Thanks for the video. Always wanted the type r and about to pull the trigger on a 2021 this weekend. Silly question though: what would the car make with FBOs minus the tune?

I'm not 100% sure actually. I was FBO with basemap tune when I went on the dyno. Plus...306hp stock is at the crank. Maybe somewhere close to 300-315 whp FBO with no tune.

@@MotoRX1 copy that. I'm also reading multiple reviews that the stock numbers from the factory are really underrated. Some of these type Rs are actually making 300 hp to the wheel fresh out the dealership. Insane!

hey love the car and just a question, i also have a FBO type r and i got a problem right now, i keep going through spark plugs and the car can barely hold a WOT pull, is it the plugs im getting? or the igntion timing perhaps being off? and what plugs was the car in the video running?

Car has only had stock NGK plugs. Unless you've got some crazy hot tune that would require aftermarket iridium plugs, I would stick with OEM. Did you have it tuned when it was cold? Could be running lean in this hot time. Tuner will want data logs and they can tell you if it is still running the correct AF ratio during power pulls.

@@MotoRX1 I actually ordered ngk plugs I’m just waiting for them to come, and my car was actually tuned in hot Florida weather, I also sent my tuner data logs just waiting for him to get back to me and I’m just getting other peoples input. The turbo runs about 26 psi rn so that might be a bit intense, but thanks for your response I appreciate it 🙏🏻

I was at Home Depot yesterday picking up a bathroom vanity in my 2019 Type R so l was parked right at the exit door Wow the comments l got from customers coming out of the store was amazing! And mostly from the older generation (like me) mine is also black but completely stock.

@@MotoRX1 Your Type R must be a track monster! Any issues with understeer? I was on Road Atlantic doing a Petit LeMan parade lap in my 78 911SC got it up to 120 on the back straight, have no idea were the pace car went : ) I did a lot of track time with my Porsche Turbo S at Roebling, Barber, CMP & VIR I haven't tracked my Type R yet as l need to sort out what's required for occasional track use ie brakes, tires & ECU mod

Now that it's up on power, if I give it too much throttle in low speed corners the wheels can break loose and it can start to push. Otherwise, she almost handles like an AWD on the track. Get some Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, upgraded pads and front rotors, and replace your brake fluid with Racing Brake Fluid rated 600 or higher... you'll be set to attack the track. The Hondata tune is just icing on the cake. 👍

I assume that most of the tuning involved adding timing since the stock fuel system is pretty much maxed on the basemaps. How much timing could you add over the basemap and which basemap did you go in with?

I know the tuning is mainly timing and commanding peak boost earlier for the Bosch ECU. I don't know what the timing number was for my tune, unfortunately. But, I was using the 93 octane/intercooler/race downpipe/increased throttle response map at baseline.

I am partial to the 2019. They added the volume knob and A/C buttons that make the infotainment more usable, but it was before the added Honda Sensing and piped/fake intake noise added in-cabin. Mine was 2019. 👍

Yes, stock clutch. And no, no clutch slipping issues. 👌 Just can't be too aggressive on the throttle or the tires get away from you. 😆🔥

hows loud is the inside of the car at 75 MPH? wondering because i have PRL catless downpipe thatim going to install on my 19 type R when it warms up and been looking at the AWE touring but have never found video clips with a catless downpipe

Dude, the volume is not bad at all. Now I will not lie...catless downpipe with the AWE TOURING is AT LEAST 114dB on a sound meter at 50 feet away inside a large open shop at full tilt. You put your foot down and everyone gon hear you rowdy. 🤣 But the 180 drone canceling tech claim is not BS, it WORKS really well. So below 2500-3000 rpm at half throttle and gingerly driving, she is pleasantly grumbly and deep. Cruising at any speed below 4000rpm if you are at maintenance throttle, not gassing but not slowing, its almost quiet. I love my exhaust setup.....but I may have a change coming. 🤭🤫

Jeremy Rosario did 400 on 93 with prl intake, prl intercooler and a downpipe may 15 2020 in Florida. 389.66 torque and 400.80 hp. Removing smoothing doesn’t do much to numbers unless the power is erratic. Show uncorrected values. That’s where the truth is. No one and I mean no one using uncorrected numbers on a dynojet can hit 400 on 93 with bolt ons only stock turbo.

Yeah 400whp is a tough one to belive. I installed my XDi pump finally and was tuned yesterday. With my mods: PRL front pipe PRL catless Downpipe PRL high volume intake PRL thermal coated inlet pipe PRL Intercooler PRL charge Pipes Hondata Stock turbo Stock exhaust 93 octane Best numbers were 390.44 whp 394.66 tq There was an error code (which he disabled) that popped up with the MAF. I also didn't drill that high pressure line out because, and I admit, I got lazy and it looked like a pain in the ass to take that line out. Lol. But we're assuming that since it is the stock line going in a bigger pump, it could be the reason why after 5600 RPM, the graph gets jumpy. Like it is fighting for that extra fuel or something. Soooo now I ordered the race MAF from PRL, and when his mechanic guy comes back home, he'll take it out and drill that line for me, then we'll see if we can break 400whp on 93.

@@MotoRX1 Sure will. I didn't think my PRL street MAF was a problem with full bolt ons. But after some reading about MAFs, I can see why. I also figured with the pump upgrade, even on 93, I'd be able to make 400whp or slightly above. I just wanted to keep the build simple and just get 93. I know the limitations, but I don't feel like mixing gas at pumps. Lol. I have access to all grades of fuel where I go, but just prefer 93 🤷‍♂️He has other Type R's on his dyno with a few bolt ons and e30 breaking 400whp. Less mods than me, but that flex fuel is helping them a lot. One car made 434whp less than a week ago on his dyno. I'm still going to atick with 93 though.

Big MAF, big power on 93, you need the P600. Only issue then is the fuel pump. 400hp on stock fuel/turbo really taxes the fuel delivery system. So even if you want to "not" upgrade fuel, you still have to upgrade fuel. 🤔 😆

Well, I have the XDi high pressure fuel pump, so I'm not on the stock fuel pump. If that's what you meant by stock fuel. I'm definitely not maxing out yet on fuel.

When you say knock, is that a bad sign for the engine?

It can be if it happens a lot. Knock, or spark knock, pre-ignition, pre-detonation (lots of names for it) is when your fuel system is maxing out and can't provide the fuel for the air and timing. The cylinders lean out (more air than fuel in the mix) and temperatures in the cylinder rise. As they get high enough, the gasoline spraying into the chamber ignites due to just the residual heat in the cylinder...before the spark fires. This causes booms in the cylinder that are out of time. Engine starts fighting itself to run. Bad running situation for the engine.

I have a 2019 ctr with muffler delete, drop in k&n filter and a custom tune and made 353hp375trq. All that money for bolts on and not much more power than I have🤦🏿‍♂️. But it does sound good when you are telling us about the bolt on goodies.

Bolt-ons matter when youre going max effort 400+whp Tune is mod #1 Flex fuel e20 and Race MAF #2 and#3 Downpipe/Front pipe/ FMIC #4 #5 #6 Turbo inlet #7 HPFP and LPFP #8 #9 HP line modified #10 Injectors #11 Full bolt-on E50 stock turbo 450ish whp Big difference from 350 to 450

Not sure what is available for the FK7 Sport in a CVT. But, don't be mad at your now car for not being mod-friendly. Look at it as a way to save money on car parts until you get your tuner dream! 😅👍

😅 It was pretty chilly that day. A 2020 with slightly less mods on a much colder day this week eked out 4 more horses 🤣🤣. 401. Tuner messaged me and informed me I had been dethroned. I had my 15 minutes. Lol. I be back in February with a new exhaust. 🔥

@@jeryjohn I did not get a baseline dyno at full stock. Only way to calculate drive train loss is to compare a stock whp pull to stock bhp (at the crank). My baseline dyno pull was with all the aftermarket parts and Hondata base map tune. The power gain was measuring custom tune vs out-of-the-box tune. 👍

@@MotoRX1 drivetrain losses are calculated by letting the car rev down in neutral it has nothing to do with the baseline run, sorry i think you misunderstood my question

Oh, my bad. I'm a mechanic. I know what the dyno is for...but I really don't know anything about them or how to adjust tune settings. I was uploading the provided base maps with the Hondata on my own, but I paid a shop for the hot tune. 😅

@@MotoRX1 1 track day and I was sick of the overheating issue. oil cooler, intercooler, wrapping all the pipes, upgrading to js racing front grill and cooling bonnet, and last but not the least deleting the AC.

Deleting the A/C is next level! 🔥 I have blankets on inlet, turbo, and down pipes and open front grilles. Looking at a Koyo radiator and Acuity reverse flow hoses next. 👍

Its bid said many times the fuel system will not let you go safely over 400hp unless you add meth injection to it or use the hondata fuel upgrade, so that tune with oem fuel system is not all that safe i wood say safe is 360 or to 375 tops for me

You are correct. In the description I mention that at the 397hp mark we got knock and the car pulled timing out of two cylinders. We backed off and I left the dyno with the 391/367 graph. That was peak power level with optimal A/F ratios and a clean pull with no knock. 👍

Idk I am running a custom tune from redstar motoring stock turbo and fuel system E25 423whp. Have zero knocking issues or fueling issues.

@@joeautomotive8582 Absolutely! That Flex Fuel makes a difference. I'm not running any ethanol...just 93 octane pump gas. If I added the PRL flex fuel kit and re-tuned I could get more out of it. 👍

Lol. No...no world record here. It was a record breaker for the dyno tuning shop I was at. >> E.B.Tec is the premier Honda tuner in the Atlanta area. They tune LOTS of Hondas and have tuned quite a few Type-Rs. For THEIR dyno....for a stock fuel system, stock turbo FK8... mine has made the highest horsepower before introducing knock at the top of the fuel system.
