a Facebook comment requesting a Bolt video! I'm glad to hear they're roomy enough for tall guys, but what do they say about the longevity of the car? The range could cover my daily commute on a single charge but I put a lot of miles on annually, so I'm just wondering how long the car would last? Do the electric motors last longer, so it would just need battery replacement in a few years?

My gf bought a tesla model 3 lr awd in december 2018. There is nothing like evs especially the tesla. I find more and more that the user interface in all other cars ev and ice is clunky, stupid, and poorly designed, including the bolt. Not to mention that the bolt from what I know has no navigation which for meal makes a car useless in this day in age. The teslas navigation from most who have used it, will say it is the best on the market. Best screen size and image as well as the superiority of the user interface for that also. Then tesla has the supercharger network which is the best maintained and most reliable one out there. All the other evs are lacking severely without such a network. Price or not, for now I do not see any other ev purchase for any where near the price to be worth it. Remember that the bolt is sold at a loss for gm which does not make it sustainable for gm or anyone else who makes a car like it. The other manufacturers need to invest in a battery factory and get off their duff if they are going to survive and compete.

Thanks for your input. The Bolt does have the ability to use Google Maps, Apple maps, and Waze on screen through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
@jq7216
@jq7216 5 жыл бұрын
Google Maps tends to be kept more current than on-board nav systems, hence the choice to rely on projections from cell phone apps. As for charging networks, well, ICE car manufacturers don't need to own oil and gasoline companies, and thus EV manufacturers don't need to own charging networks. There are several charging networks that fill different market segments, and they are building more all the time. ChargePoint, for example, has many Level 2 chargers for drivers spending the day at work or at a destination, or overnight at a hotel. EVGO, for example, concentrates on DC Fast chargers for charging during meal breaks on longer trips. With the PlugShare app all the charging networks appear on a single map, so anyone can plan a route. And finally, most EV drivers charge their vehicles at home while we sleep, something ICE cars can't do.
