In response to numerous questions regarding the oil/fuel mixing situation, I asked Honda for a comment. Polish Honda branch replied there is a recall on the US market to fix the issue. Apparently it concerns only US cars, and situations in which cars are driven on short distances in very cold weather (like -20 degrees C). Filmed with Panasonic Lumix GH4: amzn.to/2CEhUDw and DJI Phantom4: amzn.to/2CDPidz Edited on MacBook Pro: amzn.to/2EMKa9E And my sunglasses, because some of you are asking Ray-Ban Justin: amzn.to/2CG49nI (The above are affliliate links. If you buy products through them I get a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks!)

Very accurate review. Honda has become very stubborn as a company and does not sweat the details as in the past from a design/functionality standpoint. Hyundai and Kia are constantly improving and are better at getting the basics right. They are doing very well in Europe, skewing to the younger consumer, and will do well. Honda? They seem more of a hit / miss type of company these days and resting on their laurels. Thank you for @9:30-10:30. Well said and very entertaining. Good weekend Marek

Which age group is the current Civic aimed at? I doubt whether it is at the older generation. The CR-V? Maybe nobody? Not with only petrol engines, a CVT and hideous brown wood in the cabin. The lovely layered instruments on the Mk4 has been replaced with toy town instruments in a cabin otherwise attractive to mainly eighty year old people. Big disappointment. The long established salesman at my Honda dealer has left the job because most of his sales were of diesel CR-V's and he knows that in this rural country area he could only retain a small fraction of his customers with the Mk5 petrol-only model with CVT transmission option. Land Rover offer six different engines for the new Evoque and not many less for the Discovery Sport, so Honda CR-V Mk5 is probably destined to be a very rare sight on UK roads, unlike its predecessors.

@@hedydd2 The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe competes with the CRV and this redesign is being well received. Hyundai / Kia hired head designers who worked for Audi and BMW. They have introduced German styling language into their products while still remaining different. Honda / Acura is very stubborn and relies on design team that is letting the brand down. Toyota has some of the same design challenges. They say culture influences the design but some of the design trends coming out of Japan are very 'unique'.
@hedydd2
@hedydd2 5 жыл бұрын
Anthony C Brown Yes, I agree that Toyota has also lost its way with both design and engineering. Most rivals do these better and have caught up and in some cases overtaken them in quality of product and value. Honda used to be famous for innovative engineering and exceptional engines. What’s happened to them these last 20 years to become just another builder of vehicles that are unexceptional in every way?

I love the Tacoma inspired styling for the US version. We're yet to see the new RAV4 in European showrooms. Euro-spec RAV4 will have a slightly different fascia, not as cool looking as the US model. As far as the 4th gen RAV4 is concerned it's adequate, but if I were to choose 4 gen RAV4 or 5 gen CR-V, I'd go with the latter.

UK model is made in Japan. The same model is made in Canada, from where we in the UK initially expected ‘our’ model to be built. Where are European mainland left hand drive models made? Must mention that my Honda dealer’s excellent salesman saw the model mix available with this model and decided that since 80% of his sales were diesel CR-V with only 5% petrol and the remainder being mainly Civics, that his sales and therefore his income would take a serious dive in the coming year or two, so he put his notice in and moved on. His last day was the day before the dealer launch on the Mk5

Marek, I love your videos and your take on this (and most other) car(s). Wow, the Honda premium in Poland is huge! It looks like you tested an LX or maybe EX (no leather) model (which is why the screen bezel is so large- higher trim model has larger screen to fill the space) which you can find at well under USD$30,000 here in the states. At 36,000 euro as-tested, you're paying USD$5,000 to $10,000 more than in the states. Ouch! Here they are manufactured domestically in Ohio. I wonder where yours is built? I disagree with you regarding styling. All Japanese designs have overly busy front and rear ends; that's just their design ethos and has been forever so I just sort of embrace it. I find the overall lines, shapes and proportions of this model to be quite handsome and certainly far superior to the Toyota RAV4. I'm just under 190cm tall and seating is very comfortable once you accept the high seating position instead of demanding a lower, sportscar-like, slammed on the floor with legs-out position; I like to sit in a chair, unless I'm driving the Porsche. I prefer the "trim package" business model over the "pick any individual options you want" because I believe it keeps quality up and prices down because manufacturing is simplified. Keep up the excellent, excellent reviews and thanks.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks!These are German prices. In Poland without VAT and excise duty base model would cost slightly less than bottom 24350 USD CR-V. This car has second lowest out of four trims available. European CR-Vs are made in Swindon, UK.
@hedydd2
@hedydd2 5 жыл бұрын
@@MarekDrives Sorry Marek, not the Mk5. For some reason European ones are now imported from either Canada or Thailand. I asked and was told Japan, but I'm not sure the CR-V is actually built in Japan. The British factory is now almost exclusively building Civic hatchbacks. So a high-cost country is not building the premium CR-V any longer but builds the fleet discounted low margin medium hatchback instead. Swindon UK also make the twin turbo 1.6 Diesel engine, which is no longer available in the CRV and which is becoming less popular in the Civic, which is acceptably economical with a petrol engine anyhow. So that signals the end of Diesel engine production at Swindon and in my personal opinion, the end of Honda's manufacturing anything at Swindon, UK, quite soon. The Civic never kept them particularly busy and I doubt very much that the current Civic will sell much better, even though the number of countries they export to has increased greatly. All versions of Civic other than the hatchback are manufactured outside the UK.

I fully understand it takes a moment to get used with this new styling trend from Honda. But on the other side, being a car reviewer, personal tastes should take less place in the videos. I don't find this car ugly, and same for the Civic sedan, . Its just a matter of giving up the 'standard' tastes and evolve. On the other side, the Civic coupé is indeed a bit too much, while the new Type R is indeed way too much (especially the rear spoiler). Speaking of looks, I'm having a hard time with the new Maxima (looks good in pictures but in real life its different) and the rear of the Toyota Prime makes me angry for some reason.

I have had a manual transmission EX [top of the UK range] 2.2 diesel 4th generation. I continue to own a facelifted 1.6 twin-turbo 9 speed automatic diesel. They are great and the performance and economy plus reliability makes a very acceptable package. However, the fifth generation is available as a petrol only with a nasty CVT automatic. Forget it! Even before you consider the nasty digital dash and the fake wood trim, the drivetrain rules it out completely for me. As a family we are already considering what will replace it. It certainly will not be a Honda, so maybe Hyundai, Toyota's imminent new RAV-4 or the Land Rover Discovery Sport. If and when LR sort out the Ingenium diesel issues in the Disco Sport, that might be the one.

Honda designers, and Japanese designers for that matter, smoke too much of something, their quirky designs were fine right up to the previous Civic, since then they took a turn from "modern, different and future-looking" to something weird and ugly. Right now for me the only acceptable offer coming from Asia is Mazda, but their infotainment system for me is a deal-breaker. If Mazda would catch up on that department they could compete in much better conditions against the Germans, at least they'd earn a client in me. But Honda or Toyota they'd have to make a 180º turn to win me.

@@MarekDrives Dear Marek, you have 2 full size suitcases, 2 carry on bags, a pack of water and - as far as I can remember - some other stuff. If it's 3/4 full after that, in my humble opinion, it is a good thing. I love the intelligence and delivery of your reviews, and while I'm impressed by first-growth forests and not fast cars, I guess, at some point, i'll need to buy a newer carbon-belching machine if only to reduce my contribution to climate change, so I watch your work with enthusiasm. "As a woman", it occurs to me that you might solve this vehicle's steering wheel comfort issue by adjusting the backrest of the seat? The torque talk was insightful but I'm afraid that tweak still does not convince me to give up the total control of a manual drive.

This car is simply disappointing. I found 2 big issues, one of which is a deal breaker. 1. The armrest doesn't extend far enough forward. And i have the same problem with the driving position that you have. 2. The armrest is just bad. Now you might think this is the same as number one. But no. It's flimsy. It moves side to side, up and down and makes creaking noises while doing so. Simply placing your arm on it makes a noise. Unacceptable at any price point, absolute joke at this price point. And you would put your arm on it because it's a freakin' armrest. And it's not just one of them. I test drove one and it had this, so I went to the showroom where they had 3 of them next to each other all in different trims. ALL of them have this. Deal breaker. So that's a no go. Waiting for the new Rav 4 and hoping it won't suck.
