My GOD i have just been educated! THANKS I NEEDED THIS! I bought a car with no CD player and was lost on how to play my favorite songs now. Hehe now i know. I was living in the 2000's for a bit too long.

I'm glad to be of service. It took me a while to get off CDs. Then I started burning MP3s to CDs and it took me a while to get off that. Finally I went to thumb drives and was very happy with the amount of songs I could play off them. I guess the next step is to just put all the music on my phone and run it off that.

Good Video.😀 I have formatted USB flashdrives, before. 😀 The USB port with 1.0 A is for USB flash drives. The USB port with 1.5 A is for Connecting the phone to launch the Android Connect. / charging your phone. I just got a 2021 CR-V AWD, Yesterday and the USB Flashdrive for music that I used in my now ex-2014 Jeep Latitude worked fine at 64GB, but not in the CR-V, since it was using exFAT and not FAT32. So, I will go and get a Sandisk that will play music using the FAT32 to cooperate with the CR-V. 😀

I’ve tried every Bluetooth connection for my iPod Classic!! It’s a Late 2009 160gb, still works, but trying to connect it to my ford Expedition!!🤦🏻‍♂️omg! What a headache. Picked up a USB thumb drive, formatted it to ExFat, moved my music files by dragging it over, and connected it to my truck, and bam 💥!! I can use and play all my music, still get calls, and I have the Apple car play!! It really was very simple to move the music to the usb. No cables or anything, it just made it really simple👍🏼👍🏼

2019 Insight. I bought some USB drives when I first bought the car, moved a lot of MP3s to the drives from my old computer and they played without a hitch. Recently purchased 5 brand new TDs (same make, model, size and formatting) to move some more music from CDs (all the music from the CDs is in MP3 format.) But the new TDs are not compatible and are not recognized on the car stereo. The original TDs that worked are formatted at EXFat32, USB 3.1, 64gb. AS are the new TD. However, the new TD won't work in the cars' stereo. Music burned to the new TDs will play on the on the computer and on my laptop. But for some arcane reason, the new TDs are not recognized on the car stereo. Tried reformatting the new TDs, in both NTFS and EXFat32 (only options available. FAT32 is not available in Win10) and it still doesn't work. Very frustrated.

That is odd if not unexpected. Cars, especially Hondas (IMHO), seem to be VERY touchy about formatting and song types. I wonder if the new drives might be usb 3.0 and for some reason might be acting weird because of it. I know, it shouldn't, but you do own a Honda!

That depends on the head unit. You need to change the radio itself so you have a screen so you can choose where on the timeline of the song you want to skip to. Android head units can be found relatively cheap online. You can research them on you tube if you like. I don't know of any way to scan or choose a position in a song on a thumb drive without a graphical interface.

Can you put music on the flashdrive using Windows Media Player and "sync" the music (you want) to the flashdrive or does it only work by "click and drag" a copy of the file method? Also, during play back in the car, can you play the songs randomly in a set or does it just play a folder in the order it's listed?
@verdier4006
@verdier4006 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know. If it writes the music on the drive as standard files I can't see why it wouldn't work. As long as there aren't any crazy file path names or strange codecs being used I figure it should work.
@verdier4006
@verdier4006 2 жыл бұрын
Missed the second part of your question. I believe if you hit the random button it switches between random in the file path your current song playing is in and random based on all the folders you have. Either way it's purely random and doesn't remove files from the random list as played so you will get songs repeating at times. This is one feature the Ford random play had that the Honda doesn't that I miss. The Ford would remove songs from the random list as they played so all the songs would eventually play if you played the list long enough.

Been using a 64GB in NTFS format for 2020 Kona which works fine but now using on a 2023 Tucson it plays fine but the artwork of say offspring has Adele artwork in and blink 182 but weirdly others are fine? Is it because it’s not scanned correctly as VLC media player used to do this before it got update patches all over.
@verdier4006
@verdier4006 11 ай бұрын
Not really sure about this. I personally don't use VLC but it could be some sort of corruption in the headers of some of the files or an overly sensitive or buggy software in the new car's software. You could just wipe the drive and reinstall the music before putting it back in and see if the last car left a cataloging file which the new car is trying to read but doesn't fully understand. Manufacturer's car stereo software are notorious for being buggy and non standards compliant.

The system doesn't play videos unfortunately. You can try downloading an App called 'Carstream' (not on any app store, you'll have to search the internet for it) This makes it possible to play some videos (KZbin etc) on your car without jailbreaking your phone.

If you have 100 songs on your FD and I start at song 1 will it shuffle in order till all songs are played like on a cd or do you gotta press start for every song every time thanks in advanced
@verdier4006
@verdier4006 3 ай бұрын
If you turn on shuffle it will randomly play a song but it will not take that song off the list. It's purely random so you may get the same song playing later down the road. Each time you press the shuffle button it switches from play random songs in main root of thumb drive, to play random songs in current folder on thumb drive, to shuffle turned off.

If the mp3's have meta data in their id tags then you need only put all the songs into a single folder, plug the drive into the car, and give the Honda about 30 minutes to an hour and it will automatically make it possible to choose songs via all these parameters. You have to make sure the mp3 tags have all the data needed though. Once in the single folder and after the first time the car reads all the data and saves it into it's memory then you'll be able to choose any of your songs based on any of those categories by hand or even by voice control. Also, the songs will all shuffle together.

Mine plays all the old music I put inside my flash drive, but when I try to put some new music on it, it does not recognize them. I tried formatting it from NTFS to exFAT and FAT32 but it still does not recognize them. What should I do?
@verdier4006
@verdier4006 2 жыл бұрын
When you say it doesn't recognize them do you mean they show up on the list but don't play at all or they never show on the list? Either way always stick with fat32 for formatting. Also keep in mind the songs won't fully show up in all the listings until the tags are read by the system. Try reformatting the stick and only putting on a few of the new songs and see if they play. You also might want to re-encode them with another encoder just in case your computer is using a codec the system doesn't recognize.

2 things here. 1) it can take the car an insane amount of time to catalog all the information on the thumb drive to get that kind of info available for use in the menu system. It once took over an hour for it to catalog 500 songs on a new thumb drive before I could choose by anything other than file name. 2) just in case, check your files on a computer program and make sure they have ID3 tags with info in them. Depending on where you get your music the ID3 tags can be stripped of information.

@verdier4006
@verdier4006 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the 2017 used the older system rather than the newer system I have in my 2019 Honda Insight. You might try reformatting it a few times and only putting a couple of songs on it just for testing. I would also consider buying a different thumb drive just in case of incompatibilities. Also try different speed thumb drives such as USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 specific drives to see if that helps. Also try smaller drives (16gb or smaller) just in case your system has trouble with large pen drives. Last thing try plugging in something different into the socket just in case the USB port is the problem.

The size is way too big. People have tried hard drives on this system and they don't seems to work either. I'm pretty sure you need to stick with fat32 for formatting. Hi Verdier 400!! I have a problem with my 2021 Honda Odyssey USB player. I ripped my Hamilton CDs to my Windows 10 PC. Then copied it to a thumb drive. So far so good. But, when I put the USB in the port and pulled it up, it started playing the songs, but arranged them in alphabetical order instead of the order of the songs on the CD. When I look at the data on the thumb drive, the songs are in the proper order, but the USB player rearranges them alphabetically. Very frustrating! Have you run into this problem or have a solution? I have tried looking at settings, but haven't been able to see anything related to song order, etc. Please, anyone have this problem or a solution? Thanks! ^_^

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I haven't been online for a while. The easiest way to fix this problem for me is to actually number the file such as 01, 02, 03 etc. The system will put them in numerical order after that. Usually!

Be a lamb and tell me something. As you probably know, WAV and WMA files play so much better than MP3 and others. I have played them both in my Acura with the ELS Surround Sound. But some of them won't play. Do you have any reason (as to) why? It's bugging me because the WAV files that do play sound a million times better than the other files. They are more surround sound, to say the least. Thank you for your videos! All of them are so helpful!

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to this. I have had issues with songs encoded or ripped in various formats which play perfectly fine on some cars and not on others. In fact I have a Flac file right now which plays in my Ford and Honda but won't play in a Hyundai. The only fix for these things that I have been able to figure out is the obvious, re-rip or re-encode it again. I know it's not the answer you were hoping for, but, it's been the only sure fire way to get stubborn songs to play in different vehicles. I find the Honda system to be a bit troublesome sometimes on file formats and proper playback.

in my experience the wav and wma files sound better because the files cover a higher bandwidth (not sure of the correct wording here). you will see that most wav files are larger than the mp3 files. usually 30mb vs 3mb

Wav files are not compressed, which is why they sound better. MP3 files are compressed, so can't carry all of the same frequencies of a Wav file.

I have found the best way is to order them on the computer first. Using spaces or putting numbers in front of the files can force the order the way you want. The system on the car can display songs based on different criteria based on meta data in your mp3. Artist, music type, etc. Keep in mind it takes the car a little while to load all this data and write the appropriate file on the USB stick. I have about 200 mp3s on my USB stick and it took the car a good 30 minutes before I could show or search songs by artist, genre, etc. You can use programs like mp3tag to edit information into your mp3s if they are lacking certain meta data. I hope this helps a little.

@verdier4006 Thanks, but it was organized when I wrote the number before the file name, and now, when I added more songs and did the same, it stopped playing in order. I will figure it out. There's a button called route for music. I just have to find it.

So you're saying all the songs play after the first few seconds where they skip? That sounds like an encoding issue or an incompatibility with the codec you're using. Try re-encoding with different software and make sure you're not multitasking on the computer while it's encoding. See if that helps.

* If you're playing from a thumb drive make sure to read up in the manual about size limitation the system will recognize (16gb, 8gb etc..) * Try a different manufacturer of thumb drive just in case there is a strange incompatibility with your brand of thumb drive * Reformat the thumb drive on a windows machine to fat 32. It might be a bad format * Check to make sure the system can read the format of music you ripped (mp3, Flac etc...) * Re-encode a few songs into a different compatible format just in case your ripping software encodes in a way your stereo can't read * Try a different encoding program just in case the program you use encodes in an odd and incompatible way * Stick with only a few songs at a time on the thumb drive to make it faster and easier for the stereo to recognize and catalog in it's memory while testing to find out what formatting works on the stereo. Mainly do this to speed things up and not waste time making a huge catalog of music only to find out your stereo hates the particular formatting of the songs. * Keep the structure of the thumb drive simple. Just put the songs on the main directory rather than making folders with different songs. First you need to find out what your stereo likes before you try getting fancy Try these ideas and see if they work for you.

If you're asking if you can hook up units like iPods or older mp3 type players then the answer is I don't know. I believe if you hook up such devices via standard USB to the car it's possible it might see them as mass storage drivers and will read them similar to how it reads thumb drives. I believe it will be dependent on the brand of the unit, wether it uses proprietary software in it's file organization, and exactly how the unit s catalogs the mp3s on the player..

MP4 is usually used as a container for video files. You won't be able to play them through the thumb drive with the current system software in the car. You can use Android auto and there are programs out there that might play video files. Carstream is an app that might do it but you'll have to search the web for it. It won't be on the app store. If you just want to play the audio from an MP4 video through your thumb drive you can find a converter that will strip the audio from an MP4 and turn it into an MP3. Audacity might have this function. You can just type "MP4 to MP3 converter" in Google and im sure you'll find plenty of free programs that can do it .

Few things to check. Reformat the thumb drive. Try a different brand of drive or different speed (usb 2 not usb 3) or size (16gb or less). Think a smaller size if it happens to be a big one. Try just a few files at first to see if you have a file incompatibility issue. Make sure you are using formats that are good for your radio expl..mp3, flac etc. Try re-encoding a file that didn't play again with new software and try playing that one. One other thing. Does it recognize your drive at all?

I am a little clueless here, can anyone please advise how to get free music downloaded on my computer for me to put onto a flash drive to plug into a sat/nav car radio to play music? Thanks
@verdier4006
@verdier4006 5 ай бұрын
Okay, you'll probably get more info via a Google search but I'll give you some info here. Let's start with legit music like your cd collection. If you own music on CDs and you'd like to play them on your car stereo via a thumb drive or just change them into digital form you need to "rip" them. First you need a cd reader for your computer. You can get these very cheap on Amazon and they hook to your computer via USB port.. Once you get this you can rip your music by putting the disc into the drive and using ripping software. I believe windows has this capability built in but if you find that difficult you can download many programs that are free on the internet. Just type "freeware cd ripping software" in Google search. Be careful some of these programs are actually trialware and you might have to pay later for it. Just read the description closely. When you run these programs they will read the CDs and transfer the tracks to your computer. Most of the time it will give you the option on what format you want to save it as. Choose mp3. This is the most widely supported format and the compression will shrink your music file 10x smaller. Once you've ripped all the songs or CDs you want then you simply plug the USB drive into your computer and drag/drop all your newly created mp3s into the thumb drive. Plug into your car when done and most modern radios will be able to read the files. The non-legit way is to get a BitTorrent program via Google and download music that way. You will have to find a BitTorrent tracker on the internet via Google and search on that tracker for the music you want. You click on the link and it will download via the torrent program. You should continue to share the file after the download is complete since basically your download is coming from many other people sharing and if you don't your what is known as a leecher. I don't recommend this since you're basically stealing music and could get into trouble for this. The last and best way is to use something like Spotify which makes it possible to listen to a lot of music for free or better stuff for a monthly fee. You can personally buy individual songs you like and save them on your thumb drive for play on your car. You can also connect your phone to your "compatible" car and stream music from these services directly through your stereo in the car. Your car needs to be "Apple car play" for iPhones or "Android auto" for Android phones compatible to do this. Hope all this helps .

It can take a while for the car to load all the songs in memory and set them up. They should all show up in alphabetical order at first if they are on the top folder of the thumb drive. I would recommend first reformatting it again as if it were a brand new thumb drive. After that put only one song on it and see if the car reads it. Keep in mind it takes the car some time to catalog the songs on the thumb drive so once you put them on it you will not be able to search or categorize them, only play or list them in the order they are on the drive . I'm not sure the Honda will work with a drive as large as the 128gb. I plan on making a video discussing the use of thumb drives on cars and how to troubleshoot them.
