I am on my second GS - awesome vehicle. In addition to performance the fit and finish of the GS is superior and closer to the LS than the ES. GS comes from the original Lexus factory, which is renowned for high quality across the board. The fact that it changes little year to year is a positive for me - the machine has been perfected and doesn't have the reliability issues that come from significant redesigns.

The ES is that car that sells but doesn’t have a class, the IS competes with the compact luxuries like a 3 series or a C class. The GS competes with the big boy midsized luxuries like the 5 series & the E class. The ES is priced with a compact luxury but has the space of a midsized. Who knows where it places.... I mean it sells 😂

I think in 2016 the ES finally got the same chassis as the avalon so I'd call it a full size luxury car

Anthony Burke They May share the same wheelbase, but the Avalon is bigger than both the ES and the GS (2016). Also the ES changed from the Camry platform to the Avalon platform in 2013

The ES cabin space is much more roomier than the GS. Even Lexus says the ES is the full size sedan and the GS the midsize sedan. And having own an ES and currently drives a GS, I know this is true. A 6 ft person could sit comfortably in the back seat of a ES, not so much in a GS. That said, I love my GS F-Sport because it is the perfect size for a single guy like myself!

The GS350 is a more expensive built car, that's the reason it's been discontinued. Lexus can build cheaper ES350 and charge almost the same amount for it,just by adding some cheap features, also GS has to be built in Japan to ensure quality standards to compete with the German.

Pretty simple, if you want more cabin space, comfort and luxury for an affordable price you go with the ES 350. If you want a sportier look with less leg space in the back you go with the GS.

I'm on my 3rd ES hybrid. I love the comfortable smooth ride. That's all I care about when coming from a busy day at work. I'm also glad that I get to decrease my carbon footprint. I love the space. I've recently moved my parents in with me because my dad recently went into endstage renal failure. It's dependable and a great family car.

Thanks for the review and information, Kirk! I am a fan of both the ES and GS. I have seen some great priced used GS 2015 models, not many F Sport trims though. I think I’d go with the GS since it more driver oriented and offers the AWD. I do like the IS too, but it felt a tad cramped on the driver seat for me.

I have a 2013 ES350, 2nd owner bought it in April 2019 w only 30,009 miles. I was considering a GS350 and an IS350 both were $3k-8k more. I don’t need AWD so one reason why I didn’t go GS. If I had to choose again I would go IS 350. I’d sacrifice trunk size and rear seat room for a more sporty ride and handling

The optional Torsen Limited Slip Differential is removed as an option on the gs 350 AWD. Also four wheel steering option available only on the rear drive GS 350. What I would want is the rear drive with torsen lsd w 4ws.

My personal opinion: If you like to drive, definitely go for GS model. Pity the 4th generation of GS no longer have V8 engine, that's one of the reason I got a GS450h instead. Absolutely love it, however wish ECVT can be more sporty feeling on gear changing at sport+ mode.

Which one shall I choose?... The GS! It has the proper chassis not Toyota Camry based. Thee GS is a proper competitor to BMW 5 series and Merc E class. Rear wheel drives are for proper drivers. Having said that a RWD based AWD is an exception as it has maintain some or most of rwd character.

Hi Kirk. I am interested in getting a 2018 or 2019 Gs350. I'm trying to figure out the difference between the base and the f sport. Will I feel too much of the road with the f sport? How the steering wheel on the ES? I got the 16 GS350, only 11k miles on it. Steering pretty heavy to me coming from an 2018 RX350. It is like that because it's a sport sedan? I love everything about the GS but I drive to work daily mostly in traffic, and the steering makes my arms tired after 45 min. I probably don't need a 311 hp sedan. I love the paddle shifters and the powerful engine, but it's not for me I guess. Should I return the GS and get the ES since I heard ES's steering much lighter? Thanks Sir.

Funny you made a video about this I went to test drive the ES F sport and I will be keeping my GS. It’s FWD and it so quiet. It really is just an appearance package. When I floor my GS you hear the engine growl and the exhaust sounds good but the ES is quiet and smooth. So glad I drove the ES so now I know that it will never be an option for me as a sport sedan like the GS. But overall the ES is solid the design is great and I’m in love with it but I need that RWD or AWD sports feel.

I could be wrong. Wasn't that in 2017 (or 2016), there were news that GS is slated to be discontinued in a few years time. Hence no major refreshes will be foreseen. At that time, I recalled Lexus want ES to go upscale to pick up the slack from GS when ES shifted its platform. Previous platform of ES was shared with Toyota's Avalon. So, choosing GS does not make financial sense. The resales value of GS plummet significantly when compares to ES.

No confirmation on GS cancellation. ES can pick up some of the slack of GS buyers, but it is still far from a sports sedan. A larger IS should foot the bill.

I know they are on different platform but they share the same V8 and similar external appearance up front. Another off the beat question - for your upcoming live cast. LCF and Supra seem to complete for the same target market (OK, I understand Supra has 2 less cylinders and don't pretend to have 2 rear seats). Thx.

RC just got a refresh for 2019, so they also refreshed the F variant to keep up with the non F RC styling. Supra and RC F are different market and I'd take an RC F used over a new BM---Supra.

@@gianniclaud FWD might have less maintenance but, access to the acc. belt, water pump, A/C comp.(pulleys) is cramped hard to get to. Also you have CV boots to worry about later on 'cause they're rubber and rip. RWD the pulleys are easier to get to and no CV boots but, it has rear differential to do maintenance, change the fluid, but is easy to do.

GS350 is by far superior. I have a 2017 and recently had it serviced at Lexus. They loaned me a 2021 es350 for a day and there's way in hell would I trade my GS for it. The exterior looked nice and all, but the interior and the drivability felt more like a Toyota or a Honda. Quality just wasn't there.

I have a beautiful white on red 2016 GS350 F-Sport that I've owned for three & a half years so far & love it to death! Easily the best car I've owned so far & not planning on replacing it anytime soon! It now has 75K miles (bought it when it had 41K miles) & feels just as solid as a new one. I've driven the current ES a few times as a loaner vehicle & hated it compared to the GS. It had too much power going to the front wheels which made the steering feel weird. RWD > FWD. The interior quality is much better in the GS. I would honestly much rather buy a Camry than the ES.

Are you sure the ES has worse quality interior then GS or are you just being biased? The ES is brand new in 2019 and is regarded to have one of the best interiors for its price. I am a GS owner btw and it's a great interior, but seeing the ES through KZbin the interior looks just as good as GS except with a more modern design

The seller sounded very dumb. This GS came in 2013 refresh in 2016 and discontinued in 2020. Every car company does refresh in 4yrs new design in 6-8yrs.
