Thanks so much Ed!!! That is exactly what I needed to see. My trailer lights stopped working and I couldn’t find the fuses beside the spare tire jack until I watched this. Kudos to you good Sir!

Hey Bro! Just watched your video and it was hands down the best tutorial for the wiring harness on a Honda Pilot! I have a 2016 and all of the instructions were spot on. Thanks for sharing and hope to see additional Honda Pilot tutorials in the future.

I just want to say THANK YOU!! I am so not mechanically inclined and because of you I installed all this myself. Total about 2-3 hours but if you are at all mechanical you can much less. Dealer and local hitch guy wanted 11-1200 for all. I purchased for under $500. Thanks again.

Thank you! Watched these 2x and they really helped. Wouldn't have gotten the wiring done without it. 2016 Pilot EX was slightly different, re- external wiring routing and panel hardware, but close enough to what you showed here.

Excellent video. Both this video and the installation of the hitch itself was extremely helpful. You made the job easy. Thank you! I wanted to mention (just in case anyone out there does the same) that I mistakenly installed the ground screw when attaching the first bracket. I then used the black lock washer hex head screw for the ground because I didn’t think it would matter. It did. System was not grounded sufficiently and it did not work correctly. I switched the two screws and everything worked perfectly. Thank you again!

Gotta say, THANK YOU for these videos. Just bought a 2020 and going to tackle many of these things this weekend. I'm also adding the hands-free hatch sensors at the same time - that requires me to pull the rear inner trim panel in order to add a switch....in some ways that might make adding the trailer wiring easier, as it should eliminate some of the "working blind" issues.

Hi There. Thank you for the videos. Looked at the Hitch installation also, really nice. Do you have the part numbers you ordered? I have the 2021 Pilot which use the same parts and I would like to get the bumper adapter you purchased to give it the cleaner look. Thanks.

I don’t have the part numbers handy anymore but I can say the bumper cover comes with the hitch if purchased from Honda. Hope this helps

Did the harness today. Your video helped big time. Showing where everything went made it much easier. Going to have Honda do the atf cooler though thats beyond my skill set. Thanks for videos.
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim. The cooler wasn’t as hard as it looked. Once you pull the panels down from the back you can snake it in as long as you have an assistant. Probably the hardest thing was installing the extension tubes. But that only really required patience. Good luck!

Great video watch as I worked. Pausing multiple times . two things I have to add, on the first bracket install - I used a Flathead screwdriver to hold in place (nice little slot beside the screw) on the 2nd bracket found the screw hole panted over. so just a bit of staring to figure that out. Again outstanding video - Next is the trans-cooler video.

Followed these instructions for my 2017 Pilot and worked the same. Thanks Eddie! Well done. I did notice that my OEM kit had an additional connector 6-8? prong connector to one of the harnesses that was attached to a single brown wire. Never used it for anything; hope that was OK??? Haven't had it connected to a trailer yet. Guess that will be the test.

Did you print one? If so, where did you find the STL file? We have a printer, but I don't want to take the time to design a cover

My harness came with an extra separate brake controller cable - how is that used? Does one need to wire it specifically for the brake controller chosen?
@eddiesspeedgarage4 жыл бұрын
There is a place in the drives foot area that that would plug into if you were going to use a trailer brake controller.

Is this all I need for the breaking? Those aftermarket controllers sort of look ugly to stick below the steering wheel so wondering if any of that stuff will be required or not.

What about the trailer brake controller wiring adapter that came in the OEM kit too?

It’s an adapter that will wire to your choice of trailer bake module and plug into the Honda harness

Thanks for the video! I'm considering doing this myself instead of having the dealer do it. Is there a reason you didn't install the grommet around the wiring harness where it enters the vehicle? From the installation manual that Honda provides the grommet needs to be installed to keep the vehicle compartment water tight.
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
voip-ninja the grommet is installed it’s preplaced on the wiring harness. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

excellent video. is the 7 pin connector pretty standard? the connector from my boat trailer is a 4 pin flat one? thanks
@jasoncoleman29404 жыл бұрын
It's standard for controlling a trailer with brakes. However, if you only have a 4 pin connector, you can get an adapter for about $5-10.

Eddie, great video, very well done. Did my 2019. One comment and one question. I wasn't able to secure the upper connector. Found the hole, but it didn't see to want to pop in. Figured no biggie. The question, my kit contained foil backed tape, small piece maybe 2"x 4" if that big, any idea where that goes?

Great how to DIY video. shoul have told me to disconnect the negative at the beginning of this video 😬

Not cutting or splicing any wires I guess if you want to take the extra step that’s ok too
@jakewhosails95365 жыл бұрын
Great videos! One question for you, concerning the 14 pin module that comes with the car. You said that it's taped on itself. How did you free it to allow it to come down through the hatch cover? Appreciate it!
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
Jake Who Sails it took a lot of patients and hopefully you have small hands. I actually used a sharp blade very carefully to get an opening that I could separate. Still wasn’t easy.
@jeffdesanty79285 жыл бұрын
I popped a portion of the rear panel off (top left corner as you face it) which opened it up to get to the taped section. You have to take the cap off of the upper utility hook and unbolt it too. And then with a utility knife cut the tape.
@hobbyfamilyfun3654 жыл бұрын
Jeff D is correct. If you disconnect a bit of the left side panel it will save you a bit of frustration; only a few extra clips/screws to undo. Watch a video by eTrailer to see how that is done if you get stuck; but they don't install OEM so don't watch it for the entire install.
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
No problem Allen. Don’t want to do that more than once!
@adamh90755 жыл бұрын
For the wiring kit you got was that part number 08L91-TG7-100? I've also seen 08L91-TG7-101 online but can't tell the difference. It is a little over $150 - does that come with everything you mentioned in the video? Also did you put a 3rd party brake controller on your Pilot?
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
Adam H I honestly don’t remember the part number. I got it directly from Honda. It does come with a harness for trailer braking but I didn’t use that because I never plan on carrying a camper or anything big enough for brakes on the trailers.
@Thebrianbar5 жыл бұрын
Eddie, Great video! I had the wiring harness and hitch installed at the dealer. They left me with a brake harness that was not installed, and I did not see you install it. I plan on pulling a camper with trailer brakes. I assume I need the brake harness installed, is that something that I can do? Do I need a brake controller? Thanks! again great video's!
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
Brian Barnes it did come with a pigtail for the brake controller. I never installed it because I never planned to pull anything that big. I would advise you to install one if that’s your plan.
@eddiesspeedgarage5 жыл бұрын
Brian Barnes I’m going to make a huge assumption here. I have a feeling there is a connection under the dash on the drivers side to accept the pigtail. You will need the actual brake controller though. Ive never done this before so I am absolutely guessing but it is educated if that helps.
@Thebrianbar5 жыл бұрын
Eddie’sspeedgarage there was a harness already installed. I just bought a Teckonsha controller and a wiring harness specific for my vehicle and brake controller. Easiest install I have ever did. To clicks of a wire harness, two screws to mount controller, and some electrical tape to clean up the install. Works perfectly.
