Why are some people so mean to Jess? They need to chill. I think Jess, Tommy and Matt do an awesome job with these podcasts. I look forward these podcasts after every race and I really enjoy listening to them and their dynamic. I just think that people need a reminder that disagreeing with someone's opinion does not mean that you can be rude to them... Anyway, WFT1 thank you for uploading this podcast! The reason Kvyat gained 8 places so "quietly" is that the eight drivers he jumped were: Magnussen and Grosjean (collided on lap 1) Giovanazzi, Perez and Vettel (ruined their races with incidents) Hulkenberg (Kvyat passed him when his engine went into "limp mode" Norris (had to stop after the safety car, unlike others) Albon (his tyres ran out at the end, got overtaken by almost everyone) All in all, not much Kvyat action to show on TV.

Poor Vettel, in some people’s opinion the lack of confidence is derived from a car related issue. Have you noticed how easily that Ferrari goes in a spin? They say the car has a problem with understeer but probably what’s wrong is that it oversteers on corner entry because of read end instability and so the drivers are slower through the corners and wear the tires more because they try and fix the issue via setup. Vettel’s driving style doesn’t fit with what the car is capable of, unlike Charles’. How many times this season have we heard from seb that he was very happy with the car? Apart from testing, never. Sometimes are better than others like in Canada but really Charles seems to be more comfortable with this car, and therefore he is able to push and battle. To cut things short, I think that Vettel is not suffering from any crisis or psychological insecurity and the vast majority of the mistakes he’s made (and will make) are largely favoured by a lack of confidence and a mismatch between driving style and car behaviour. If Ferrari can provide him not only a fast car, but a stable one, we’re gonna see the best Vettel again and if the car is really that good, a 5th championship for him.

I mean, Pierre seems to have improved massively, but the fact that Max could've caught him if the race had been 5 laps longer is a bit unreal. Also, that Red Bull mechanic is hilarious. His facial expressions have been everything since Austria, and the cameramen know it 🤣🤣🤣

After hearing that Pierre's tires were gone after a few laps in both France and Austria I think Gasly was probably overcompensating (because he had to prove himself) which in turn makes him actually slower. So if he took a step back and do your thing + some extra help with the setup might have done trick.

Shout out to the Silverstone race track and decisions made in its evolution, it has been a racers track for many years then the tragic death of Senna & Ratzenberger and the need before old bridge corner changed layout, but new layout has so many opportunities to attack or defend, racers love it. It may not have the elevation changes of Spa, but damn it has good races on it no matter the Formula of car. You get cars competitive with each other with good drivers it's a play ground for motor sport. And the crowd on top, Brits will cheer on a a race of shopping trolleys with baby in seat too :D

I was actually disappointed when the safety car came out. Drivers interlocked in fascinating battles throughout the grid got split up.

I was at turn one, the T1 enclosure was fantastic, not much action but still a fun place to sit, just a shame there wasn't a decent screen to watch from the seat. For the price of the ticket and the promise of a screen, the fact the "screen" was in the enclosure and the stand smack bang between two on track screens so both weren't easy to view let it down a bit. All through Friday and Saturday I tried every stand and nearly always thought it was a better spot. Race was fantastic though

Read a story somewhere that albon's car had a high voltage issue and they couldnt safely pit him and so got stuck on a 1 stop with the stop being timed for a 2 stop. He then had to park away from everyone in parc ferme and jump off the car and the mechanics had to come and safe the car in all the safety gear

Just to add to the Perez incident... under the saftey car his steering wheel turned off and his break bias all went to the front and couldnt fix it afterwards and thats why he went into Hulkenberg. I don’t remember him getting a penalty though. Correct me if im wrong

Great episode for a great race! There's no coincidence that two of the best races of the season were on "classic" tracks. With Zandvoort coming back next year, hopefully we'll see a trend of revisiting old school tracks instead of the cookie-cutter circuits that have sterilized F1 racing to some degree. I want Imola back on the calendar!

I disagree that Lewis would have passed Bottas regardless of the Safety Car. Take the case of Baku, Lewis was behind Bottas for quite a few laps but did not manage to make the pass on Bottas. Also we can't really make predictions on what would have happened if Lewis was on a 1 pit stop strategy without the safety car.

Albon had an electrical issue so he had to switch from 2 stop strategy after he had gone from softs to mediums to a 1 stop. After he had already running them hard. Then he only got knocked out of points in the last 2 laps. At least a B performance.
