I never liked Ford until I rented this for a 700 mile road trip. I love it.

I was gm as a kid. Later, I lived out of a suitcase and service truck, traveling 9 states working on big industrial and institutional heating, cooling, and process equipment. The company bought whatever they could get a deal on. After decades living out of them, it has been my experience that the ford's are hands down more dependable. I got really tired of sitting in hotels after having my tools go down the road to repair shops behind wreckers. I loved my 60's and early 70's Oldsmobiles. In 73 I drove an Ltd brougham. Have also tried to give gm the benefit of the doubt, twice-- with an astro van and a buick. Both were very disappointing. I also fought fire, and ran rescue and ems for over 30 years. There is a reason most fire depts, law enforcement agencies, construction companies, and state and municipal entities have blue ovals on their equipment---.

We have the limited with the naturally aspirated 3.5 duratec. It is very underpowered, Ford claims “290 hp” and it is nowhere close. The transmission holds gears for wayy too long, and hesitates to shift when going up any slight grade. The vehicle feels very heavy (it’s certainly not a “light” SUV), and when merging onto the highway it SCREAMS just to keep up with traffic.

Ive had the explorer with the 6 cyl twin turbo and now have a 2021 explorer with the 3.3 naturally asperated eng with the 10 speed trans i think its actually quicker

Just bought the top optioned 2018 Sport model last week. First American car since 1994 (jeep). Been buying subaru's and acura's up till this point, but I was seduced by the horsepower. Anyway, can report after one week it's still going strong. Who says American cars don't last!! I haven't really opened it up yet as the manual says keep the revs low for the first 1000 miles. I'm only up to 500 so it's torture. Good review!

Look at the vibration on your camera! Nice review Drew! Very nice quad tips as well. I love SONY when I was in Japan growing up I was obsessed about them but too expensive for the kid back then 😝 Portable CD player was like $500.00 but lot cheaper than the whole stereo system for like $1,500 to close to $3,000 my brother had which was Kenwood. A CD album was like $38.00 a piece!! And was so thick!! Technology is just insane nowadays if you think about it.... anyways thanks for sharing!! Keep staying gold my friend 😆

Not that impressive. With the right mods, my 99 suburban gets just about the same mileage. The 4wd is true 4wd. Primary rear wheel drive for a true gear head. After market dual exhaust sounds way better and it’s got 5.7 L Vortec V8. Ford exploder is great for idiots that want to waste their $.

I would love to get a Ford Explorer as my next vehicle. But since my budget is low i would have to get a used one. My Grandfather had one for many years and it was a great vehicle, and eventually sold it to my uncle. The vehicle is up to 150,000 miles and is still running strong to to this day. With proper care and no abuse, this vehicle can last for many years.

I hate the 2020 Explorer with its poorly setup multi screen. Looks like somebody said "Let's add a tablet screen," out of the blue. I just want to slap it off. Also, the sloping roof looks plain stupid with it's loss of space for the third row. The Explorer is not a sports vehicle for crying out loud. The folks at Ford didn't think this one through. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

@@BigPun1997 My Taurus was a older model. 1998. Back in 2005 the transmission went out. I've never had a newer ford model. But I assume a new one would be ok for awhile. My Taurus was 2 years old when it started acting up. It was more than the transmission with that though. Everything was junk. By 6 years old most of the major parts were fixed already. And it had rust starting already. It was a completely different car from the explorer though so I can't judge it off a Taurus. Ford could of improved quality.
