2019 Honda Pilot rear VTM4 fluid change.

I did this past weekend after watching this. The fluid is only available at Honda dealers. $10 a quart. You will need a 20mm and 18mm crush gasket. The larger is for the fill plug and smaller for the drain. Used a similar pump too.

I thought the VTM4 drivetrain needed the VTM4 fluid. I had read the Dual pump stuff was for older vehicles and the VTM4 was what I should get?

I've seen videos on YT that people have bought Honda brand fluid that actually says "VTM4 Differential Fluid". I think I need to get that one.

@@eddiesspeedgarage I know this comment is a year + old but I heard the initial rear diff fluid is a break in fluid rated at a much shorter mileage but after the first change it would be like 30k between changes do you find this to be the case?

@@AndrewJamison79 The factory installed fluid is not "Break In Fluid". It is the same fluid that the dealer sells. The first change is at 15k because the car is new and everything is breaking in. This is why I do my first engine oil and filter change at 3k and then every 5k. Yes you can extend the rear diff fluid change out to 20k but it all depends on how you drive, stop and go or highway or if you pull a trailer. I can tell you that Honda does not use "Break In" oils or fluids of any kind

I have a 2016 and a 2004 honda pilot , on I never have change the differential fluid, i check and it looks fine the 04 has 240,000 you must do alot of towing.

I suggest you change both the differential and transfer case fluids on both cars if they are 4WD.

Yes you would be lucky if there wasn’t a leak if you don’t change them

Yes, they are called "Crush Washers" and are made out of Aluminum. It is not worth the risk to re-use them and have a leak that will destroy your rear diff.

you have VTM-4 on your listing, it should be Dual pump fluid 2, VTM-4 will wreck your drive...

Air bleeding step is missing. After filling up to the level you leave fill plug loose and start engine for 1 minute in Park. After 1 mnute stop the engine and repeat (fill to the level, it will take a little bit more fluid etc.) Then you are done.

@@CommieHunter7 The pump is electric. The service manual calls for bleeding the rear diff. 1. Remove the filler plug (A) and the sealing washer (B). 2. Remove the drain plug (C) and the sealing washer (D), then drain the rear differential fluid. 3. Remove the metal particles from the magnetic surface of the drain plug. 4. Install the drain plug with a new sealing washer. 5. Refill the rear differential with rear differential fluid to the proper level (E). Fluid Capacity: 1.82 L (1.92 US qt) at fluid change 2.33 L (2.46 US qt) at overhaul Recommended fluid: Honda DPSF­II 6. Loosely install the filler plug with the used sealing washer. 7. Do the rear differential fluid air bleeding. Start the engine. Shift the transmission to P position/mode. Wait for 1 minute. 8. Turn the engine off. 9. Remove the filler plug and the sealing washer. 10. Refill the rear differential with rear differential fluid to the proper level. 11. Install the filler plug with a new sealing washer

The fluid may be fine, but in the beginning there is a lot of metal wear. An early fluid change is to get the bits of metal out so they don't damage the diff.
