We just spend 8 weeks in our general motors diesel 250 with the Alison transmission our trip to alaska. We pulled our 24 ft living in light toyhauler, traveled 9,670.00 miles. We left the last week of August and return to san diego the middle of Oct. We saw rain, snow, ice and freezing weather. We changed the air filter, and had a flat, picked up a nail in Denali alaska. The truck was reliable and did a great job. My husband loves his gmc sierra diesel truck, it is a 4by 4, extra cab for the puppies. With a nice large winch on the front, we pulled a young couple in Canada when they slid into the snow on the side of the road. My husband was a master mechanic for many years. Mr fix it. I felt safe in the truck during our long trip to alaska, during all the weather changes. Happy rv times🤗

Looks nice. I highly suggest getting a spray on bed liner to fill in all of the gaps between the body panels and most of the drain holes up front. It will really cut down on the dust inside the bed of the truck. I left only one drain hole open in front when I had my truck bed lined.

The best addition I ever made to my truck was a bed slide. I’m really surprised that no one in the rv community has really jumped on this upgrade. In your case, you could mount your water tank on it and just bring the tank to you to fill it or utilize it. Want to still mount the tank in your truck bed, then install a 6 foot slide. I no longer carry a 6 foot ladder and the slide has been just great. I recently helped my brother-in-law move and the slide worked out great. As part of my business, I move grandfather clocks. Again, out comes the slide, pack the clock and slide it back in. Just something to consider. Would love to see you do a video on one showing the pros and cons of a slide.

We talked about doing a slide. I don't really care for the wasted space in front and behind the wheel wells. I would have to only be able to use that space utilizing something that would not obstruct the slide going in and out. Good thing I don't really care about is cutting down the height that could potentially fit in the cap because of the slides height taking away from that. And of course like you mentioned me having that water tank I don't know if I would want to mount it on the slide because I still need to have a vent hose, a fill hose, a low Point drain Maybe, and of course my pressure hose that is run with my water pump. I think getting all that on the slide would be a little more difficult. And of course if I did run a 6-foot slide like you mentioned for that 8 foot bed now I have to foot in the front of my truck that I have to climb over a hard metal slide on my knees to get to whatever else might be up there. Of course, I can make it work. And I'm sure I will get used to it. But I kind of like that bedrug. For no other reason then I have gotten used to using it after all the time of owning it on my other trucks. The only other negative that I when I care for is if I needed something in the back of the truck and it's raining everything else on the slide has to see the rain too. Whereas if I leave myself enough room I can crawl up and over to get to whatever I need. And lastly when we had mopeds the slide definitely would not work as the mopeds were already pretty much to the ceiling of the cap. Did a thing I would think is trying to secure items 2 that hard metal surface so they would not slide around, whereas the bed rug kind of holds everything in place if not I have Velcro cargo holders it keeps everything for moving around. But, again, I'm not putting down the slide we looked at him when we were buying the cap and I thought about potentially trying to make that work instead of purchasing that leer Locker. You're right though there's a lot of people that don't have a water tank in the back of their truck you would think that they would have a slide. I've only seen one whenever I was out camping in an RV park. I would think there would be more out there. I'm not sure I wonder if people have a hard time drilling into their floor securing it. maybe I'll make mention of it in a video if I can remember to see if anybody else has it installed in their truck thanks for the comment that's a good point!

Very nice. I went with the A. R. E. CX Classic Topper and I'm very pleased with it. Because of the hurricanes down here in Florida I had to wait almost 6 months before they could get it to me, they were that far behind on orders. So many truck toppers got damaged.

Awesome Leer cap and Bedrug! I have the same newer backing type Bedrug. The Bedrug attaches to the drop-in bedliner via the Christmas tree clips. I also have the Bedrug Track Mat that I constantly use for the travel trailer and around the house.

Full one piece glass on the side makes it look great my favorite shell so far like the full sheet of glass and the vent option to leave open in the rain! Looks great makes ur truck look like Excursion or Suburban. Looks so much better!!!

Beautiful! I have regretted not buying what was then called a gun cabinet like your leer locker. I got the roof rack option so price was already over $4000 back in 2011.some times saving a few hundred dollars isn't the best over time.. That remote lock is really cool. Watch that it doesn't move on you as where it fits over the box sides can rub and damage cap and box

Yeah that's the discussion that Heidi and I had. I was asking at what point did I want to wish I had that and then have to install it myself later. I'm not sure what you mean about moving though question mark are you talking about the entire cap? It's kind of odd but all these cap manufacturers have now designed the caps like in my case to be mounted directly over the factory bed rail protectors. It's hard to believe but at cap even though it looks pretty flush outside is sitting on top of all the plastic factory bed cap protectors on the front and the tailgate too. So even if it does move a little bit I don't know if it could cause any damage to the bed. Have to take a second look at that them make sure that the clamps are tight. The only thing that I'm concerned about on any level is the truck rides relatively stiff as you would expect and F250 would especially with that camper package on there and I'd be concerned about the locker making stress cracks in the fiberglass where it's mounted. The good news is leer has a lifetime warranty on the fiberglass structure as long as it's installed by a leer Factory dealer which of course mine was. However, as you know from my previous videos I'm not really a big fan of warranties other than Automotive manufacturers Just because of all the red tape band variable answers you could potentially get when submitting a claim. Are cap wasn't quite that much but it was much more expensive than I expected. Now if I went with the a r e cap it would have been over $4,000 if I would have had them install the Leer Locker on the are cap. I don't even know if that could have been done. The local are dealer wants me to stop in as he wanted to see if it's an option he could start offering to his customers when he found out I went with a leer because of it. The local are dealer is actually the guy that does all of our window tint and also did my son's Vans keyless entry and remote start. The remote lock means I'm just really lazy. LOL

My cap tends to move a little some time (very little) . I think it may have to do with the 2 kayaks on the roof. If you still have a picture for patreon earlier you will see it there. Where the back of the cap comes down over back if box sides it will rub I gave a little damage to cap from that rubbing. I really like your bed liner along with the cap interior. Something I am still thinking of now that I had new metal on inner and outer box sides. Lol...that's a story. I am thinking if getting a 3m clear rock guard film put on top of box sides before putting cap back on truck. Just letting paint cure for a few months first.

I had the Leer 100XQ installed on my 19 F250 and just got back from a couple of road trips of almost 4k miles. The brake light on the cap leaks. Today I removed the light and added clear rtv behind it. I have the Leer Locker and the power unlock added.

Howdy, I did a video if you want to check that out a few years back that I think was titled travel trailer vs. 5th wheel. I am definitely and to utilizing that bed space for travel. Of course that video stirred up a bunch of comments from fifth wheel owners that was explaining in great detail how fifth wheel storage is so much greater than a travel trailer and if they wanted even more storage they could go with a toy hauler. However, I think most of them failed to realize that you can get travel trailers with an incredible amount of storage now and you can also buy a travel trailer with a toy hauler garage. The difference there is that I still have the bed of my truck open and the storage will always be greater. I wasn't downplaying fifth wheels I thought I'd made that clear on the video but a lot of people surely got upset. Funny part was some of the comments they were saying that the fifth wheel will carry everything that they want to and there's no need to have anything in the bed of the truck however I can't imagine taking and putting like my garbage in my trailers Bay for a couple of days if I'm not close to a dumpster. Or a barbecue grill that has that grease smell no matter how much you clean it in a trailers storage compartment or for that matter even spare propane tanks as I would think all of that smell and potentially gas wood permeate into the trailer eventually and because most of the large fifth wheel storage areas are usually under the bedroom. Anyway so I got off topic my son was just up in Akron last night exploring. Thanks for the comment, really appreciate hearing from another ohioan! :-)

Caution the third brake light, our's has needed to be replaced 3 times now. Random LED bulbs have died on each. After the second time LEER wouldn't replace it, we did purchase our cap in 2015, hopefully they have fixed it since then. Also, this past summer when we drove around the USA, that rubber flap to keep the elements out over the tailgate came off in the extreme heat of Arizona and Nevada, the glue failed. Looks good though!

I'll keep an eye out for that... Just as a Technical note.. there are three major issues that could cause an electrical component to fail, which haven't changed for years, and that is heat or excessive Heat, moisture we're water contamination, and finally , electrical spikes. If I start running into that problem I'll see if I can put together some sort of a video on an LED board replacement that has some kind of protection. Hopefully, they've address the issue but the fact that I've got two people already telling me that they've had the problem out of 700 people that's watch the video, that means it's definitely a higher percentage chance that I should experience the same thing. I would never buy that cap again. I've made quite a few videos covering the Saga about that cap this is the only one I can find right now just fast forward to the 13 minute mark - - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jajGnp5sp8SNrK8si=UH29wKwbEzQKGsTi The other thing is after 3 years we end up going to a fifth wheel and it is amazing how little resale value these caps have. I advertised my cap for sale heavily on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, I physically posted it on cork boards inside auto parts stores and truck accessory shops. I called people who purchase caps and the absolute top dollar I could get after 6 months of trying to sell it was $900. If I was you I would look for something used. Because buying new don't mean anything when it comes to caps. If it's the wrong color the amount of money that you'll save having it repainted at a body shop is still going to make you come out in the long run a lot cheaper. Just do a search for RV Daydream and either the word Leer or truck cap and there should be a few videos that pop up.

I really enjoy your videos! I’m thinking about buying a ‘19 F250 myself. To fit large vehicles in my garage I have to fold the mirrors in. When you start up your truck do the mirrors automatically go out? If so, is there a way to stop this?

The rear window on the RV comes with seals and it does not leak. With that said, every cap I've ever owned on any of my vehicles at some point they leak a little bit not hardly at all but they will leak a little if they're in the right kind of rain storm or if you go through a high pressure car wash it may blow through the seals a little bit. But once you have the cap installed it's all good and dry and tight for the most part

Looks great! Inside & out. I had asked hubby about the retractable cover for the bed of his truck but he has a dumb bar thingy with fog lights on it that comes out of the bed. How dumb is that? Wanted to pack things to take to the beach house and it rained on our travel day so we had to take a different car. I swear that truck is useless! LOL

We like the 100xq because of the rear tailgate cover which is a hard fiberglass but we don't like the one piece big window as we had one shatter. We like the 100 XL because of the fixed large window and small crank out window but we don't like the tailgate cover because it is a flimsy bug shield type plastic. So we trade it in a 100x q for the 100 XL but we kept the hard fiberglass rear window off of the 100xq. We are actually selling ours currently because we're getting a fifth wheel lol

I’m glad Ford made the system able to adapt. I have to remember to take the trailer hitch off of my Chevy when not in use because it freaks out my backup sensors and shuts them off. I understand the rear sensors not working but the front won’t work either. Looks like I’ll be buying a Ford!
