Don't forget to crack the fill plug BEFORE you take the diff covers off if you're reusing the stock cover. You'll be up shit creek if you drain your oil and can't refill it due to a corroded fill plug.

This happened to me on a 20 year old Illinois blazer. Couldn’t break the fill plug loose, ended up stripping the square peg. Had to fill it through the vent tube. Was thinking about making my own hole on the cover.

I use the same cover but I chose to use the factory gasket. In my experience they are great. Never deal with leaks from them. As long as they don’t get damaged.

I have a 21 f150 with about 40K miles on it. I just did my transfer case fluid change, which i barely use, and it was super dark. (ford wanted 400 dollars for it, i did it for 30 dollars including the pump) I was planning on doing my rear and front diff's and this video is excellent. I am a big fan of the gasket on my model vs the silicone on the earlier models. no need to wait for the gasket to dry. I will be going back with the stock cover until banks makes one for the f150 tho.

Just had both diffs checked at 130k. Oil still ok so Ford's 150k is spot on. The transfer case needed new fluid tho. It was really dark. I'm surprised you didn't do your transfer case. My F150 is stock....

Oil level may be OK but you have no idea of the viscosity, silicon or particulate contamination levels, water contamination, additive conditions, friction modifier condition (if applicable), evidence of improper top ups (wrong lube), or other elemental contamination whether ferrous or non-ferrous. I first change it out between 20K and 30K when new after break in. Yes, I have easy access to an oil analysis lab.

Did my 19 350 Super Duty diesel at 42K and replaced with BANKS and used Amsoil 75W-140. Very happy! Also replaced front differential with PPE diff and used Amsoil again of 80W90. Really like the collapsible bags to get all the oil out. Great video and service tips. Thanks! 🇺🇸

reminds me of my boss on my first job bought a heavy-duty pickup for hauling supplies and snowplowing his driveway. so he had garage change rear diff and they forgot to put plug in or tighten it so his truck sprayed all the oil out as he drove on 3 lane highway till rear seized up right in middle of road he tried to move over but truck stopped between two lanes blocking both and it could not be moved or pushed off the road quite a traffic mess that caused till tow truck got him off the road.

Thanks for your video.I ended up buying one exact differential cover and installed in my 2019 F150 The only thing I want to add is the oil level when you fill it back up it’s not at half glass sighting . I filled it up to half as you suggested and then I opened the original fill plug and put my finger inside the hole and I cannot touch the oil in the differential.I ended up adding a little bit more oil where now it’s 3 quarters full on glass sighting

changed mines at 125k for first time in my 2013 5.0. Fluid was dirty but not black. Gears looked good. No scarring or marring of gears and teeth on gears were perfect. Measured almost exactly 3.1 quarts drained and put same back in of Motorcraft gear oil. Did not use permatex green but a Felpro gasket from Advanced Auto and no leaks after several miles of driving. Very easy process so do not be intimidated.

Gale Banks will inform you as to why the factory diff cover is the best. He wanted to sell his own so he tested them. It has to do with the fluid getting slung correctly.

I replaced my super 8.8 with B&M differential cover. Same awesome features your replacement has. I also used the lube locker gasket. However, I use nothing but Amsoil products, so I went with the severe gear lube.

Ya me too, I changed my tranny fluid after I bought a pump for $90,00 and sucked it out. Used Utube to show the process. Tranny fluid had grey particles in it. Change tranny fluid and filter, immediately the shifting was smoother with no hard interruptions some times.

I've experienced a few diffs that take some time for the axel tubes to fill with oil, typically i like to fill them up, put the plug in and walk away for 5 mins, then come and fill it up again until its full, repeat until no more oil is dripping back out (stock fill plug). Great video!

My mom's boyfriend put 80w90 in his 9.75 that called for 75w140...locked that bitch up...starved pinion bearing. He paid me 750 to swap in a junkyard axle so whatever but I would always use exactly what it calls for! Side note it was a 1999 truck and it had a metal tag on one of the diff cover bolts that clearly said 75w140 ONLY.

I did mine at 30000 and then again at 60000 along with the front Diff fluid I do have magnet in mine. Wish Dorman would come out with a reasonable Rear diff cover for the 8.8 12 bolt over 300 dollars for a rear diff cover just to get a drain is more then I am willing to pay. Try a biscuit on a angle die grinder on the machine service cleans up like brand new.

Mag Hytec has been on the market for years and is/was a top seller. I've seen a few videos showing the oil flow to bearings not being as consistent. Just check and change your fluid often. It's cheap and easy insurance.

You could clean the plug up a bit and put on some Teflon pipe tape. I wouldn't use anything silicone. A small amount of blue loctite maybe but Teflon tape is what I would recommend.

Lube locker is the way to go, I broke off one of the bottom aftermarket diff bolts and it hasnt leaked in 3 years.

I zip tied that line to the hardline above the diff. I might source some longer studs. These lines mount differently on almost every vehicle no matter which rear end you have. I assume that's why most companies don't include new studs, just new regular hardware. I wouldn't recommend trying to reuse the three factory studs. If you torque them down I feel it will strip the threads in the housing.

I do all rear diff and transfer case at 40k EXCEPT not the front diff. Would it be an issue to take it to 60k or 75k if you rarely if ever use the 4WD ?? Literally my 4WD has maybe 10 miles on it maximum ! My F150 is not an AWD.

You can change the fluid at any mileage you choose. The point is to get it done early. I will have changed mine at least 3 times by the time 150K rolls around. Your truck could have a 9.75 or an 8.8 diff. I have a link to both types in the description. You'll need to figure out which one you have.

If you read their Disclosure, It "WILL VOID" your Factory Warranty??? (Hence, the Stand Off Bolts for the Brake Line Routing), Seem's rather Stupid to me that you can buy something to "Improve" upon the Look's AND The Function (Like Gayle Bank's) Unit, and it VOIDS your Warranty???? STUPID. Nice Piece, But a No Go for me. Sorry.

big mistake. aluminum takes about 31 foot pound , not 35 for steel covers

40k is very early unless you tow a lot but no way should anyone go over 100k no matter how easy they drive.

I tow quite a bit and the truck is supercharged so I figured that warranted a very early fluid change. I agree you could go a little longer. Every 50 to 60k sounds like a nice sweet spot.

All the maintenance that we do nowadays is BS back in the day my dad‘s there they do nothing on a rear end the coolant transmission fluid brake fluid all that bullshit. All they did is change your oil and the car ran forever now all of a sudden every mile hour this mile this mile you gotta change this this this bullshit, it falls to the ground and buy new one

Well everything’s made in China and the replacement parts are junk, plus the manufacturer wants to sell trucks. I hate problems and I’m happy to over maintain all my toys.
