2019 Kia e-Niro first drive review

The Kia e-Niro is a five-door small electric SUV which will be competing with the likes of the Hyundai Kona electric, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq and smaller Renault Zoe. It has an impressive range of 282 miles, can comfortably fit four/five adults, is reasonably priced, has plenty of kit, and could sway some reluctant people towards electric motoring. Digital Editor Rachael Hogg went all the way to South Korea to drive Kia’s latest EV.

Remember reading a review about this and they were worried about the general public who usually buy Kia’s having easy accidental access to that acceleration, 7.5 seconds in a geared car isn't ridiculous but a different story when it is always avaliable at any point

I don't really see how it competes with the Zoe. Totally different types of car and Renault dealers give whopping discounts on Zoes making them well over £10K cheaper (even with the battery paid for Zoe). Kona definitely competition and any petrol or diesel small SUV. For me the refinement of electric is well worth paying extra for but it only makes financial sense if you do a lot of miles. If you can charge at home charging time is mostly irrelevant because you just keep it topped up overnight (unless you are travelling over 200 miles in a day on a regular basis - hardly any of us do). I've done 12000 miles in a Zoe now and only charged four times away from home (this would only be twice in the e-Niro). I only spend about £15 per month on electricity! I think the e-Niro and Kona are cars I'd like but still way too expensive for me.

How on earth can you pick up wind noise when inside a car unless you had the camera outside - another presenter not up to the job. The sound should have been redo in the edit - just proof that being able to talk about cars and being skilled enough to edit videos don't always go hand in hand.

As we've explained to several other people in the comments, we weren't able to use our usual cameraman on this shoot, so were limited to what was recorded for us. It's not the presenter's job to manage sound and recording, nor is it their job to edit videos. The presenter did have a radio mic, but the cameraman had somehow recorded the sound on the mic attached to the camera, which yes, well noticed, was outside the car.

@@AutoTraderTV Well if it isn't the presenter's job then who ever does the edit needs to seriously look at themselves as there is plenty can be done to make that sound better. Send me the files and I will happily prove that for you. Generally poor editing regardless of the original footage.

Robert Lloyd compare price and range against Tesla, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and Renault. Price per kWh ~ £469 after grant. Price per range ~ £106 Price per liter of boot ~ £67

Blake, do the math and realize that it's range equals the gas equivalent of 247 mpg! Oh yeah you can charge it from your home and its built on a regular ICE FRAME WITH INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION AND MACPHERSON STRUTS IN THE FRONT WITH A LARGE BATTERY BUILT INTO THE CHASSIS FOR A REAL GOOD LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY FOR A REAL GOOD RIDE AND HANDLING FOR A SUBCOMPACT CROSSOVER HATCHBACK THAT'S WAY BETTER THAN IT'S GAS POWERED COUSIN THE KIA NIRO! I WILL HAVE MINE IN APRIL! CONSUMER REPORTS SAYS THAT IT WILL ACTUALLY COST 75% LESS THAN ITS GAS COUSIN!

Well Blake you're not going to buying oil or gas NOW and you're not gonna have leaks and you are definitely not considering that your gas car has between 360 to 400 moving parts that will wear out to just 26 moving parts on the E-Niro! Also your fuel source is NOW being sold by Arabians who don't share your well being CONCERNS to your power company who is always trying to make your bill cheaper through renewable energy sources and prices are much cheaper than buying oil abd and there will be a 75percent reduction in your MAINTENANCE costs!!!

Ask to test Drive the touring edition with the harmon KARDON soundsystem with a built in preamp and impressive subwoofer! It's worth the extra money for the extras in this eniro comes with preheated or cooled ventilated seating with leather upholstery and a larger 8inch display and a moonroof!
