Without releasing close button, Allow sunroof to close, then go through the open cycle, back into the closing cycle and hold for at least 10 seconds after closing to allow to reset.
If you cant get sunroof to close at all... tap the button quickly to allow it to manually close.

Update: I was able to figure this out and it worked GREAT! I literally had an appointment with the dealer for tomorrow and it was going to cost $215 for the first hour of diagnostics and then go up from there. Yes, I canceled the appt. A little clarification to help you out: 1. You Must do the battery terminal thing to clear out the memory module or it will not work. A. Disconnect the positive and negative cables from the battery and find a way to touch the cable clamps together for 20 to 30 minutes. On the XT5 the cables won't reach each other so I rigged up a jumper cable to connect them. B. Have no fear or hesitation as you will not get shocked or damage the car computer 2. Reconnect the cables to the battery 3. Turn on the engine (just going to ACC mode did not seem to work for me) 4. Press and HOLD the Sunscreen Close button. After a very short time you will hear a click and a little jiggle in the Sunscreen. 5. Release the Close button and press the Open button. If you did everything right then the Sunscreen will open up to the halfway position. Press Open again and it should fully open. 6. Press and Hold the Close button to fully close the Sunscreen 7. Perform the same steps to fix the Glass roof This post saved me hundreds of $$ Thanks Dude

I am having the same issue. Sunshade and Glass roof stuck in closed position. Can you please give me some more details about how you fixed it? Did you do anything to the car battery? Did you have the car running or just in the ACC mode. Does a long press on the left side close button fix both the sunscreen and glass or do you have to long press the close button on the right to reset the sunscreen? How long did you have to press the button? Thanks

bro i love you. not the actual window part of the sunroof. but the part that opens up to let u see the window has been stuck halfway for me for a while now. holding the closed button for the recalibration just fixed it. thanks bru fr

So I have a 2017 Cadillac xts with the same issue. I chalked it up to a connection when it rains or if I get a car wash, so basically when it gets wet. But I've since tested that theory and sometimes it works in the rain and sometimes it doesn't. I tried holding the closed position for at least 2 minutes without doing anything to the battery but it still doesn't work. Should the car be on or off?

2020 Cadillac XT6 with sunroof issue you mention, poor operation and shade half way. Holding button and cycling completely while holding button fixed mine too. Close button with the picture of car on it, left side forward button is the magic button to reset function. Thank you. Manual for vehicle tells you how to use the roof and shade buttons. No holding of the buttons only touching or pressing to operate open, vent, close and shade. When operating the controls improperly the sunroof and shade get messed up. Another brand I have owned had sunroof issues with same reprogram help part of the fix.

For what it's worth... that procedure could cause possible damage within the computer electronics without the use of a small 1ohm 10watt resistor in between your connections. It's up to you, it's your car and your money, but I wouldn't risk it. That $2 part may save you a lot of grief, because once it's done, like anything else it's too late to go back. The instructions seems to be working which is awesome thanks for sharing. However, this is the same thing, just with a little added protection.

tldr: hold the close button until the window opens and closes all the way. For me, the shade button started working properly too after the reset (it only closed halfway before). Simply click the close shade button once and it should slide to to the front. Thx for the video btw helped a lot

Going to try this for a customer with a 2020 XT5 shortly. Her sunroof appears to be operational, but the cloth lid only closes halfway, and it has a Calibration Code for the Sunroof

Aye boss i have some questions about my XTS 2016. Sunroof isnt working. where is the power source for the sunroof? is it under the headliner or ? Cant find a diagram online. Had a star ceiling installed and want to diagnose where the issue is from before taking down the headliner and potentially ruining the fiber optic lighting. please let me know if you have any idea about where the power source is from so i can figure this out. thanks man

This is definitely the fix. WORKS!! it calibrates the sunroof & sunshade module, then clear the DTC with scan tool.

Just found this video Googling pretty much the same problem. Nothing on my 2017 XT5 would open. The screen or the roof. Held the close button on each to recalibrate them both and it worked like magic!! Thanks!!

Add me to the list of people helped by this video. Sunroof on a 2022 Bolt EUV was opening completely on a short press of the open button rather than venting. Held the sunroof close button for a little over a minute. The sunroof did NOT cycle through a full open followed by a full close; it stayed closed the whole time. But after holding the close sunroof button for that long with the sunroof closed; a short press of the open button is venting the sunroof as expected, so some sort or recalibration did occur.

Anyone have this issue with the 2013 srx? It was working one day, next day only the cover goes back, does not close all of the way, the glass part won't open at all.

My right button and shade needed to be reset. If your sunroof shade is locked in the middle And nothing is working except for when you push back on the sunshade it will click for just a small amount of movement then you need to hold the right shade button forward not the left and the shade will move in to the close position and then open all the way up and then back close again and then the sunroof and the shed will work. No need to do anything special with the battery other than just unplug it and put a spacer a plastic underneath of the negative terminal for five minutes and then plug it back in

My sunroof opens fine, but I have to hold it the whole time instead of being able to just hit it once & it go back on its own. Reading the owners manual, it sounds like it's in manual mode & I followed the steps to return it back to the automatic setting but it didn't work. The sunshade also only closes halfway. I'm torn between there being an actual problem or if it's just user error.

This also works when the shutter doesn't close all the way. Just go through the calibration with the sunroof first, then close the shutter.

@@rebadaddy I pressed and held the close button for the glass roof for about 10 seconds or so. The glass opened. Keep holding the button. Once the glass opened all the way, KEEP HOLDING THE SAME BUTTON IN - DON'T RELEASE IT. The glass will close. Once it closed all the way, release the button. It worked normally after that. It isn't intuitive to hold the "close" button in order to open the sunroof, but it did work. Just make sure you keep holding the close button throughout the process until it closes. Then it should work normally.
