After the trip to the dealer, they reprogrammed the system for the OEM brake controller and everything works perfectly. Took them 10 minutes (although they charged for 30 minutes). This is a great money saver for any DIYer.

Fun fact if yours came with a reciever and you want to upgrade to a higher weight you have to buy the bumper mount for a truck with no hitch. The stock hitch is also your bumper cover holder. Found out the hard way i now have no bumper for a couple weeks

Does the truck have a trailer tow module? Did you add a brake controller? I have a 2020 XLT without the tow package. I don’t know if I can add the OEM brake controller or if I have to use an aftermarket controller. I appreciate any help

This one didn't have the factory tow package, but you can add either an aftermarket or OEM. The big thing is you may have to take it to the dealer to be programmed.

Hey do you have a link for wire harness
@RoadandReel2 жыл бұрын
No problem. I updated the description for the other links. Here's the wiring harness used: amzn.to/3mKC7NJ There are other harnesses depending on what you want to do, but just enter your vehicle into the website and it will tell you if it fits. I like that this one plugged right in and allowed me to mount the 7 pin wherever I wanted and also kept the 4pin option.

Great Video I just bought the Curt Hitch and a Curt Dual output harness for my 2020 F150. My truck doesn't have a break controller, will Ford still need to reprogram the computer or is it just plug and play? Thanks for posting your video, very helpful!
@RoadandReel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks and congrats on the new hitch. I know in California it has to go to a Ford licensed facility or to the dealer to be programmed. You can call around and some places might be able to do it, but they are actually activating part of the programming which could be a warranty issue if not done by a licensed technician.

I have a 2018 F150 and went to buy the factory brake controller. I bought one off amazon and the gain adjustment wouldn’t work (sent it back). I checked with Ford parts and they told me the vin doesn’t allow the addition of the factory brake controller. I guess I have to install an aftermarket brake controller.

My used 2019 f150 already has a 4 pin connector installed I guess it used to have a hutch receiver prior to me, but anyway it doesn't have a receiver not so I'm installing one. Also I'm installing the 7 pin harness do I still need to get it programmed since it has a 4 pin already installed?
@RoadandReel3 жыл бұрын
You can always check it with a test light first and see if it's connected. You may be good to go. Does it have a trailer brake controller already? If it does, then it will definitely be programmed from the factory.

What tool did you use to fish the bolts through
@RoadandReel Жыл бұрын
It came with a coiled piece of metal that the bolt screwed into and then you would pull that through the holes. It was like a really long wire with a coiled end.
@420SuperPurp Жыл бұрын

@@420SuperPurp shouldn't be any additional wiring, but a fuse may be required in the box under the hood. You can check to see if you have the fuse. You'll have to read the diagram to see which slot, but if you have the fuse then you shouldn't need it reprogrammed.

Is the harness required? Or is the 4 pin fine for regular trailers
@RoadandReel3 жыл бұрын
4 pin harnesses are fine for any trailer without trailer brakes. If you're in California I believe all trailers over 1,000 lbs are required to have trailer brakes. Check your DOT regulations.
