66 year old child here, but I guess I am mature because I don't want the crackles and pops. Decided to buy one today, your review has convinced me even more that this is the best replacement for the XJ that I have driven for 20 years. I will probably leave the loud exhaust turned off most of the time as well, but can't wait to enjoy the performance. Edit: had it a few weeks now, given it plenty of "Yahoo", mainly when my wife isn't in the passenger seat. She tends to grab the door handle when I give it Yahoo, which is a bit off-putting! As you say it is a proper grin generator, and as for economy I managed 26 mpg on a run of mixed country road and motorway.

What a crazy cat! Always been a big fan of the SVR range. Had the pleasure of pumping the pedal in the F-Type and that was a monster. Despite being the SVR I can imagine it being a sleeper in the stop light drag strip. Would not want anything else to beat off a Porsche Cayenne with. A big thumbs up for the British cat - love it!

I've had the FPace V6 S petrol for 3 years now and every time I get in it and drive it, I absolutely love it. I still get pops and bangs if I floor it in 1st and 2nd gear whilst in Sport and Dynamic which I love unlike some of the elderly residents around town. 😅 Drives and feels very much like a sports car as opposed to a big heavy SUV.

Great review - thanks for sharing. I’ve had this car for nearly 4 months now, and can tell you the following... 1. If you accelerate hard to about 3500-4000rpm and ease off, you get plenty of pops and crackles. It only seems to happen within that band though. Quite easy to do it in manual mode and scare pedestrians. My 4 year old daughter loves it! 2. You can get a faster 0-60mph time if you use the paddles rather than the auto box. Sometimes it wants to start you in second gear for some odd reason. I bought a ‘Dragy’ and managed to get a 3.9 second 0-60 run using the paddles. 3. The MPG is going up gradually as the car runs in. It’s still pretty poor though - but worth it for the smiles. 26-27mpg on motorway runs, 22mpg fast round B roads, and 16-18mpg driving round town in stop start traffic.

Ped, you are a man after my own heart. I have loved the look of the F Pace since I first spied the concept all those years ago. Despite me continually putting this car under my husbands nose I could never get a bite, until now. Finally the sound of that engine, and an overwhelming desire to annoy the raging greenies, has his attention. The SVR just adds to the beauty of this car. Every thing about it appeals to me, even the price noting it comes in cheaper her in Australia than most other performance SUV's. Thanks for dropping this video early. When I put it on hubby said, 'But it's not Saturday morning'. We watched and I finally have a little hope that he has taken note. You may have just made my dreams come to fruition.

Great review and agree 100% with your views. I’m 3500 miles into mine now and have generally got low to mid 20s in mpg. I too was initially a little disappointed by the slightly muted pops & bangs on the overrun - especially having come from a Gen 1 Sport SVR (Gen 2 has the same issue though!) You’re right about the pace though, I’ve already proven it thrashes the current Sport SVR and got plans to pitch it against the Stelvio & GLC63S soon. Give me a shout if you can get hold of either for the day as I’ve got an airfield to use, just need to bring the toys to play with! Keep up the great reviews. 👍

The exhaust not having the crackle and pop for me isn't a negative, where I live (Las Vegas) those exhausts are just a cop magnet. What I will say is a negative is the placement of the power window switches, it's the same issue I have in my XF, they are just to far forward on the doors, take a look at 14:08, you can see how far forward they are...Other than that, love the F Pace.

My guess would be an addition of a PPF (petrol particulate filter). They’ve had them in diesels for a while (appropriately named DPFs) but due to new EU regulation they’ve started adding them to petrol cars. It’s happened to the new MINIs too :( I believe the pops and bangs end up damaging the filter because it’s basically fuel igniting in the exhaust. Sad times.

I’ve just got a 4yr old one, same spec as your review car. For me the noise is spot on, sick of the mostly fake pops and overrun cracks in modern cars. Fair enough on a full bore up or downshift but it’s rather tedious when you’re just pootling through town and every lift of the throttle is POP pop pop! Living and working in the less salubrious parts of West Yorkshire it’s all you hear some nights, poor and poorly mapped VAG products being ragged around popping away until they have that inevitable on final massive terminal pop! Who wants to be associated with that? Like you said in the review, it looks to the uninitiated like any other F Pace, why spoil that with a popping farting exhaust? Those who know will appreciate the V8 burbles as it passes. Getting 26mpg on a steady run, driving to the speed limits, not hypermilling with slipstreaming EVs in the inside lane. Round town and short journeys are as bad as one would imagine, low to mid teens😮

I'm not sure why you dont have the pops but my 2019 f pace, if using the paddles pops like crazy. I have standard exhaust too.

Maybe the new particulate filters dulls the sound. The Porsche 992 does not sound as good as a 991 with the new filters

I wonder if my Canadian delivered SVR will have pops and bangs....or if I’ll need a minor tuning tweak :p

Not sure 🤔

It certainly is a very nice car Peter, externally there’s pretty much nothing I don’t like. Cabin looks extremely well laid out, switches, buttons all within easy reach. Absolutely love the red interior, boot space is excellent. As for the pops, crackles from the exhaust ? I could live with it just as it is but it would have made sense for a remote option for those who want to “play” with the sound. I’m pretty sure it’s down to the emissions regulations and the recently announced excessive noise detector cameras that are going to be introduced in the near future. Would I be in the market for one ? Not right now but I definitely wouldn’t cross it off my list. Thanks for the review and say hi to the pooches. Cheers Geof

Nice produce and quantity lately pedders will see those numbers rise. Agree looks nice but not got the drama of the RR SVR. Although it does beat it at price point which may of been worth mentioning

Yeah, probably should have. So much to pack in. You should see the pile of footage that didn’t make it 😂

Hi Pete, I had a drive in one of these this week and it was awesome. Definitely ordering one later this year. The sound compared to the V6S petrol is in a different league. It ticks all the boxes. I am going to try the Velar SVA first though as this is finished even nicer (note sure it will be as good to drive though!). Do you a drive planned in one. It would be great to see a back to back test.

It’s in mine two. The short list is luxurious finish in the LRV SVA or full on sports car come practical family car the F-Pace SVR.
