A little first ride review of the new 2019 KTM 690 Enduro R. 😀
I'm not a bike tester. This is my new bike. All the hype seems to be surrounding the 790 and the 690 Supermoto, so I thought I'd do a quick review and compare the bike to the old 690 Enduro R and the Husqvarna 701.

Excellent review and good choice compared to 790 for your needs. Sounds like it is a considerably improved bike and no matter what anyone says, the 690 is still the only all round bike with 60-70 + bhp out there for serious off road use. Did the TAT in 2015 on one myself, 7350 miles. Totally comfortable and extremely good on fuel.

Nice video. Thanks for your review on the 690, not many useful ones out there. I’ve been to see one at the dealers a couple of times, I find it awkward to get on and off with the bulky rear tank but I guess I will get used to it (and won’t worry once the plastics are scratched up anyway). Some gear reviews and tips would be good as you are riding and using stuff every day. Do you have any recommendations for jacket & trousers? Cheers.

Great review. I've just put down some $ for a 2019 Enduro R . . . should arrive in a few weeks. What size packs are you running there on the Kriega system? How do you rate them? I have some of the older Kriega packs; but they don't harness up as well as this new solution.
@therealphilistein
@therealphilistein 5 жыл бұрын
Tori's Trails I rate them a lot! These are the smallest ones but I have the really big ones too and they sit perfectly if you use the markings for the front grab handle screws to drill and mount the rack loops on the tail and get the Kriega 690/701 heel plates. Best solution I have seen for this bike and typical Kriega quality. 👌🏻

I think they may be moving this platform in the wrong direction. I would personally rather see the bike be made tougher and more reliable than see a quick shifter and traction control. In my view this bike needed a more comfortable seat, a larger fuel capacity and better underbelly protection. Also, the bike needs better gearing/power distribution. All in all still a fine machine. I own the 2018 model and am making the changes I mentioned it needed above.

@@therealphilistein I agree. There is nothing that the 690 will do offroad that a smaller, lighter dual sport bike will not do better, easier and safer. The 690 falls into a unique category. It's not great at anything, just OK. It is too small to be a great street bike and too big to be a great dirtbike. If you lived in an area where you need/want to cover a lot of road miles to get to the trails, this is the perfect bike.

Nice video 👍 that was some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen, I would LOVE to do that ride ... nothing too technical or extreme , just a nice two track with minor terrain challenges and a lots of beautiful landscapes to see . I’m getting conflicting various feedback on this 690 Adventure R , because I’m a bit of a novice rider . Is it really too much bike ? I mean as long a person would respect the machine and ride within your own ability, I think the bike is manageable? There just aren’t many options that compare to this bike as far as it’s on road/ off road capabilities without going to a much heavier ‘ adventure ‘ dedicated bike . Any feedback is appreciated.

@therealphilistein 5 жыл бұрын
JollyBruin 4570 the feedback you’re getting is BULL. Helen started riding two years ago. We got her a CRF250. She got fed up with it in 3 or 4 weeks and has been riding a 690 since. Just take it easy and be sensible. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Ride the Wild Thank you for your positive feedback and prompt reply . I like good sound advice from sensible people who have riding experience. I mean I have ridden a few dirt bikes in my earlier years, and then life comes at ya with no time to do anything but work . So now I’m 55 , actually went and took a Motorcycle rider safety course , bought a KTM 350 EXC-F on a recommendation from a friend. So I rode it a bit and got tuned up in the saddle . I just sold it to free up some cash in anticipation of the 790 Adventure R as I know I want something that has better long distance capabilities and off road manners. But now I have been researching this 690 Enduro R , and it’s sooo much lighter and nimble than the bigger bulkier Adventure class bikes , and I see older guys like me who swear that they can do it all... and I know it can be lowered just a bit ( I’m only 5’8”) so this just seems to be the most versatile and capable bike out there . But yeah it has power wow 😮 I’m very docile rider , just like trail riding and some small adventure riding, I’m not pulling wheelies and jumping whoops or racing , and I’m sure like DRZ 400S could do everything I want , but it won’t do the Highway and longer distances as well I am sure of it . And it doesn’t have the KTM cool factor lol 😎 I’m sensible and would not do anything beyond my abilities. I already know this bike is far more capable than I could ever dream of being , it will without a doubt exceed my expectations and abilities.
@therealphilistein

If you can get a deal it might be worth considering the previous model, it has a mapping switch under the seat that you can set to “soft” and that makes the bike super docile at first. 🙂👍🏻

Great review! Thank you so much! I have a 2018 KTM 690 enduro R and love it! However, at 5, 6" the seat height has been a struggle when I have to stop. How much shorter does the 2019 seem than 2018? I have a 2016 KTM 500 exc for the trails and its height doesn't bother me even though it is a few inches higher than 690. The suspension is much softer on 500 though so I think it settles more. So, I am considering selling the 18 690 for Adventure 790 R, but now this makes me wonder if I should sit on a 2019 Enduro R before I mallke the purchase on 790. Any thoughts would be appreciated. @therealphilistein
@therealphilistein 5 жыл бұрын
That's a fair point, however KTM engineers themselves will tell you they CAN get more horsepower out of a bike, if they don't need to worry about emissions, type approval, etc. - the 690 runs very hot for emissions purposes, so hot in fact that Helen's oil light sometimes comes on in the summer. Fitting a fan switch that kicks in lower in the temperature range is not the same thing as remapping the bike to run cooler, and I promise you won't feel a difference in power. ;)

IRISHROVER no seat height, no ground clearance - my wife can manage and she’s not very tall at all. We both ride 250s on the really technical trails but they don’t let you cover any real distance and need constant servicing. This is the best compromise to get you to further away places and still be light enough to not get you in trouble or stuck anywhere.
